  1. great news! Thanks a mill and if the law ever changes, I plan on opening my own mechanics garage in a few years (specializing in Z's and Nissan's) so I could "pass" my car if needed and any1 elses on this forum Dave
  2. Hey everyone, and happy new year! I have a question for all you Z-owning California residents; it there a grandfather (or antique, collector car, ect) clause in your state in the emissions law? It would be a law that means a car xx years old doesn't have to pass emissions (like here in PA, if you car is 15 yrs old it doesn't have to pass emissions). I want to know because it looks like I will be moving to west Sacromento this coming June. Please, oh God, please let me keep my Z!!!!! Thanks for any replies! Dave
  3. it seems to me the doors, hood, wiper motor cover plate, and rear hatch would save the most weight, you think? Just a ballpark, maybe 150 pounds? Maybe more? I know I'd be interested in a front nose splitter (that attaches below the air dam). Too bad you have a 240z, I have a 260z, otherwise i could get some sweet CF parts. Dave

The engine fires (got new plugs) but dies at under 1 grand unless you give it constant gas. I'm possitive it's either the vacuum advance or the carbs- I want to lean towards the vacuum advance. Has anyone tuned or tweaked their vacuum advance, and if so, how do you do it? I know something's wrong but I need to know how to fix it! Dave
  6. thanks Ed and Inf No, speakers are stock (yuk!) but I do plan on upgrading them soon. Maybe I should hold off on installing the deck until I install the speakers? I was planing to just splice the aftermarket speaker wire into the stock speaker wire so I wouldn't have to run lines and all, but then again I have never done a stereo install before (I specialize in engines). Once I get the schematic I can get crack-a-lacken, but until then I'm wondering around in the dark........ I know I'm getting ahead of myself- I'm doing a full restoration/modiciation project to my 74 260z and the first thing I start with is the interior . I still need new floorboards, framerails, misc exterior parts, body kit (possibly), new paint, wheels/tires, full engine rebuild (although in it's current state it runs but I wouldn't trust it for more than 5 miles), new drivetrain and u-joints, and so much more. I know the first thing I should do isn't the stereo, but I couldn't help myself!! It was on sale!! I have no will power!! Dave
  7. yeah those dl's are no longer there- and because of my poor situation, I have an "off-brand" deck by the company Dual. Not too bad, but not too great. Just universal instructions, nothing for my car. It's not a big deal for me to splice the lines, I just need a blueprint of the wires and their respective colors (because the colors on the Z wiring harness are different than the colors on the new decks harness, like blue is power [i think] for the Z and yellow is power for the new deck). At the very least a sheet listing all the wires and their linking colors to the new deck (because I think the color codes have changed sense then, hence the discrepencies). Thanks Dave
  8. do you think there is a any copies of that manual floating around on the internet? I would love one, but then again I'm poor and can't afford to buy one right now... Dave

I just got this AM/FM/CD stereo reciever deck for the Z- came with a pre-assembled wiring harness and all. Well after a couple days I was finally able to remove the center console (the choke lever was causing a hairball of trouble) and get out the stock AM/FM radio. Well, none of the harness' match up and plus they're all male connectors. I went looking for adapters and found one at a WalMart for 74 and up Nissan's- didn't come close to working. I tried to hardwire the kit by splicing lines without a manual- litterally in the dark. Didn't pan out. If anyone has installed a custom reciever deck (which I know some of you have) can you please help me!! Any diragram/schmeatic would be AWESOME, especially if it would have the wires labeled by color. Thanks in advance. Dave

I am going to be repainting my 260z and i thought that this would make it the best time to install the MSA rear fender flares I had my eye on. I was thinking I could screw them into the fender wells with self taping screws o bolt them if i felt like doing more work. Or I could use a high qualitly 3m double sided tape or epoxy compound. If anyone has installed the MSA "mild street" fender flares please respond- how easy way it? Was Bondo required to blend them? What did you use to adhere them to the body? Thanks in advance. Dave
  11. i'm willing to help. What all is involved? Dave
  12. u-joint. Same thing in my 260. I checked out the u joints and they're crap. Just for good measure I took the car to a good friend of mine- a Japanese-only mechanic. I told me I was right and checked em out. My 2 cents. Dave
  13. thanks for the help, you guys are great. Hey, Bambikiller240, do you have a link to that site? Thanks a ton guys. Dave

Hey everyone, as you can see, I'm new here but not to Z cars, I have been surrounded by them all my life. Anyway, to get to the point, I was wondering if anyone out there had replaced the stock U-Joint on their 260z (or 240/280) and how difficult it is. What tools are required? How much time? I'm looking at getting the MSA Spicer oversized u-joints to replace my old rusted ones. Any input would be great- thanks in advance. Dave
