Solex Locks?
Datto-Zed, If the lock fits properly in the original lock cylinder hole and can be secured, that will solve one issue. However, the problem will be getting the tail piece (the lever arm part on the end of the lock cylinder that does the actuation when you turn the key) of the new lock to work with the Z locking linkage. If you can work this out you will likely be the first guy to have tubular locks on your Z. Good luck and let us all know how it turns out!

Solex Locks?
260Zed, Have had no experience with the Solex brand but most tubular type locks are of pretty good quality, so they should last. Other than that they do the same thing as any other pin type lock, except the pins on a tubular lock are oriented in the axial plane as opposed to the vertical plane in your standard type pin tumbler locks. You should be really confused now!!! The good part is that most people think these type of lock cylinders are SPECIAL and they will usually avoid trying to f_ _k with them (using a screw driver).......this is a good thing. Also, the tubular type lock is harder to pick open. Are you going to install these on the Z doors?

Brakes
Try looking for Terry Oxandale's website. He has docuemented a couple of different brake upgrades, using nissan parts. One is for the track and one is for the street. I actually did his street conversion. It's pretty easy and I am more than happy with their performance. I'm using METALMASTER pads by the way. Good luck.

Has anyone ever tried to install these seats?
The only advise I can offer, based on my experiences with different seats, is.........If you are a tall person and don't want your head right next to the headliner, purchase seats that have suspended type butt cushions (like the original Z seats). A lot of aftermarket seats use a shell and the butt cushion sits on the shell. By the time you install sliders on these type of seats you will be sitting relatively high. Now, a person can eliminate the stock seat supports (not my preference of course) and modify as required but, that's a lot more work. I'm 5' 11" and I have installed SPARCO SPRINT seats (without sliders) and have used the stock mounting. I had to drill a few new holes in the stock mounts and used some of the stock spacers to aquire my correct attitude but I now sit perfectly in the Z (240). Anyway, I hope this info is of some help to you.

Line X question
Well..............the stuff may be just what the body shop guy says it is and all, assuming you can trust the body shop guys work. That's not to say he could also be extremely good. All I'm trying to say is....If you won't be able to sleep well at night knowing that you didn't apply the primer and POR-15, then go ahead and do the primer and POR-15. What's that old saying......"A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Just some food for thought!!

Dragster
Tanny, Definately some cool information. I was always curious about the sparkplug life on the top fuel diggers. P.S. I know some people, were I work, that can produce more hot air than the 3000cfm blower and they don't even know what a Hemi is!!! Do you know what I mean?

Hay Steve, You don't suppose this group will show up tomorrow in Santa Barbara!? Wishful thinking, I know but, it never hurts to be optimistic about such things. If they do, I know what's for dessert!!!

Keith's back yard...
Easy there Larry! Sorry if any offence was taken but, I think you took my comment out of context. What I should have said was.....But hay, any old car that's been subjected to salt on the roads during the winter will look like that. Am I forgiven?

Ben, Thanks for the responce on the Stock Falcon specs. I must say you Ozzy guys exhibit great enthusiasm for motorsports....I love it!!!

Looks good. The car sits well....tires/wheels are well positioned. Nice classic look. Aren't these cars a hoot to drive? Congratulations on your new ride.

It's a beut!!! Did you notice the custom rear mounted radiator and fan. I hear it makes for good weight transfer! Oh, and the limited edition WONDER tail lights! You gotta wonder where they are? But hay, its from New Joyseee. I also like the color fade job under the hood on the fender wells....cool stuff!!! Seriously though, it definately looks like a parts car at best. The iron oxide monster is winning that game for sure. Steve.....you a funny guy! See ya on saturday

