NISSAN GTR......wow!
In my opinion, if one has the funds to purchase a car like the GT-R, it's likely one would be able to pay for expensive maintanance.....if not, one would be foolish to purchase such a car! Just like some of the other supercars out there that have composite brake rotors.....at about $10K for replacement! All that aside.....the GT-R certainly looks awsome in person and sounds delightful under full throttle. Made my heart pick up a few beats anyway! Like a certain over stuffed man has said repeatedly...."Do I need a car like this? Well no! Do I want a car like this? Absolutely!!!" Tom

Good point on block rebuild...
Thank you conedogger, my point exactly regarding an actual rebuild @ 10K ago! Somehow I'd have a hard time believeing a rebuild was actually done and if it was, was it done correctly. I don't know, personally I'd be pulling it apart to do at least an inspection. I quess some folks are willing to take a bit more risk than others.....relying on a stangers word. Tom

NISSAN GTR......wow!
On Sunday, late morning, I was driving back from the desert on my way home from riding my dirt bike when I got to see a new GTR. I was on hwy 138, a long two lane road running between Interstate 5 (near Gorman) and the 14 freeway (in SoCal), when I noticed a bunch of cars pulling onto 138 from a side road. They were all blowing through the stop, at least until I came upon them, splitting the group in two. All the cars appeared to be high end sports cars but, I could not identify the cars ahead of me nor the ones behind me now. I figured they would eventually go by me and sure enough they started going by at....I'm guessing 80 to 90 mph (I was cruising at 65). The first car by was a black w/white stripes Ford GT40, next was an orange Porsche GT3, then a BMW M6....then, and to my delight a silver GTR. All I could say was WOW!!! The car looks way better in person than any of the photos I've ever seen! The sound of all these awsome cars was just amazing. There were also many vettes and M3 beemers in the group. Anyway, it certainly spiced up my drive home Sunday so, I wanted to share the experience with you all. Tom

Good point on block rebuild...
Generally speaking, an engine with 100K miles on it, is not a good candidate for higher performance mods! I would personally go through the entire engine's internals and freshen everything up! Tom

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics
As you would expect, I've also been enjoying the 2008 Olympics. However, like other, I find it a little hard to believe the Chinesse team has underaged girls competing, when the Olympic rules specifically state that competitors must be at least16 years old.........hmmmmmmmm!!? Other than the age issue, the games have been great to watch.....some pretty amazing performances for sure!!! Tom

Message to the GUYS of CZCC
Regarding the sentence in your statement, "Maybe it has to do with the lack of accountability that comes with being behind a computer screen.", has something to do with it! Isn't a lack of accountability, in this case, a personal trate and something we all should have control of? Tom

...The "Anyone want a beer?" thread (SoCal)
Grand idea! However, with the current price of fuel and the fact that California is such a large state, I think it would be extremely tuff to make it happen for a cassual get together! On most Saturday mornings I generally go for a drive in my 240Z and hit the local back roads for some fun and enjoyment. I've always wished there were other local Z folks that could attend these fun drives but, to date I've never had any takers nor do I ever see any other early Z's on the road......OK, maybe every once and a while I see a Z on the way to work but, they are most always in sad sad shape and I suspect the owners have no special interest in Z's, other than their Z gets them to work. Again, great idea! Tom

doin stuff to the Z
There are two options for the rear sway bar......the factory set-up and an aftermarket set-up. With a little bit of searching in our archives section, you should find all your answers regarding rear sway bars! Tom

Why do 2.4L rev harder?
I wouldn't have choosen the words "harder reving", but possibly quicker reving! Why, because of a shorter stroke.

What are these parts?
As best I can I remember about this portion of the early smog systems is they were intended to prevent quick return of the throttle, when you lifted the throttle......the thought was to decrease the amount of fuel/air being dumped into the intake during throttle lift. Tom

Front shaking in fast turn
You may want to check tolerances in the steering rack and the small U-joints on the steering shaft along with the rubber steering shaft coupler! Tom

My question is........how fast is it on an autocross course??? Tom

help with wheel spacers
If you have the capacity to actually determine where you want your wheels to sit on your Z and can render some accurite demensions, then you might consider a local machine shop for the fabrication of the spacers......it will not likely be cheap however!

help with wheel spacers
I turned my own spacers, since I was dealing with 35mm offset on a pair of 17x8 front and 17x9 rear. No one makes spacers for my application, at least that I'm aware of! Tom

RIP Scott kalitta

Differencial Welding????
If you do decide to go with a solid rear axle, you want to weld the spider gears together. Blake is correct in saying, if you are using this as a street car you will find it a bit of a pain when turning....especially tight turns. Tom
