  1. Let me know what you find out about the car, rust situation etc. Will be coming that way in early Dec. with trailer could pick up. Thanks JLP
  2. I would replace the float, I believe it has to be either the needle is not seating or the flaot is heavy or sticking. I would think that if you had too much fuel pressure both carbs would be effected. jlp

You can get new center caps for the Shelby wheels with a Z for the center of the caps if you want to restore them. jlp
  7. Info, the 72 was not galvanized.jlp
  8. Also I am in the process of junking a rusty 73 if you need anything let me know I'll see if it is still usable. jlp
  9. I don't know off the top of my head of any suppliers but you might try tabco. The make replacement parts for common rust areas of vehicles. But due to the age of the Z's it's a shot in the dark. If anyone knows of any other sources they will respond. If not you might try to find a parts car from the west. jlp

I don't know about that, my 1970 was built in 1969, so the production year for the 1970 would have ended much earlier than November of 1970. My 72 was built, I believe, in August of 72 and had a few of the 1973 features due to it being one of the last of the 1972's built. I am relatively sure that a 11/70 is welll beyound the production change over date and would make the car a 71. JLP
  11. No luck yet, any Ideas? JLP

I'm sure that we have an expert or two on this subject. I'm not but from my experience the cut off date for a production of a model year for most manufactures is around July or August. I would bet the Z in question is a 71. My two cents.
  13. I would proceed with caution. In my experience if the floors have had this much repair the rust is not limited to the floors. Take a close look at the overlaps in the sheet metal. Look for distortion of the joint (top panel pushed up between the welds). Look for “thick joints” extra body filler over the lap joint to hide the distortion. The car has a slick paint job, what’s under it? It is hard to tell from photos. I’m just saying this car is suspect at this point with an unclear history. Don’t over rate it.

Zedric, Welcome to the Club! Regards, Jerry Purcell
  15. I agree that all "Z" Owners want to do their "bench racing" on this thread. But remember "When The Green Flag Drops, The Bull $^!# Stops". Anyone who thinks you can't get power out of a L24 is "Z neophyte"LOL
  16. Still looking for a return trip haul! jlp
  17. Doug, I will do some research on that tomorrow and get back to you. Atlanta is out of the way I believe but I will check it out. Thanks JLP
  18. Chris, it would be great to see your car in Daytona! Is your daughter in pre-med at this time. My son John attended a conference in Pheonix this summer. The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. It helped him to make some early decisions concerning specialization, schools etc... JLP
  19. Hi Chris, I am getting excited about the prospects of my 72 being restored. You are right about the "Factory" term. I just didn't want to start that debate again when Mark used the term, as you can see I referenced them as "Nissian program cars". It is nice to hear from you I recently checked out your progress on 00026. Looks great! I hope to make the Daytona event with a great 72 example. It will be tight my youngest son will be starting Medical school next fall so it will be a bussy time for our family. If you hear of any cars needing transported from the west in the next 30 days please let me know. Thanks jlp
  20. The car has not been on the road since 1976, I refreshed the engine (10 over) in the early 80's. Les will be removing the racing 10 qt oil pan and headers and installing a set of Z therapy carbs to put the engine back to stock. I turn over the engine a couple times a month. And yes his total restorations are done as were the Nissan program cars. I just hope to find someone with the need for a car to be transported back to this part of the country to help with the expense of transportation. jlp
  21. It's one of those "if you have to ask you can't afford it!" No, Les and I have worked out a deal which we both can live with after about a year of negotiations. As part of the deal he is going to end up with my 1970 00029 car. I have a lot of the parts for the restoration which I purchased back in the 70's. Like you a new in the box dash, all new carpet and interior parts etc... I have owned the 72 since new. After my wife and I were married it was our first new car so I am looking forward to driving it into retirment and I am confident that Les is the best man for the job!!!
  22. Carol, You might want to talk to Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports. He is located in California. I am getting ready to take my 1972 Z to him for a complete restoration. He is one of the best in the business. You can find their web page just google Classic Datsun Motorsports. Good Luck!
  23. Mark, Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports is going to restore my 1972. I hope to have it complete in time for the Flordia convention fall of 2007. If I can find a return haul I hope to take the car out to Les within the next 30 days or so.
  24. I am transporting my Z, (or having it transported), from Indiana to California for restoration. I am looking for someone needing a car transported, for my return trip, from the west to the mid-west to help off set some of my expenses.
