Hey guys, I want to see if I can find out who was the original owner of my 1970 240Z (HLS3002126). I'm pretty certain it was a SoCal car from day one. And to the best of my knowledge, I am only the second owner....since 1983. If any of you have experience in this area, please throw me a bone if you will! I'll see what I can find in the archives too. Thanks, ahead of time! Tom
  4. You may also find that the U-joints on the steering shaft are worn, causing play in the steering. These U-joints are a propritary item not available to the public.....imagine that!!? Best bet is to find a good steering shaft assembly at a Pick-A-Parts yard.....obviously from an early Z. How do I know this...? Tom
  5. With an appropriate offset, via custom fabricated wheel spacers, I've managed to get 17x8 (F) and 17x9 ® on my 240, with stock fender wells, without issue. However, my rear tire size is limited without raising the chassis. Arne is so right on the tire to fender gap! Take a look at my 240 in the members gallery under 240ZX. What do you think? Tom
  6. Not many players as of yet......!!!
  7. Hmmmmmmmm.....very inviting idea!!! Just might show up for the fun. According to many sportbike riders, the CHP will be out in force especially since the crest has been reopened through to Wrightwood. Tom

Well guys and gals, I recently made a contribution to stimulate the economy! I've purchased a new toy.....2009 Yamaha R1 sportbike (white/red). All I can say so far is WOW!!!! This is my fifth street bike and R1's first real ride is this Saturday...can hardly wait. The last time I was this excited about a piece of machinery was the day I got my 240 back on the road. Just thought I''d share this with you all. Tom

Personally, I think any race style wheel set looks appropriate on the old Zs, or any sportscar for that matter......makes it look like a sportscar! However, the 8 spoke style really looks period correct to me. Tom

As beandip said.....or if you insist on the 5 spd, install diffy gearing that is appropriate for the 5 spd (3.90 or 4.10). Tom

I think if you do a little bit of searching in the archives, you'll find the information you are looking for.....this subject has been addressed numerous times in the past. Happy hunting!
  12. Regarding holding up the SU slides (pistons if you will).....to save yourself added work, remove the air filter or filters and prop the slide up with properly sized pieces of soft material (wood, plastic, cardboard, etc., etc.). Tom
  13. When I read the title on your post, it sparked my interest! However, I was a bit disappointed upon reading the complete post.....I thought maybe we were going to hear about you finding a long forgotten stash of money, or something along those lines! LOLLOL Tom
  14. I see that you have a 1971 Z. When I encountered similar issues on my 1970, I finally decided to replace the complete turn signal/switch assembly on the steering column....all my intermitent electrical issue went away! Just a thought to ponder. These old switch assemblies do wear out! Tom

IIRC, the metric 10.9 bolts John is referring to are on par with an SAE grade 8 shear style bolt....very strong!!!! Tom

Wheel offset.......half way between the outer/inner bead of the wheel would be "0" offset. If the mounting flange is inboard of the center you'll have positive offset and if the mounting flange is outboard of the center you'll have negative offset. Now its just a matter of measuring! Hope this helps you to understand wheel offset. Tom

Don't forget about PRECISION GEAR as a source for R200 clutch type LSD carriers. Very reasonable price as well. Check out thier website. Tom
  21. My little red toy resides in a two car garage and shares space with two mountain bikes, a Husqvarna TE510, a small motorcycle trailer, and the usual garage type stuff. I've had to be pretty efficient with space to accomodate all my toys and still have room to work on them.....and I do spend a fair amount of time in my garage! Tom
  22. The fuel vapor line does not require a vaccum source, it just used the stock air clear as a filter....it basically is a vent for the fuel tank! Tom
  23. Regarding the line off the cam cover, many folk and myself included just remove the line and install a small K&N filter on the 90 degree elbow coming out on the cam cover. The one line you can't identify (under coil as you said) goes back to the vapor tank near the fuel spout. The two carb veny lines can be addressed in a number of ways. Personnally, I joined these vent lines to a common tube vented to atmosphere. (See my photo gallery) Tom

What do I think? I think if you like it, thats all that should matter.....each to their own likings! Tom
  25. Just be aware that the pickup line in the tank does not have a screen over it and small bits of debris can block fuel from passing. Tom
