Underdash Panels
Tomohawk, How about giving Victoria British or Motorsport Auto a call. They have this sort of stuff and its worth your while to get their cataloges. The cataloges provide you with pretty good visual references too.

wheel bearing install
First, you may consider purchasing a shop manual on your Z. If you plan to exicute the entire job yourself, you will be buying some tools. If you've never done this before, employ the services of a friend who has...or just take it to someone who is in the business of doing so.

has anyone restored their license plate?
So, one would assume you are still running the original tires...right! I think not. Like I said...each to his own!

350/240
Hey Vicky, I'm glad someone appreciates my humor! As I said previously, the quality and exicution of Mr. Sangalang's Z is outstanding...but as you put it, the styling is a bit extreme.......a tadpole! Isn't that what makes the world go around?

has anyone restored their license plate?
I say, screw the old time correct blue and yellow plates....purchase a nice new white one! They certainly have much better eye appeal on the Z. But thats just my opinion!

350/240
Yah, I saw the car at the MSA (wet) 05 show. It certainly turned some heads! Sorry I can't provide you with a POC. IMO, this is one of those cars that the exicution of the work done goes unquestioned, but the flavor or outward looks of this car are a bit different....weak! If the guy had just left the original lines of the car alone, it would have turned out much much better. But, each to his own I suppose!!! Looks to me like a series one Z with a strange deformity (350Z influenced). Maybe in a few years it will actually turn completely into a TOAD!!?

MR2 or 240z-I have to choose :(
Well, I guess I'll have to add my two cents worth, as this appears to be a life changing situation for Room4/2! Brother, and I use that term loosely, every so often in life certain unique things occur or come our way. Now, its my point of view that the early (original) Z cars fit into that catagory. So, just do it, you won't regret it!!! Back in 1970 when I first was the 240...it was love at first sight and I knew that one day I'd have one of my own. Thirteen years later (1983), I made good on my promise to myself and purchased my 1970 240Z. In the year 2000, I breathed new life into the old girl and turned her back into a....shall we say, a 18 year old hardbody . Members here know what I'm talking about! So, at this point there should be no more question about the choice you make.......RIGHT???

Where Do YOu Practice Your AutoX Stuff?
Carl, I'm still looking for THAT big parking lot. Years back we would sneak out on the local airport runway at night (no planes flying of course) and have your way with it....plenty-O-room for sure. Currently, it seems like every friggin PERFECT plot of ashphalt has a fence and locked gate around it. I know what your saying about spending too much time playing as you will get thoughs unwanted spectators in the black and white cars. However, early morning runs at a reasonable pace on any of my favorite play routes work too! Of course you can only play so hard on the street....a sactioned track is definitely the ticket for maximum fun and safety!!!

New Poll of the month June 05
When is it OK? When ever you wants and when ever the $$$ is available. Toys are made to play with and have fun. If it blows your skirt up....go for it! I just love my 240, so what ever it takes to push that certain button (fun button), it will add it to the wish list.

70 - Tie rods/ ball joints
Carl, I think I hear an echo!

F54 L28 bottom end rev limit?
Gavin, I'm no expert but drilling the rockers to loose valve train mass sounds like premature failure to me! I understand that some engine builders will smooth, polish and balance the rockers....but drilling holes in a high stressed member seem questionable. Phred will likely add to this, based on his experience. P.S. If you paint the rockers RED, it will improve your HP 50%!!!

70 - Tie rods/ ball joints
The ball joint are the same but the tie rod ends are smaller on the 70 240. You can either ream out the tapper to fit the later tie rod ends or replace the steering knuckles with the later version. If you go the route of replacing the steering knuckles, you may consider replacing them with the quicker steering (shorter), steering knuckles.....provides you with a much nicer steering responce.

Need more wheel choices
I believe Victory Laury has a set of the five spoke wheels for sale...or did! Look in the classified section on this site.

Vac advance & ign timing problems
I can't provide you with an answer to your original question but, upon observing the pics of your SU's I see that you have the float bowl vents tied together with a section of hose. From this observation I would ask you if the section of hose is vented to atmosphere...as in, are there any holes somewhere along the hose that vent the two float bowls? Just something to think about! The float bowl require venting.

So what have you guys replaced this stuff with? (sound deadening)
There is this stuff called Dynamat thats good and maybe a little expensive compared to the stuff sold by MSA. A lot of car audio installers use it and it installs neatly. Thats about the best stuff I know of!

cross member modification
Chris, raising the LCA pivots as opposed to using the spacers is a good way to go to improve upon the bumpsteer issue, but it will not help your tie-rod end clearance issue. If you move the pivot point up only, there should be no toe issues...however I'd still have the alignment checked after the mod is completed. I'm not positive on the exact amount my 240 is lowered, but the top most part of my Z is 48" high and I have, at the front cross-member, 3 3/4" ground clearance. I certainly avoid speed bumps!!! I have coil-overs and 17" wheels, so I can run wide tires and I have good clearance for the tie-rod ends. Talk at you later, Tom

Who makes this mirror?
By the way there Mr. TomoHawk, it's not very good practice to publish derogatory statement about Classic Zcar members on HybridZ! I participate regularly here and HybridZ and think it's just childish for you to do so....so please stop, you're only degrading yourself. Each site has it's merrits! Your responce is not neccessary...thank you!

Indy 500 Not Won By Danica Patrick!
Interesting thread and interesting comments. All I can say is, any driver who qualifies for the 500 and finishes is damn good as well as damn lucky. Regarding all the hype about Danica Patrick....well, it's just plain old media crap and nothing else!!! Anyone who gets sucked into the habitual media hype is narrow minded and has the blinders on!!! Let's face it, this is just one fast and talented racecar driver....the proof is in the pudding!

cross member modification
Robs input is good advise for sure. One thing to think about when moving the pivot point outward, you will be adding negative camber to the front suspension unless you have adjustable camber plates to compensate! Also, you will surely need to readjust your toe setting, as it will gain alot of toe-in. I've read a few articles that caution about moving the pivots too far out, as you may run out of threads (with stock steering links)when attempting to readjust the toe. It just so happens that I'm in the middle of doing the pivot relocation mod. In addition, I'm modding the LCA's with adjustable links and ball end bearing...plus, modding the TC rods in the same fashion. I also have adjustable camber plates, so I should have a very adjustable front suspension when I'm done with the effort. I have relocated my pivot points 0.75" up from stock and each side has been moved out 0.1875" Question, have you been experiencing bumpsteer?

Who makes this mirror?
Never fear, I am always near!!!! TomoHawk, mirrors are pretty damn inexpensive! Just find some new ones you like, buy them, and install them. Through the old ones in the trash...they've served their time.
