Thanks, We have moved the pick up date back to March. My choice, don't need to bring it home in the middle of the winter in Indiana. Hope to make 2012 Z Con. I just received photos of all of the parts back from powder coat and we are deciding on tires, possible slight lowering and possible change of wheels from the original 14" Libres to a set of 15" LeMans to open up more tire choices. jlp

What are your favorite Quotes?
All those who believe in psycho kinesis raise my hand. The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she left me before we met. If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends? Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk? What happens if you get scared half to death twice? The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard. The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up. Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize. This is just a few of my favorite Steve Wright Quotes.

RIP Dan Welden
Bruce, You’re correct, the Indy series problems started with a power struggle between teams and the powers to be in Indianapolis. It could not have been at a worse time in that NASCAR was expanding rapidly in popularity. They then turned the league into a spec racing series and expanded it well beyond its popularity. They have changed everything majestic and epic about the Indianapolis 500 and are paying the price. They need to, before it is too late, scrape the icing off the cake and get back to the cake itself, if it is not already too late. I worked on the safety crews at the track for years and the change was disheartening. If you watch the car in the middle which started the chain of events he was out of control and not holding his line for quite some time before he made contact, definitely inexperience. But that being said I want to tip my hat to "Danny Boy", he was of a lost breed of gentlemen racer. JLP

Arne answers questions.
Arne, I have this for you! Why is the sky blue? The white light from the sun is a mixture of all colours of the rainbow. This was demonstrated by Isaac Newton, who used a prism to separate the different colours and so form a spectrum. The colours of light are distinguished by their different wavelengths. The visible part of the spectrum ranges from red light with a wavelength of about 720 nm, to violet with a wavelength of about 380 nm, with orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo between. The three different types of colour receptors in the retina of the human eye respond most strongly to red, green and blue wavelengths, giving us our colour vision. Tyndall Effect The first steps towards correctly explaining the colour of the sky were taken by John Tyndall in 1859. He discovered that when light passes through a clear fluid holding small particles in suspension, the shorter blue wavelengths are scattered more strongly than the red. This can be demonstrated by shining a beam of white light through a tank of water with a little milk or soap mixed in. From the side, the beam can be seen by the blue light it scatters; but the light seen directly from the end is reddened after it has passed through the tank. The scattered light can also be shown to be polarised using a filter of polarised light, just as the sky appears a deeper blue through polaroid sun glasses. This is most correctly called the Tyndall effect, but it is more commonly known to physicists as Rayleigh scattering—after Lord Rayleigh, who studied it in more detail a few years later. He showed that the amount of light scattered is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength for sufficiently small particles. It follows that blue light is scattered more than red light by a factor of (700/400)4 ~= 10. Did Ted Turner really invent color? No that was brought to us from space time travelers one of which was named Barbarella who later marred Ted Turner. Why are hotdogs sold in packs of 10, yet hotdog buns are sold in packs of 8? A hot dog bun company conducted a study that found that 20% of hot dogs were being used to train persons to control gag reflex in the following method: 1 Locate the area where the gag reflex is first triggered. The easiest way to do this is to use your hotdog to rub the tongue. Start at the front of the tongue and keep moving back until the gag reflex starts. The point closest to the front of the tongue that causes the gag reflex is the area you need to start desensitizing. 2 Rub the tongue at that spot where the gag reflex is triggered. Ignore the gagging and continue rubbing for around 10 to 15 seconds. Stop rubbing after the stated time period. 3 Repeat the same procedure every night for the first week. Rub the tongue in the same spot that the gag reflex is triggered. You should notice less gagging each time that you do this. until eventually there is no gagging at all. If it takes more than a week, continue doing it nightly until the gagging stops. 4 Move the gag reflex trigger back further by extending the area that you Rub. Rub 1/4 to 1/2 inch further back on the tongue. This new area is now the gag reflex trigger and where you should do your nightly rubbing. 5 Work on that area nightly until you can rub that part of the tongue without triggering the gag reflex. Each time that you are able to move the hotdog back further, you have disengaged the gag reflex on another part of the tongue. 6 Continue moving your hotdog back, and rubbing a new part of the tongue, until you can rub the entire visual portion of the tongue without engaging the gag reflex. And that my friends is why there are only 8 buns to a package.

