Chris, just got the rest of your message. VB offers rear bumper ends but not the center section. Does anyone sell the center section? Thanks JLP

Hello Chris, Thanks for the help. I think I've decided to put the 72 back together mild comp and selling (or trading) #29 and trying to find an unmolesed low milage 72 or earlier and keep it stock. Thoughts? JLP

Thanks!!! My local speed shop has suggested a plater, I'll talk to him. Now, I have a new front bumper complete (bumper, guards, rubber). Where can I buy new rubber for the rear bumper. I noticed that VB offers the rear bumper rubber but not for the guards. LMK Thanks again, JLP

I just recieved a rear bumper I purchased on ebay for my 1972 Z. It is not exactly what I expected. I knew it was going to have to be rechromed but I was not expecting the condition of the inside to be as it is. I asked the seller if the inside had any rust and the answer was "the inside shines". Well after the seller wire brushed it and put some kind of clear coat on it, it shines. It is still a good solid straight bumper. Back to my question; is there any prep work I should do or have done on the interior of the bumper prior to the rechrome? I want the bumper to be as new when I get it back. Can someone help me with this, is there an existing thread on this? Thanks! JLP

Mark, are the side marker gaskets you have for sale the ones which fully enclose the back of the light assembly? JLP

That equipment will go or stay with #29. But I would welcome your opinon on the restore of my 1972 Z. I have original race parts from when I club raced #29, such as shorter springs, overdrive mid close 5 speed, Mikuni 44's on comp intake, early minilites, aviad 10qt pan, cooler, 180 LSD 4:11, etc. Would you put any of this on the 1972 post restore or go back stock??? I don't plan on ever getting rid of the 1972 so resale is not an issue.

Years ago my mother had a winter place in St. Pete just over the Tampa Bay bridge, I know your area well. I might get down there this spring or summer, I'll have to come vist the princess. As I get into the restoration of the 72, I will post progress and ask for opinions on stock or mild performance. Like I said I have the parts from the original prep on #29. Then what to do with #29 It has all the "good stuff" Datsun comp coil overs, comp trany, Mikuni 50's with comp intake etc... It's not doing any harm or good sitting in the garage. JLP

James thanks for the welcome. #29 has lived a pampered life, as a race car and sitting for the last 18 years. In some ways I wish it was not so extensively modified. It probably would not be around as is, solid and rust free if it was not in race skin. Thanks again, JLP

Thanks for the warm welcome. My 1972 is #HLS30 093606 its 110 red with white interior. IF you get time tell me about you 72. JLP
  12. Thanks I'll be waiting to hear from you. The plastic is part of the black cover for the retractor mechanism. It is like a sheath for the belt, which holds the belt up next to the seat. If you want I can send a picture of what I am talking about. JLP
  13. I need the complete left side. All three pieces. I have noticed that all that I have looked for have the plastic extension broken off on the retractor side. Thanks JLP

The car had 56,000 on it when I parked it. The rust was not and is not bad, it never got into the frame rails it was mainly around the rear wheel lip. There was some rust in the passagener floorboard from the a/c which I removed after two years. I purchased all new interior including a new dash, rear quarter panels, new floorboard complete, all new exterior emblems, all new rubber seals, new rocker panels, gas tank, rubber boots & grommets etc... I'm glad I purchased the items then, I had a good friend in the parts department at our local dealer. I have recently picked up some small parts on ebay "WOW". I wish I had purchased a few other parts but I'm in good shape for the restoration. I can't make up my mind on going stock or mild comp. I have an extra set of racing springs, a overdrive 5 speed mid close, a small pumpkin 4:11 LSD, orginal set of Minilites, and 44 mikuni's on datsun comp intake. I guess I will decide as the project goes back together. The engine seized from setting so I rebuilt it years ago and went 10 over. I think I will post as I proceed with the restoration maybe some members can guide me to stock or mild. JLP

I'm a new member and thought I might give you a little history of my Z car ownership. I have a 1972 (HLS30 93606) which my wife and I purchased new. It was our first new car. It is 110 red with white interior, I had some rust repaired in the rear quarters in 1975 and decided to park it in 1976 for future restoration. I purchased all parts I felt I might need in the future and have had the car and the parts stored since. My youngest son (16) and I plan to start the total restoration this winter. After autocrossing the 1972 for a couple of seasons I decided to go club racing and in 1976 purchased the 1970 (HLS30 00029) from Jim Cambel in New Mexico. It was race prepaired, I raced it for a couple of years then upgraded it for IMSA once again we campaigned it for a few races and in 1986 parked it. I have attached a couple of photos of it as it sits afer 18 years in my garage. I hope to follow up with more photos of both in the future.
