Aftermarket ABS
Wouldn't an ABS system require the ABS sensors at all four wheels (or just two, if you want), a computer, and whole lot of other stuff? I do think they make them, tho, but I think they're pricey. Dave

MSA 4-piston upgrade with SS lines
Sorry, I haven't installed the kit but I was looking forward to getting it. Have you tried calling MSA? They are usually very good at helping over the phone. Just a thought. Dave

Possible 240z engines?
Early L-Series engines are great. Like DatsunZsRule pointed out, they are very easy to work on and very forgiving if you make a mistake. L-Series engines can also be interchanged with each other, like different model heads and cranks can do with each other to a degree. I have a small (read: amature) website up about all the different swaps and combos you can do. It's at www.geocities.com/garydatsunz . The F54 block from the 280ZX is a good, strong block. It has the siamesed cylinder walls for better cooling and it makes it stronger. If you are looking for serious power, then get a P90 turbo head. Of course, I am a believer in the old school, so I like the earlier P30 blocks with the E88 heads. Get an N36 intake manifold from a 260Z and get a triple weber setup and you will fly as well. Just my thoughts. Dave

Sorry, I was just trying to throw some humor into the mix- it's what I do. You can take it or leave it, really. I don't classify it as wasting my time if it got a few chuckles out of some of the people here..........

New Poll of the month
The other day when I got my 260 out of the garage for the spring time weather, I drove her to the grocery store (Not really "drove" her, more prayed she would get there in one peice! Damn, I have a sudden urge to work on her now ). Anyways, I pulled into the parking lot and behold the chances- a brand new 350 sitting in there. So I do the sly thing and part my 260 right next to the new 350. It was sweet. Granted, not to much visually the same (Heck, the badges aren't even the same!) but it was still cool. Well, cool until the owner of the 350 came out (some 23 year old guy) and looked at my car and said, "Nice car. What is it?" I felt an urge to smack him! I told him it was a Z and he looked at me funny. He just said, "Whatever, dude, I have the Z. Keep dreaming!" and got in his car and left. My jaw literally dropped. It didn't help any on the way home when some kid in a Civic at a stop light said, "Yo! Nice Probe!" What?? A Ford Probe?? Come on!!! Also, there was a little vapor-lock starting issue on the way home! GRR! Took like 3 minuets of pumping the gas and delicately working the ignition to get her started. Ahh, the joy of SU's! Dave

The Flame Thread
I agree with V-12 Horse and that was an excellent post. I have a said a few things that I didn't mean to say before, and I try to use humor in my post but usually not everyone takes it the right way and somehow gets offended. But I must say that this is one of the nicest forums I have seen. A while back when I was on a planet called high school (gasp!) I was a member of a Honda/Acura forum where the kids there, for lack of a better word, complete assholes. They would make crude sexual refenerences to everything and anything, call each names out of the blue, and rarely anyone got advice or help from there, at least I know I didn't. It was nothing more than an Ego-Board. But, you can look at the demographics of these two boards. The Honda/Acura board was mainly comprised of 16-21 year olds who felt it important that others know how tough they are. This site has much wiser (Older sounds like such a negative word, doesn't it?) members that are willing and ready to dispence advise to anyone with open hears, which is what a forum should be. But, everyone has emotions, and sometimes they do get the best of us and we just have to be careful. Dave

Sorry, the comment wasn't meant to be mean. I'm very happy that you want to know more and learn about Z's because these are greats cars. I was just making sure you weren't one of those punks who comes around and is like, "Dude, tell me what to do to my car to make it fast!" or "Can you add noss to these bitches??" I replied without looking at the 2nd page (I didn't see the 2nd page tab until after I replied). You want to learn more about Zeds that's awesome and welcome to the forums! I just wanted to make sure you won't a posuer, that's all.

