Correct wheel size
I believe the offset you need for a stock setup with these wheels is "0" offset. With 40mm of offset, your wheels would sit inboard approximately 1 9/16"and possible tire to chassis rubbing would occur without using 40mm spacers to center the wheels/tires. Hope this helps you out! P.S. Stock wheels have "0" offset

Time for more HP
Good advise PrOx, What I'm really interested in is recommendations on an engine builder based on experiences with said engine builder. Thanks for the advise though!

Best way to power driving lights?
240ZMan, Your electrical hook-up is the way it should be done. This is the recommended method and is usually recommended by the driving light manufactures. The load you see on your amp meter is normal.

Time for more HP
Ha guys, Help me out here, please. I have fallen victim to the need for more horse power...imagine that! I live in California and want your opinions on who I should go to to have an engine built. I want a naturally aspirated engine and have been told that I can get a streetable 250HP engine, using triple webers on pump gas. What do you all recommend?

Relationary Status...
Ahhh, the joys of being single!!! Don't have to deal with PMS monthly, Do have a bank account, Don't have to ask if I can work on my Z car, Drinking beer and farting anytime is OK, Don't get ragged on for forgetting an aniversary, No messes to clean up but my own, I don't have to listen to...."You just don't spend enough time with me" (OK, sometimes I think I hear it coming from the garage if I haven't driven my Z in over a week!!!), I can take up the entire bed if I wish, The tiolet seat CAN be left up. My credit card resides in my wallet only, OK, I don't have daily access to the whisker bisket but, like my father once told me, "Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?" Should I continue on? Not!!!

2003 Z Nationals Brisbane
Excellent work! Nice detail on the front bracing. However, I think it would look much much better if it were under my hood!!! This has got to be one of my favorite Z's.

16 yr. olds 1st car
Shoot, when I was 16 there was no such thing as a Z car. The good part here is, you now own a Z car and on this site you will not feel like an outcast for owning one. We all love our Z's.....don't we!!? Congratulations!!!

help
If you could be a little more specific with the details on the car, it will be alot easier to make a reasonable questimate. Truthfully, there are just too many variables to answer that general of a question. Give as many details as you can possibly think of and let's try again!

Best sounding 240/280 exhaust
All interesting comments regarding various exhaust setups! When I got my Z it had 2.25" pipe with who knows who's muffler at the rear and it sounded OK but, at that point in time I was a newbie to the Z car scene (1983 time frame). Since then and I mean within the last three years, I've reworked the entire car. Currently I have the Super Turbo setup, 2.5", from MSA and I couldn't be happier with the sound and performance of the system. It is attached to a Jet Hot coated 6-2-1 header from MSA. Here is the interesting thing! I have read a lot of posts about the resonance problem at about 2500 rpm but I have not experienced that problem with my system. Is it possible that the additional layer of insulation I added to the interior has damped out that resonance.....maybe yes? Any comments?

carb pistons and idle tuning
Dan, I forgot one thing. The way the choke works on a SU is as follows. There is a jet assembly, metered orifice, that the needle assembly resides within. You already know how the needle moves but, when you pull the choke on it actually moves the jet down from the needle increasing the fuel flow but not the air....hence a richer mixture for start-up.

carb pistons and idle tuning
Dan, The piston in a SU carb is what lifts the needle assembly up, increasing fuel flow, when vaccum acts upon the top side of the piston. Basically, when you step on the throttle, a low pressure (vacuum) is created in the intake manifold and across the carb venturi. This low pressure pulls the piston assembly up, increasing the amount of fuel/air needed to increase engine RPM. In your case it sounds as though you my have a vacuum leak from removing the smog stuff....double check it! However, if it is not a vacuum leak issue you should go ahead and go through the process for a tune up. Adjust the valves, check the plugs/wires, set the timing, sync the carbs, etc, etc. Hope this helps you out a little.

Performance camshafts
Jason, When you installed the new cam, did you also replace the rockers/lash pads? If not, this may be your problem. It is always important to replace the rockers/lash pads when installing a new cam. So, without out replacing them, the old rockers/lash pads will cause excessive wear on a new cam due to the wear pattern already formed from the old cam. Some of the more experienced engine guys on this site may want to elaborate upon this statement.

Side of the 240Z
Mick, Love your Z!!! Isn't it interesting that you and I are on different sides of the planet and we have very similar tastes in how a Z should look! It's funny, in some of your pics the color looks red (kind of like mine) and in the sun it looks orange.....anyway, it looks great!!! OK, who put the dent in your front bumper?
