  1. IIRC, the only lever than comes to mind is the the one that attaches from the breaker plate assembly to the vaccum advance diaphram. If so, has it become disconnected?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahh, but the day they are put back on the road and driven makes it all worth it. I remember questioning my sanity from time to time during my 240 rebuild and as most have experienced the way one's wallet continues to loose gerth. Yeh, it was certainly an exercise in patients and fortituned.....but all the pain is now gone and the pleasure abounds each time I take drive in the 240. Tom

Nice choice of color, I must say!!! I'm guessing the antisipation of getting her back on the road is killing you about now!?. Tom
  4. Did they ever make a 2+2 Scarab? And if it's been made a convertable, it would likely need some chassis stiffening. Tom
  5. Arne, Something additional to consider! I added two aluminum straps, one on each side spaced approximately 30" to 36" apart, that run from the leading edge of the spoiler up to the lower face panel. I actully seemed to feel a bit more stability at speed. I'm sure you've seen this sort of spoiler reinforcement. The spoiler is now very rigidly mounted but, not to stout that it wouldn't rip away under inpact. The reasoning behind the strap is....if I can easily flex the spoiler downward by hand, it is certainly going to flex downward at speed. Wish I had a pic to show! Tom

I've actually had those seats in my Z many years ago...comfortable seats by the way! The only issue I had with them was you wind up sitting too high in the cockpit, even if you mount them without sliders. I'm 5' 10" tall. The problem lies with the way the seat is constructed. Take a look at the stock seats and you can see how the butt cushion is a suspended design...allowing your butt to actually sink below the sliders. On most after market seats, they use a shell design where the butt cushion is limited to compression by the shell....which is just slightly above the sliders. However, there are a few entry level racing seats (Sparco, Momo, etc., etc.) that use the suspended butt cushion design....allowing a seating position similar to the stock seats. I finally chose the Sparco "Sprint" seats because they use the suspended design. The "Sprint" seats have no tilt back adjustment...fixed angle but by using spacers on the mounting points, you can angle them to a position you are happy with. Hope this helps you a bit! Tom

There is a positive side, regarding people who insist on using their cell phones, to talk or text, while driving....what ever experience they think they might possess or how ever safe they think they are! It's bound to decrease the number of idiots in the gene pool!!! I'm quessing you have all heard of the "Darwin Awards"......well, for folks that continue to exercise their right to be irresponsible and inconsiderate of others, they may just end up listed in the Darwin Award files. The negative side of this is.....the idiots are bound to take a few smart folks along with them! Tom

Good for a morning chuckle.....#3 is my favorite! Tom
  10. My guess is that you can continue driving as long as you take it easy on the driveline and keep the speed down. However, if it is vibrating excessively, you might reconsider! Tom
  11. It's most likely you have other issues....ie; worn out bushings and tie-rod ends. When the the steering and suspension have room to move around on their own, they will, causing the old shimmy and shake. Tom
  12. Yeh...the red pic looks great! Thanks for sharing. Tom

Welcome to Classic Zcar Club! As others have mentioned, this is the site.....great info to be had and great people sharing it! I'm just east of you in Santa Paula......also, Rob Gunner (a member here) lives in Ventura. Again, Welcome Tom
  14. Regarding the use of an electric fan vs stock.....the main reason I went with an electric fan was to free up a bit of horse power robbed by the stock unit! Same reasoning for an electric fuel pump vs stock fuel pump! Not much to be gained but, a little is better than none!!! Tom
  15. Mike, isn't this the Z commercial with the 240Z driving down the twisty mountain road during a blizzard? Tom

I think maybe it was old Barnun (Barnun & Bailey) phrased it this way....."A fool and him money soon part!". Tom
  17. Sounds like George got the short end of the stick....come on, all that developement in turn for a 350Z ROFLROFLROFLROFL! Even though george has been offered a paying consultant job, I'm sure they already got the golden ring!

Welcome aboard! Just curious.....what does "NO 56" indicate? And, are you sure the webers are not down draft, as side draft webers on an L series engine are generally a set of three, not two! Sorry for the it-picking! Tom

janaka, Good taste in wheel choice! I believe these style wheels just look right on the early Z's (or any sports car)......provided the car doesn't sit too high. Take a look at my photo album to get an idea of what a 3pc wheel in this style looks like. Before I installed these wheels on my Z (back in 2001), the only other Z I ever saw with them was Tod Kaneco's (spelling?) orange 240 at the 30th anniversary Z show in Las Vegas. They seem to be gaining popularity! Tom

Typically this issue is a failed front differential mount. It's design is similar to your standard issue engine mount....steel/rubber. When it fails (separates) it allows the nose of the differential to lift under load. There should also be a limiting strap in this location that stops the nose of the differential from slamming into the bottom of the chassis. Another thought....also check your U-joints on the drive shaft and axle shafts, as this cam also be a cause of the clunking. Hope this helps. Tom
  21. Mark, With regards to Z aerodynamics, you may want to check in over at HybridZ! They have been doing some wind tunnel testing on our favorite cars. Just thought it could be helpful to find out what they have discovered. Tom

Welcome aboard Mark! You will find this is a very happening Z site (best) for the early Z cars...both technical info/advice and excellent members. You may want to become familiar with the SEARCH finction, as there are loads and loads of information....if it's ever been done to a Z car, it's likely to be in there somewhere! Also, if interested in serious modifications you may also want to visit Hybridz (the other great Z site). As you have seen, everyone like pictures...so don't be shy! Again, welcome! Tom
