I have surrendered to the fact that I can not get my “to-do†list complete before putting the Z to bed for the winter. To-do list: 1.have a set of original retractable seat belts restored to as new appearance and safety. 2. get all electrical systems working properly down to the seat belt warning system. 3. fix all electrical gremlins. 4. NOS or gather parts to rebuild an original working antenna. 5. acquire an original spare tire to go on my restored rim. 6. Fix transmission shift lever problem. 7. acquire appropriate NOS shift vinyl shift boot. 8. have set of luggage straps restored. 9. acquire new rear interior tail light panel (original NOS cracked upon installation). 10. acquire or restore a set of interior scuff plates (vinyl covered as apposed to the latter texture painted). 11. have vendor make appropriate replacement sticker for hazard light switch. 12. repair clock. 13. work on alignment and closure of doors, hood and hatch. This is my initial list to perfection. Where I am on the list is as follows: 1. clock is back from being upgraded to quartz movement by Ron at Zclocks (not installed) 2. Zed saver is restoring a set of luggage straps along with new hardware and some proper black chrome screws for the seats they will be shipped back this week. 3. I purchased a parts car for the seat belts (best original set I have seen) sent them to Ssnake Oyl Products for restoration (estimate of cost just arrived today ($781.95). 4. Purchased a NOS vinyl shift boot arrived but not installed. 5. removed all possible electrical parts from parts car to help with electrical gremlins. 6. collected shift levers and determined the shift problem and had a machine shop modify a correct shift lever to work complete and installed. I will continue to gather parts and when spring arrives attempt to complete my to-do list prior to extending it.

Possible to change valve retainer clip with head on block and cam still on?
Another way to insure you don't drop a valve in the process is to bring the engine to tdc on the compression stroke of that cylinder, pull the plug and pressurize the cylinder (requires an adapter) with air.

Unused original spare tire anyone? anyone?
Ok, my next quest is on. Does anyone have an original unused early z spare tire lying around? I am still working on the antenna that is coming along although I did not win an auction for a part I was trying to buy on eBay.:disappoin I did not fully understand:confused: the one bid option and when bidding at the last second that is not he option you want to use. Back to the spare tire I have a restored bare rim in the spare tire well of my Z and would like to put an original factory tire back on it. I have realized that I cannot get all I want complete on my car before I put it to bed for the winter. So I plan to get all the goodies together over the winter and then complete my projects in the spring. I have the rebuilt quartz clock:love:, I have most of the parts to put together a proper antenna, I have a set of luggage straps being restored (Zedsaver), I have a set of retractable seat belts being restored (Ssnake Oyl products), I am working on proper hoses and clamps etc… I am planning to put a stock set of wheels and tires on it , pull the battery, pull the windshield washer bottle, put the car cover on it and put it in a Car Jacket tomorrow for winter storage. I hope to have all the goodies ready for installation in the spring.

Clock replacement for 240Z (Quartz)
" I thought I might want to do as you suggest so I extended the wires from the existing 12 V power for the 240Z clock down to the AA battery holder that will go next to the fuse box in case I want to connect a voltage regulator later and get rid of the AA battery." Mike, way to think next step. I am excited to have the upgraded clock for Zclocks. He was very responsive and had less than a two week turn around. I have 5 more spare clocks I might consider experimenting with one of them. Thanks for the information that is what makes this site the place to be if you love your Z. JLP

Clock replacement for 240Z (Quartz)
I sent a clock out to Zclocks and had it upgraded to a quartz movement. I considered this option but did not want to deal with batteries. In reading this I was wondering if you could buy or build a voltage reduction unit and wire this clock directly into the 12v system.

Nice Survivor!
I just found this past listing on EBay. There were no bids at the opening bid of $24,500.00. Steve has indicated that they may be willing to take $31,000.00 for the car. I am surprised that the car did not have at least a opening bid at $24,500.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/240z-/150943120145?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true#ht_16051wt_1165

Nice Survivor!
Here is the response I recieved in regard to my request for documentation on the 8K miles. "This car only has the original documents (window sticker, sales reciepts etc, books tools)from new and only the one owner. No service records, oil changes or carfax. This is a REAL nice car with the correct miles. Also has the correct rims w/ hubcaps(no repro parts here). We here at Exotic Classics do not fake, or fool buyers to buy are cars that do not represent. We also hand select our cars when most dealers just do your average deals. I personally have owned three 240Z in my past and know them better than most folks. I am very honest and true to what I say. I only collect original cars and know their value as you read in my last emails. Please, if interested, come by or send someone who knows these cars and do a proper PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection). We stand behind this car and miles as we do all our vehicles. As a collector of only original classic cars, I would not hesitate to grab this one since it is one of my favorite cars here. This is a one of one."

Nice Survivor!
There was no such limitations put on my policy. Carl?

Nice Survivor!
Carl, I have asked if they can document the miles on the car.
-
Nice Survivor!
Following Carl's assessment I made an offer on the car which was rejected. The company representing the car called it a #1 example and show quality as it sits. I do like the car but Carl is correct if the car is completely as advertised it would take thousands and many hours to make it a #1- or #2+. I can't afford the asking price with that being considered. I would like to have another so that in the long run each of my son's could remember me while driving a classic Z car. They grew up seeing my 72 sit disassembled in the back of the garage and have both driven it since it's completion. They are in love with Classic Z cars just as we are. JLP

Nice Survivor!
Carl, I am glad that you weighed in on this. I initially, prior to pick up, insured the car for 30K. When I got back a local appraiser took a look at the car and said that it should be insured for no less than 60k. I went back to my agent who called Hagerty and requested the upgrade. They have photos. They said that the most they would insure an S30 for was $32,500 at this time. They said that I could get written appraisals and submit them and they would take a look at it. I have not followed through at this point but after reading your assessment and my local appraisers assessment I believe that I will have to mover forward and see what they say. Thanks Jerry Purcell

Nice Survivor!
My 72 has a production date of 7/72 last month of production for the 1972 model year.
-
Nice Survivor!
Seeing what it took to restore my 60K mile 72 I see this price as realistic if all stated can be documented. I do know that the maximum insurable value through Hagerty Classic Car Insurance For a early Z car is $32,500.00. I believe that you can have you Z insured for more through Hagerty if you go through an appraisal and approval process.

Nice Survivor!
This is a nice survivor. If all is documented this car is a good buy in my opinion. I am not associated with the car in anyway:paranoid:. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/117985724880483023801/albums/5788070953123916017
