New Z owner
Gary, Welcome to the site. Some information that will be helpful to you......become familiar with the archive search function, as there is sooooo much information there. Basically, just about every question that has ever been asked about these sweet old Zs is documented within. Also, alot of folks who have the 260Z replace the flat top carbs with the round top carbs (70, 71, 72, and early 73). The round tops are a bolt on deal and perform much better than the flat top carbs. One last item.....update your personal profile so members know where you are located. Enjoy, Tom (240ZX)

Flat Top Mods?
The general concensus of most folks is to circular file the flat tops for a set of round tops.....very simple modification and does not involve dorking around with the internals of an ill designed carb.

Girl wants to sell her Civic - needs help..
Eric, The help she needs come in the form of a sack.........for her head!!! With a face like that, who needs a dog!!! However, I certainly didn't spend much time looking at her face!

Differential Housing
If there is gear lube around the outside top area of the diff housing it is likely coming from the diff vent.....pretty normal occurance if the diff is overfilled. IIRC, Datsun used a normal fiber type gasket between the cover and housing...no silicone sealant. Of course gear lube can leak from the pinion seal or either output shaft seal. Just make sure you clean all the old gear lube off the diff after you have done your work, so you will be able to see exactly where the leak is, if it rears it's ugly head again!

Any ideas?
Repairing the chip sounds like a lot of work! If the chip is in the threaded portion of the neck, where the cap screws in, you'll also have to replicate the threads as well! Why not get another dome and piston assembly to replace the chipped one. Note: As I recall the piston and dome are a matched set and should not be mixed with like parts, due to their specific tolerances.

Another problem!
Robert, Generally, folks with 260Zs put the flat-top carbs in the circular file and install a set of either 3 screw or 4 screw SUs. It is common knowledge in the world of Z cars that the flat-top carbs are.......well, shall we say JUNK! Sorry to deflate your ballon, but those are just the facts.

70 to 71 differences
Interseting.....My 1970 (s/n 02126) does have the evaporation tank and vent lines. Man, imagine the things that took place on the assembly line for the production of the early Zs......"well, partner-san, what changes do we have today?"LOL

Hi Eric, just curious....hows the 4 spd tranny holding up? And by the way, if Victor doesn't want the Pacifico beer, you can send it my way. By any chance are you heading up to the historical races this tear? Tom

Sport Z Mag. Closing Down
Sad news about Sport Z magazine. I did subscribe for a year but, based on the content of the magazine I decided to discontinue my subscription. To me, most of the content was best suited for the newbie who has little or no knowledge about the Z car. For those who have been involved with the Z car for some time, there was little offered that wasn't already common knowledge. Now, the actual effort the magazine staff put toward the magazine is certainly commendable and should be praised! But with internet access and websites like this one, Hybridz, and technical sites related, one would be hard pressed to compete with a magazine. Also, since the Z car crowd is essentially a very small niche in the world of car enthusists, the expected level of subscribers is also likely to be very small. Sometimes things just don't work out no matter how well planned or exicuted. Anyway, I wish the staff the best on their new endeavor.

MSA Super Turbo muffler?
I happen to have that exhaust system on my 1970 and like the tone as well as the amplitude. Mind you, some may think it's a little loud but, I think it's just perfect....for me anyway! It does exhibit the 2000 to 2500 rpm resonance but I never am in the range while playing in my Z....just pass though it during shifts. It will get a slight bit louder as time passes. Mines been on for just over 4 years and personally it's still not too loud. Bottom line......it sounds like a sports car!

Z Corral parking @ Monterey Historical Races
Hi everyone, Got a call last night from Mark Davey, with Z owners of Northern California (ZONC.org), reminding me about the upcoming historical races in Monterey California Aug 19th. As usual there will be corral parking for numerous marks. To actually establish corral parking, 30 spots must be confimed for a given mark (Z's). So, now is the time to start making your plans. More info can be had @ ZONC.org or give Mark a call at (775)267-0475 to make revervations. Last year was my first time for the Historical races and Z corral parking....had a really good time. Drove up with Eric and a couple of his partners. Of course we had to do all the twisty back roads on the way up! Hope we can get some Z'ers to drive up as a group again this year...it should be a hoot! Tom (240ZX)

WT HELP Grinding/Whiny/Ticking/Thumping
John, Is it possible the noise you're hearing is the fuel pump. Electric diaphram type fuel pumps make that sort of sound normally. Plus if you are at a complete stop and you here these sounds, it's certainly not coming from the drive systyem as it is at rest when you are stopped.

Cable Holder
Interesting.....first time I've ever seen one! I always wondered what that additional mounting boss, on the cam cover, was for. Tom

Replacing Series 1 Ashtray
Stephen, Nice to see another low number 70 Z car guy! I wish you luck on trying to find the correct ashtray......I gave up my search as I never ran across one in over five years. Mine has a small piece of the right hand lower corner lip broken off. I live with it however....not too visible unless you really look close. Good luck though! Tom

SUs Vs Tripple webers
As most people know, SUs work very well on modified L6 engines. Rebello Racing has an L6 engine w/SUs that puts out approximately 285 HP @ the crank. Of course the SUs have been opened up to 50mm.
