  1. Do you have the website/link and their part number??? Having trouble locating it.. Thanks
  2. Looking for the left lower rear fender (behind the rear left wheel), part # 30-7311 from MSA, for my 78' 280. I know this part has been on back order for months from Tabco but I'm wondering if anyone has an alternate source. Tabco supplies VB also so they'aint the way to go. Any thoughts?
  3. Thanks Ed. I can invest the time into stripping the paint and 'dent erasing' but I may be a little hesitant on the paint aspect of things. Never done anything like that but I'm pretty good at picking up things the first time. I've got a two car garage that I don't park in, it only houses the Z so I've got room. I don't know if I want to hang up tarps everywhere to make a 'paint room' so to speak. But just for s$!ts and giggles, how much did your paint spraying hardware cost? I'm not worried about the cost of the paint but what did you pay for a sprayer, compressor, nozzles??? I know a good paint job is going to cost me upwards of $2000 to $2500. But, ya got me thinking...wondering what the cost of the sprayer, compressor, nozzle types would be? Aye?
  4. What grit sandpaper did you use and what type of power sanders did you need? Speed? How many different types of hand sanders did you have to 'make' to get to the odd corners??? Thanks
  5. I'm going to do my best to do as much prep work before the z goes to paint. That being said, what grit sandpaper should be used to strip the paint down to the metal? Also, what tools?, circular sander?, what speed? preferrred body filler for dents? Thanks guys.

  8. Unless I'm missing something, I think it's called the 'filler', the metal flange above the rear bumper on a 78 Z....it looks like it's spot welded on to the rear of the body. How is this piece removed? I'm stripping everything off I can before it goes to paint..engine and tranny included. Going from Black Pearl to Black Pearl.

How do you remove trim above the both doors that runs the length of both doors and the rear window? Is this called the 'roof trim' or what? Note arrows in picture.

I'm in need of a front left and front right fender for my 78' 280. There is a good amount of rust on the bottom in front of both of the front wheels. Replacing the fenders may be cheaper than actually fixing the rust so I'm going to go that route. Has anyone ordered fenders from MotorSport or VictoriaBritish? If so, how well did all the seams, lines, and bolt holes match up? Any other suggestions to other avenues for parts is greatly appreciated.

Is there a special tool required to remove the metal trim and molding around the windows? If not, what is the recommened procedure to remove the trim without damaging it? A few scratches will be OK since I plan on blacking it out anyway. Also, what type of solvent should be used to remove any sealant around the moulding? New paint job in the works and I'm going to do all the prep work I can...thanks.
  13. I posted a thread about getting the engine from the 78 280 I just purchased rebuilt. Now, I'm thinking about just purchasing a rebuilt engine. I've seen prices ranging from about $1600 to $1200 on several internet rebuilt engine sites. Seems as if these prices will be close to, if not better, than getting my engine rebuilt locally which I'm kind of hesitant about anyway. Does anyone have any experience in purchasing a rebuilt engine over the internet or have any opinions/suggestions on who is recommended for rebuilt Z engines?
  14. When you hear someone talk about or see an ad that says rebuilt engine, what was actually replaced? I recently purchased a 78 with high mileage. Engine and tranny will be coming out to re-paint the engine bay and I want to get the engine rebuilt. So, what needs to be done to restore? Looking forward to the list...

I'm on to a 78 that I may purchase that was originally this color. The car does need to be re-painted. My question is who carries this original paint color? Will the paint and body shop be able to find it or do I need to purcahse this myself through Nissan and bring it to the shop? Also, if the body shop can order it, how do I know that it is actually the correct black pearl and not from Billy Bobs Paint and Pork Products? Thanks