VTO Le Mans Wheel.. anybody try these yet?
I have two sets of 14's Original Libres and Original Mini Lites. The problem with the 14's is tire selection. To get a good set of performance tires you have to go to a race spec tire and even then you are limited if you plan to drive on the street. That is the only reason I am considering the 15's. Just my 2 cents. jlp

VTO Le Mans Wheel.. anybody try these yet?
I have a set of racing Mini Lites from the early 70's and they were treated the same way. One casting machined to the needed offseet. JLP

VTO Le Mans Wheel.. anybody try these yet?
Les, (Classic Datsun Motorsports) and I discussed the possible use of the VTO LeMans wheels on my project, (1972 complete restoration 110 red with white interior of which I am the original owner), last night. My Z had the AR Libres on it when I purchased it in 72. We planned to restore the Libres for the project. We have not made a decision as of yet on the VTO's vs the Libres. The 14" wheels do limit your tire choices. I contacted Hoosier today to see if there "WET" racing tires would be an option. I do like the look of the VTO's but wanted to keep the car as it was originally. My car goes on the rack for re-assembly on Tuesday so we have some time to think about the Tires/Wheels. I also have an early set of Mini Lites in my attic but once again they are 14" limiting tire choice. Les also noted that Adams roadster was running a set of VTO's.

Looking for ORIGINAL 240Z STRUT SEAL KITS (NUTS)
Dan, I believe that Les used KYB's and my stock springs. After reading this thread I plan to call Les tomorrow and see what his thoughts are on this. I was thinking that I might suggest that we use the set of Original Datsun Comp. Springs which I have but that might cause some geometry issues. As for the strut inserts which I have they were laying in the rear hatch area along with some other NOS parts of a wrecked 70 Z which I purchased and parted out. The car was relative low mileage when wrecked and stored inside for many years. I would guess that they were to be installed on the 70 but you would have to check into the correct numbers. If you can use them let me know. Jerry

Looking for ORIGINAL 240Z STRUT SEAL KITS (NUTS)
Dan, Look up thread "240Z Factory Cartridge-Type Shock Absorber". I have a NOS set of factory strut inserts. There are photos included in the thread. Let me know if you are interested in the inserts. I believe Les used KYB? inserts in my project. JLP

Help needed ASAP
I have to agree it makes since that you are running out of fuel under hard load. That would also explain the effect of raising the needles and increasing the instances and decreasing the RPM of occurrence. You have changed all other cause effect items (electrics, overhaul, etc...) Focus on fuel system-supply.

1972 Off White Interor plastic/vinyl dye?
I had my local body shop supply company mix and match for me but I am affraid to use it. I has a green tint to it. I put a drop on my sunvisor where the retaining screw was covering the vinyl and it matches but it does not look white to me but has a green cast. JLP

1972 Off White Interor plastic/vinyl dye?
Manny, Can you have it mixed to match? If so do you know the formula? The original off white for the 72 is a bit of an odd color when looked at closely. Thanks JLP

1972 Off White Interor plastic/vinyl dye?
I am getting the last of my parts together for re-assembly of my 72 Z. It is 110 red with off white interior. I have NOS off white interior plastic but they have yellowed over the years. I know that paint companies make interior vinyl dyes such as Duponts “marhydeâ€. Can anyone suggest a product that would work on the plastic parts as well as the vinyl sun visors? Does anyone have the correct mix formula for the 1972 off white interior color? Thanks Jerry Purcell

Dam-I think I just blew a head gasket
Steve, I don't get blown head gasket from your description of the problem??? Good compression, the plug does not usually carbon up when you are getting water in the cylinder just the opposite, and the condensation from the exhaust with our weather lately is not abnormal. It will be interesting to see what is causing your problem. jlp