Mother of all GTR's
that's like an orgasim in a car! just kidding Super nice tho- if I had 200 g's laying around I'd buy one (wait, if I had 200 g's I would probably fully restore my 260, oh well). Always loved the skylines. Dave

found a parts website
Don't know if any of you already know about this site (prob do, but oh well). It's www.expressautoparts.com . They have some good parts for early Z cars and really low prices. Just ordered 2 new u-joints, a Bosch spark plug wire set, and new brake pads all for 70 bucks and shipping is free on an order over 50 bucks. Just thought I would tell you guys looking for any parts. There is an alternative to MSA!! Dave

No more Webers!!!???
I didn't know about OER and I was considering buying these, but before I drop over 2K on it I was just running them by you. Oh, and Bambi- I meant to say "These AREN'T" but instead I said they "are". My made. I was making a contrast to why pay for some knock-off Jap brand Weber copycats when the genuine thing cost just a little more? Sorry for the confusion. BTW: Does anyone know the official Weber site? David

Having trouble finding an engine
I was planning on doing an L28 ZX Turbo engine swap in my 260z but i've been having a rough time finding a donor car or even an engine. My plan was to find some rust bucket on e-bay or in a local junkyard and buy the entire car and salvage more than just the engine, wiring harness, trans, ect, but also the front brake (complete with calipers, master cylinder [will the stock 260z MC work with 280zx front brakes? I don't see why not, and a new MC wouldn't hurt ]) and go from there, but no local junkyards have any TURBO 280zx's. I have found 2 beaten 280zx NA's, one was about 900 bucks because it still ran and drove and prob would have passed emissions. The other was 350 bucks or something- it had been in the junkyard for over a year the guy said and he doubted the engine was any good at all, plus it was NA so it was no good to me! I checked e-bay and have come up dry as well. I was going to buy this 1983 280zx turbo off a friend of a friends- the engine was tip-top and boosted great, only the floorboards were rusted out and the roof had a bowling ball-sized hole in it. Well, the deal almost went through for about $800 bucks until my loudmouth friend told him that I just wanted the engine for my car and was going to salvage the rest of the 280zx for parts- it almost brough the guy to tears like I was gonna knife his kid. So now I'm back step 1, maybe I'll just get a 45 doce triple setup and forged pistons in my L26 and go from there. All hope is lost!!! Dave

No more Webers!!!???
Well I was looking around on E-Bay for stuff for the good ole Z and came accross this bitchen triple carb, double barrell intake setup for any carbed L-series engine. They claim to be better than the Weber 45 DOCE-Type triple carbs as they are based off the same exact design only produced better and have more features to extract more power. In the description they also say that Weber Carburetor has stopping production???!! I thought the Italy plant just when on strike, I didn't know they stopped production? Has anyone else heard this, or is the old news and like usual I'm the last to know? The carbs on E-Bay here are made by a Japanese company called OER. Anyone heard of em? I haven't. They are the same 45 DOCE types and use all Weber brand jetting. Anyway, the look real nice and polished- if I had the green (or if I wasn't doing a ZX turbo engine swap) I would think about buyen em. Just my 2 cents. BTW: This $2G triple carb setup with linkage and intake manifold has a Buy It Now for just over $2,000, OUCH. These are genuine Webers, people! rasing compression
that's what I was saying- I know this is a turbo motor, I work on turbo motors a lot and have seen many turbo cars running 9:1 compression and being fine. With a good ignition coil, well tunned fuel injection, a big FMIC and a compressor bypass valve, and you'll be fine at 8.8:1 if you run lower than 20psi of boost. Don't forget a hotter cam! Dave

Starting project, Which engine to use?
OMG HE SAID NOS!!! NOOOOOOO SHAME SHAME!! RICE!!! If you want handling, DON'T get a V-8, you will throw your handling out the window!!! Find a nice 280zx turbo and pull the engine and trany- basically a drop-in setup, I know, I'm doing one myself. With some nice coilovers, anti-roll bars and a talented driver in the cockpit you will out-handle a lot of stuff. Dave

Bleeing the brakes 1973 240Z (?)
right with you kmack- I heard some bad stuff about speed bleeders as well, although I have heard some good stuff too. A power bleeder seems like the best bet here- if you know what you are doing it takes almost no time. Dave

Wilwood rear brake kits with E-Brakes!
I would love to see a Wilwood rear brake kit (possibly even a disc brake conversion; open up some other options ) but I doubt a mainstream company would make one for the Z, unless like EVERY member on this board signed an agreement to buy them when they came on the market so Wilwood could actually make a profit off it. Good find tho, you can always do custom fabricate a new system using top-line parts like Wilwood, Baer, Brembo, ect. Just a thought. Dave

Introduction/SF Bay Area mechanic recommendations?
The problem is your syncro's. If the throw-out bearing was to fault, the gear would engage only the shifter stalk wouldn't stay in gear, it would keep returning to neutral. Dave
-
Original or turbo??
I hear you. But I would rather buy some rust bucket that runs than take away a perfectly good Z, even if it is a ZX . Dave
