  1. Well, as a general rule.....with the diff level, fill it till it starts to pour out the fill plug on the cover. Tom

Welcome to Classic Zcar Club zedric! Great site, great people, great cars, and tons of information available. Just a note....the search function is your friend. It provides access to information on the early Z cars, on just about any subject matter you may be interested in learning about. P.S. If I remember correctly, Finland has some of the most beautful women on the planet. Again, welcome aboard!!! Tom

Might make a great project car! But as we all know too well, and especially a Z from Colorado left in the weather, the rust monster is going to be present.....the question is, just how exstensive is it? Hard to tell without an in person inspection. The good news....its a 1970 or at least an early 1971. Tom

Mike, Datsun originally install a round DATSUN badge on the front/center of the early Z hoods. It protrudes about .250" but does not look like a gunsight. Many people remove the badge because it just clutters the clean lines. Hey, maybe the PO was an old wing gunner in a flying fortruss and wanted to remind themself of the Good-OLE-Days! Tom
  5. Come again????:stupid: I'd have to agree that the lines of the Z are what cought my eye! It was my senior year in high school and the first time I saw one of these beauties, I knew I had to have one someday! They definitely had the EURO look....couldn't hardly believe that a car this good looking could cost so little. Well.....13 years later I owned a 1970 240Z. I've owned the same car ever since. Tom

Well, it seems as though a multi-meter and test probe are going to be your best friends here! Don't you just hate it when this stuff happens? My best advise is to go through and recheck all your grounds first and then look for any fried wires that may be intermitantly shorting. Check the relay too as a power spike, caused from your reg short, may have damaged them....maybe! These electrical issues can drive you to drinking! I would think that someone else will jump in and add some advise as well. By the way, welcome to the site and keep us posted on what you find! Good luck. Tom
  7. What Arne said is so true! Regarding doing the measurements on engine components......there is more to it than just mic'ing a part. There are specific areas and measurements from different angles that will provide you with the correct information. So as mentioned, if you do not have the specific tools and experience to do the task....take it to a reputable machine shop that does this work on a regular basis. Tom

Jon & Paul This may be of interest to you guys. On my 1970 with 1" front bar/200 lbs springs and 3/4" rear bar/275 lbs springs I was getting a loose coming out of lower speed tight corners...which is what I mostly do while playing in the Z on the street. I decided to see what would happen by removing the rear bar, as it was a suggestion by one of the Hybridz guys. So, I removed the rear bar and the car is now tighter and can exit these tight corners much quicker. Anyway, I'm much happier with this set-up for my needs. As we all know, there are many other variables that contribute to handling as a whole. Tom

I quess the first question I would ask is.....is a differential cooler allowed in his class? IIRC, there was a good write up by someone on HyrbridZ about this subject. I may be worth looking into. Tom

If you want to try running a 1" sway bar.....go for it! Unless you want a pristine period correct Z, do what you must to install the bar. You will most likely notice an improvement with corner turn-in responce and a bit flatter overall cornering. Tom

VEG-O-MATIC wheels!!? They slice, they dice, they even cut off the fingers of curious kids. Have the weeds in your driveway become out of hand? No problem...VEG-O-MATIC wheels will clear the way :stupid: Tom

Sounds like a personal problem TomoHawk! They're just kids trying to be cool. Certainly they don't meet your approval, and lord knows they should have checked with you first before blinging their ride out!!! I'm sure every generation has its differences....but the fact of the matter is, these kids dig cars! OK, they don't meet your standards....but since when did you become the marque by which all must comply? I would guess that there have been times when some of these kids have seen you in your Z and said....Yo dude, check out the figgin geek in the Z!!! Enough said.:dead:

I think the guy is hoping he gets lucky!!! From the general look and condition of the Z, I would bet this Z has many of the usual issues we have all encountered! Just because it has an RB engine and paint that looks pretty good in a photo plus the incompleteness of it all doesn't in my book qualify as a $15K car. At $15K the car should be complete and looking percfect.....so basically, I think this guy is a dreamer! Tom P.S. Anyone want to buy my 1970 240Z for $25,000.00????
  14. Mikey, It doesn't appear to me that the quaulity of this artwork is anywhere near the quaulity you have done previously...at least what I saw on the link you posted. Just my 2 cents worth! Tom

  18. I would be interested. Your artwork looks pretty good and the price seems right. However, can't comment on what I can't see! Tom
  19. I quess the point here is to keep your Z in top running order and you won't need any tools when your out and about. Sorry Tomohawk, but thats just my perspective on the subject!
  20. My tool kit consists of.............a cell phone!!!
  21. duffman, IIRC there are people who can repair scratches in wind shields! I don't know any specific name but remember seeing adds to that nature. They generally come to your car and do it on site. So, save that early rear window! Tom

Interesting little car....saw my first one in Germany a few years back. I visited their website to see what the Americanized version would cost.....holly smokes $25K !!!!? 60 hp in a 1588 lbs car.....I guess it could get out of it's own way, just not very quickly! The thing has got to get really good gas mileage, I suspect. As I remember, you can turn your head, look out the rear window, and see the ground and rear bumper at the same time.....shoot, you could see a mole on the face of a California tailgater at that distance!!!:nervous: Tom

If you've never attempted this exercise, you may want to take it to a good automotive type upholstery shop and let them do it. The price they charge you will likely be less than what you are looking forward to if you F the install up. Just a suggestion! Tom
  24. Tomohawk, I'm not certain but, IIRC the difference between the advance curves on a MT and AT distributors are in the mechanical advance mechanisms...not in the vacuum advance pot. Tom
  25. Gary's info is sound advise! A while back someone raised a similar question about their newly installed 2 1/2" exhaust system and wanted some input on reducing the resonance at around 2K to 2.5K. I suggested installing, as Gary also mentioned, a glass pack type muffler shortly after the header collector. The muffler I suggested is the small and farely short race type muffler....available from Summit Racing. Basiclly no restiction but resulted in significantly reducing the resonance.
