R200 worth it??
Another thing you may consider doing, to help you from breaking the rear end, is the install a LSD carrier. The reason I say this is because the standard differential (R200) is an open unit and only has a two pinion spider assembly. By going to the LSD carrier, you will get a four pinion spider assembly....which is much more durable and you will get power to both wheels reliably.

Has this ever happened to you?
To be specific....its the fiberglass BRE type SPOOK spoiler I purchased from MSA. It didn't go unscathed however! I had to dress up the leading edge (remove some material to match what had been ground away) a bit and it now has a couple of small cracks at each side. It will be OK until I get a new spoiler....looks OK and I now have a little more ground clearance!

Has this ever happened to you?
Well, it was friday afternoon (day off work) and i was taking my 240 for a little fun run up and down highway 33 (Ventura County). On the way up the hill I got lucky and there was zero traffic. I turn around and head back down the hill and I see this red Mitsubishi GT 3000 going up the hill.....to make a long story short, the guy in the GT 3000 had turned around and was chasing after me. Just near the bottom of the hill I see the guy in my mirror so I pick it up a bit. As luck would have it, just as we both were begining to have a little fun (nothing crazy mind you), my front fiberglass spoiler decided it was time to come loose. Apparently the bolts securing the center of the spoiler had come loose and the spoiler tipped down enough to catch an edge and roll under on the pavement. Holy crap! What a nasty sound. So, I slow and pull off the side of the road to inspect the damage while watching the guy in the GT 3000 cruise by smiling. As you can imagine my pride was the only thing that suffered any damage to speak of. The spoiler....well it was not as bad as the nasty sound made it out to be. So, have any of you had your parade rained on like my little experience?

Seen on Mulholland over the wkd... wtf??
I think the owner/builder/designer has an identity crisis.....either that or too many drugs at an earlier age!!? Probably fun as hell to drive.

getting there.
Gary, Have you looked into possible problems upstream from the SUs? Alot of time on these old Zs, the gas tank has accumulated some rust and it tends to flake off and will plug the fuel pickup line in the tank. I know it a PITA, but if your tank has some rust, and I'm guessing it pobably does, pull it out and have it flushed.

New guy in the place
Welcome Ernie! Always lots-O-fun things going on here. By the way, anybody who likes a red Z car is OK by me. A word to the wise.....we have a search function here that will allow you to access just about anything you might want to know about the early Z cars. There are alot of really good folks here and most the time it feels like a big family....so enjoy!

fuel/vapor tank question
Its a common thing to remove the old plastic vapor tank. Somewhere in the system, it is advisible to have a tank vent....collapsed tanks are not much fun! What I did was to fabricate a vent in the gas cap that also prevents fuel from slosching out when G-loads are present from cornering.

EBay Project ('F' Word) restoration car
Did you also notice that the brake vacuum fitting location on the intake is also a 1970 or early 1971?

EBay Project ('F' Word) restoration car
Maybe I'm just too used to looking at my Z car but, do you guys think this car is sitting a bit on the high side......looks like its a 4x4 240! Certainly would be a good buy. I would be asking alot of questions and actually look at the car in person. Maybe the guy thats selling it doesn't have much time to spend on it but, four years of reassembly time and its not completed.....hmmm! And what kind of skills and abilities does the seller have?

1970 240Z Low# For Sale On Ebay
Thanks for that little tidbit of info on the engine numbers Carl. Unfortunitely the original engine went by-by around 1986. I currently have an L28 (N42) with SUs instead of FI.

forced induction
Sure, why not! Your talkin some involved fabrication here! Also, Jim Cook Racing used to sell a rotory vane style supercharger set up....sold for around 3500.00 and that was years ago. Also also, I believe one of the Z guys, either here or on Hybridz, is selling his setup (Jim Cook unit). Hes doing the V8 conversion now. Hes also the president of a Z car club back east. Nice looking early Z, white in color and 17" wheels all the way around. Sorry his name isn't coming to mind.

rust in gas, bad running now
Another likely place for a clog is the pick-up tube in the gas tank. They have no screen and if rust flakes are in the tank they will be sucked right into the unscreened pickup tube. As Ed mentioned, have the tank completely flushed.

Hello Everyone
And if you can't find it here, you can likely find it at Hybridz. Another awesome site I might add!

Tips on replacing half shaft U joints on 280ZX
You don't want to support the rear wheels....you want them to be in full droop so you have better room to collapse the section and can rotate the half shafts. I'm sure its been done while supporting the wheels but when you have to rotate the half shafts for good access to the fasteners, your sunk! Other than that, its a typical U-joint replacement deal.

I'm going to need lots of help
These distributor have a track record of the vacuum advance assembly going to hell......actually coming apart. Parts can be had from Nissan. I live in SoCal, so I can't recommend a good Datsun/Nissan mechanic. Hang in there, someone will chime in! FYI....and you probably have already figured it out but, Classic Zcar Club's focus is on the early Zs....240, 260, 280.

240Z Dash removal
Pulling the dash in and out has got to be one of the most challenging (fun, PITA, beer required, etc., etc.) items, along with the rear spindle pins, on a Z car. Limber up, have patients, and plenty-O-refreshments!

FI to SU's question
You souldn't have to worry about the injector grooves on the head, as the SU intake will cover them, provided you use a gasket intended for SUs. Something to consider while you have the intake and exhaust off, replace all the old mounting studs, preferably with SS. Also, use a gasket that will actually make a seal. Retorqueing the fasteners after the engine has run for a while is a good idea for insuring a long term seal.

2006 MSA event in April, WHO'S GOING??
Well, the only thing that would prevent me from attending would be a dirt nap. Now showing up with my 240 is always dependant upon the weather! If its a high probability of rain, like last year, the Z car stays in the garage! WE NO DRIVEY THE Z IN THE RAIN....period!!! I'll still be there, rain or shine. Hope to see some of you there. Also, I hope exhibit parking issues have gotten better....if you've been there done that, you know what I'm talking about. Show up way early, have made arrangements to park with a specific group, then have the folks directing the parking effort poo poo on it and stick you out in the friggin boonies!!! Very disappointing to say the least. I'm trying to be optimistic about it this year...we'll see.
