  1. One area of concern, at least I think its important, is the thickness of the flanges......the existing intake manifolds are X thick and the MSA header flange is X thickness. Ideally, they should be the same so when secured and torqued, the fixing fastener pull straight. Obviously, if the flanges are of different thicknesses, the fixing fastener will not pull straight. When I installed my MSA (coated version) 6-3-2 headers on my 240, the flanges were slightly different so I machined reliefs on the fixing washers to acommodate the difference. Just some food for thought! Tom

    I stand corrected!

IIRC, there is also a diode that is required in the circuit, other wise you wouldn't be able to turn the car off! There have been posts on this issue! The diode may be purchased from any electronics store. Tom
  4. If anyone is interested in aerodynamics testing on the Z car, HybridZ has a forum dedicated to just that! Tom

Of course this is just my opinion but, the quietest pumps are of the gear, vane or G-rotor type. The noisy ones are of the diaphram type. I've been using a Mallory electric pump for years and it is only noticable just before the engine fires...can't hear it while driving and its not rubber mounted. Tom

I've got the location info and have been contemplating going but, not to show. I will of course be driving the Z. The odds are good I'll be there and will be wearing a name tag as well! Tom
  7. I agree with adamr....make it your own Z. I also have a low VIN 1970 240Z (HLS3002126) and have done many many modifications to the suspension, drive train, brakes, etc., etc. However, I have not done any modifications to the actual chassis so, if I was so inclined to turn it back to bone stock (highly unlikely!), it would be possible. Do lots of research about all that can and has been done to these awesome cars, then do what your heart tells you!!! Its only time and $$$....and the last time I checked, we can't take them with us, if you know what I mean. Tom
  8. Just a personal opinion here........both Zs look great however, if they sat just another inch to inch and a half lower they would look fantastic. The tire/wheels would then look appropriate in the wheel openings. Again, just my opinion. Take a look at my Z (listed under members rides) and you'll quickly understand where I'm coming from. By the way, the Panasports and the Rota wheels look so classic on the Z. Tom

If you are so inclined.........however, I once thought about fender mounted rear view mirrors until I realized they would be right in the way if you ever did work under the hood! Tom

Based on your explaination, I would say your valve guides may be worn enough to pass oil. Was the smoke blue or white? Tom

Yah, there are a couple of avenues to take for an ignition upgrade but, any of them are better than POINTS....that's my opinion anyway! I choose the Mallory UniLite set-up but, the Pertronics set-up is just fine and I think is the least expensive way to go. Tom
  12. Sure would be nice if someone had a source for new catch mechanisms (lower half of latching assemblies). Seems they're as rare as hen's teeth! Tom
  13. I am sure you want only one bump stop per strut. If you do as shown in your picture, you will have little if any compression (bump) travel. Tom

You guys are right on the install of the muffler. I've also got the MSA exhaust system on my 1970 and it's a simple matter of correct muffler positioning. If installed incorrectly, the muffler will hang down....when install correctly, the muffler is tucked upward and doesn't hang down. Tom
  15. There is going to be a slightly less restriction with the ITG filters but, it's highly likey you will not require any SU tweeks, unless you were running very lean before the switch.....that my best guess! Tom

I believe so! At least on my 240 it has.......at speeds above, let's say 60mph! Tom

Just a suggestion......your vacuum operated valve just might be worn out, causing additional resistance to actuate valve. Tom

You may consider calling Dave Rebello @ REBELLO RACING, northern California! For about $6k he can provide you with a naturally aspirated L6 w/285 HP. Check out his website! Tom

Hey Julio, In regards to the rubber bushings......with all the suspension work you are undertaking, I suspect you will discover that the poly bushings will soon be in order! The poly bushings will make a big difference in how a car responds to driver input and feedback........a couple of examples; turn-in and stability under heavy braking. Some people will say they give you a harsh ride but, I don't buy into that belief because I believe the springs, dampers, and other elements dictate ride harshness. Anyway, it looks as though you are doing a really nice job of freshening up your Z. All I will say is.....your going to love it when its done!!!!! Tom

As a matter of fact, there is something you can do!!! Basically, replace your 2400cc block and head with the 2800cc block and head. Remove the fuel injection (intake runners) on the 2800cc engine and relpace it with the intake/carbs from the 2400cc engine. Of course you can use the distributor, starter motor, tranny, and such from the 2400cc motor. All should bolt right up. You will end up with an engine that supplies you with a bit more torque than the 2400cc engine did. This is a common upgrade! The 2800cc will look essentially identical to the 2400cc except for the I.D. numbers on the head and block. Hope this help you out some. As long as you don't want EFI, the 2800cc engine is a simple replacement for the 2400cc engine. Tom

Congrats Kevan! I as well have a 1970 manufactured in March....however, my baby came off the assembly line 64 cars after yours (s/n HLS3002126). It's a small Z-world isn't it? Tom
  24. Hi Rod, Just as a suggestion to a new guy on the site, try out the search function! It has answers to just about any question you might think of regarding these old beauties....it a great place to start your research! By the way, welcome aboard and enjoy!!! Tom
  25. Glad to see you folks still have a good head of steam going on the show! By the way, what time does the show start....didn't see a time anywhere in your info! Tom