Fuel return line
Yah, You guys are right about the red color, it is definately a ticket magnet. Years ago, when the Z was my daily driver, I was heading north on the freeway near Camp Pendelton and going with the flow of traffic. In fact I was in the middle of this particular pack of cars. Can you believe it, I was singled out and pulled over and ticketed for speeding. After leaving, the CHP left first, and about 5 miles down the road he had another RED car pulled over. I quess it's all a matter of tempting fate. Driving a red sporty car gives you the feeling similar to when you were little and you would take cookies from the cookie jar, then wondering if you will be cought! Oh well, you play you pay. The CHP that nabbed me last saturday was hiding out under a big shade tree with his radar gun. How petty, 67mph in a 55mph zone.....he probably spent the previous night on the couch because his wife wouldn't give it up!!! Or maybe he just couldn't get it up!!? Anyway I'm going to do the traffic school thing on the net, pay the ducks, and be done with it. Maybe I'll do a like research into radar absorbing paint for my Z. By the way, if your in the Santa Barbara area this saturday Steve from CCZCC is having a lunch gathering. Check out his post.

Lound Electric Fuel Pump.
You might want to think about mounting the fuel pump with shock mount pads. It worked for me. Also, I went from a diaphram type pump to a gear driven pump. Instead of a thump, thump, thump, I now have a whirrrrrrrrrr. With the isolation pads I only hear the pump just before ignition, then I hear only the sweet music of my SU'ed L28.

Hay Carl, I would have thought one of the Ozzy guys would have been all over this post but maybe it's just the time difference. Wouldn't it be a hoot to drive one of those babies? 600 HP worth of fun!!!

Fuel return line
Chino, If you want to stop by I can set up a lawn chair for you and I'll give you rags for polishing.....then you can spend all night looking and rubbing on my 240ZX! Just joking. I didn't know Santa was a Z guy! Doesn't he drive a sled with an 8RD power plant? Hay, thanks for the compliments on my L28. P.S. Tanny, yes I do drive it but never in bad weather. It's so much fun to drive it should be illegal. I was having so much fun last saturday afternoon, I got a ticket for it. Can you imagine, 67mph in a 55mph zone....I was just cruising along minding my own business when all of a sudden a CHP appeared out of know where with a radar gun. Damn, and I was the only person on the road until he showed up! I quess getting a ticket for 12mph over the limit is by far better than one for 30+mph over, cuffs, and a free ride to the station!!!

Marcus Ambrose
This is for all the Ozzy guys! Australian V8 Supercar Series......WOW, what a great race series!!! Does Marcus Ambrose and his team rock with that blue oval car or what??? This has got to be one of my favorite race series to watch. When I was just a teenager (over 30+ yrs. ago) I owned a 65 Mustang V8, so listening to these Supercars brings back some great memories of Ford V8 power. Its interesting to see a cool looking Ford with the Falcon name. Here in the states, Falcons were just these funny little Econo cars that have long disappeared. The Ozzy Falcons look pretty cool, kind of a Mustang type front end stuck on a sedan. What engines come in them stock? Anyway, you Australians have a killer race series going on down there. I think you're all have way too much fun! P.S. Gav, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that this race series is watched religiously by you. Am I right???

On PCH Near Malibu
Eric, I know exactly where you took that shot. I can't believe you drove it out onto the sand and got it out without getting stuck. I drive past that spot twice a week on my way to ride mountain bikes at Sycamore Canyon, around the corner just south of there. Very nice looking ride by the way!!!

Input shaft spline won't mate w/ clutch F54
Eric, I understand what you are going through. When I installed my late model 5 speed onto my L28 (on an engine stand) I had one hell of a time getting mine to go together also. I checked everything I could think of. I felt confident that all was correct so with everything in place and about 3/4" left (this is the position I could obtain by hand) to go, before obtaining contact between the trans and engine, I used through bolts to slowly and evenly suck it together. All along I was thinking this is not good but it did go together smoothly and I've been driving it for over a year now without a problem. I'm not suggesting this as a recommendation for assembly but, it worked for me. Just don't force anything, it could become costly. By the way I live in Santa Paula, less than an hour away from you. Check your private messages for my phone number.

Fuel return line
Tanny, On a stock fuel manifold for SU carbs, the pressure was obtained via a small metering hole (restriction) inside the cube like little block on the return line. When I redid my fuel manifold I did not use the stock setup because I just didn't like the way it looked, so I cut open the little block just to have a look. Sure enough, there was a smaller diameter hole within the little block. If you are interested in how mine turned out, visit my humble photo album, under 240ZX.
