Laguna Seca
Just out of interest, are any members from the SoCal area attending the races at Laguna Seca the end of this month? If so, it might be fun to drive up as a group of Z's and enjoy the great back roads on the way up. Anyone?

nice car but way over priced
Wow, I didn't know the Z's came with ABS, power steering, air conditioning, leather seats, ect., etc., as standard items!!! My bid wouldn't even be 1/2 of what is being asked....way over priced and the seller must be smoking some pretty serious buds IMO!!! I think I'll repaint my 1970 and put it up for let's say......$35,000.00 yah, that sounds about right!

Photos from Z Nationals 2005 Australia Goulburn
Lots of great pics Gav!!! Some really nice engine shots as well! Nice to see some real (Red) Z cars......must be a universal thing! In a couple of weeks we are having the West Coast Nationals in Orange County (MSA). This year I'm just going as a spectator and not entering my Z in the show.....just getting tired of showing up at 5:00 AM, waiting in a line thats got to be at least a mile long, and then after making prior arrangements (as requested by MSA) to park with a particular group of Z folks, they force you to park way out in the south fourty......it just sucks. Don't get me wrong, the show is always very happening...just don't need to deal with the early morning chaos! Thanks for providing the pics Gav

What can cause a condenser to fail?
Maybe It's nothing you've done, maybe it's just gone south (failed)! It's just an electrical component and they are susceptible to failure. Have you installed a new condensor (with new points, adjusted), to see if that fixes your problem? You didn't mention how old or how long these points and condensor have been in service. Just a thought!

Have you tried contacting "ZTherapy" ...the SU experts?

All copper header collector gasket??
Eric, if the mating surfaces between your collector/tailpipe are really flat then I would suspect a solid copper gasket will work well. Also, being solid copper, you can reuse it by annealing it (it will bring it back to a soft condition). This is done by heating it with a torch until it just turns cherry red, then quickly quench it in cool water....done!

Not enough clutch adjustment
Gawd, this brings back some memories I'd rather forget! It will help if you can employ a contortionist or a midget, to crawl up under the dash for you. Space is certainly limited!!!

Head Identification
The N47 is probably the least desireable L6 head.....spend the money on your current head!

Problems with MSA SS Clutch Line?
Lance, sometimes being old (with experience) has it's advantages! I couldn't agree more. I'll be 54 years young this November.

Problems with MSA SS Clutch Line?
Lance hits the nail on the head....good call Lance! While we're talking about fittings, I always get a chuckle when I see folks using teflon tape on the threads of flared fittings or O-ring fittings.....apparently they don't know or recognize what type fitting they are dealing with...and then wonder why It's leaking!!? Also, when it comes to using teflon tape on tappered threads (pipe threads) aways start the tape 3 threads back from the 1st thread. This will ensure that you don't get the teflon material into what ever you are sealing....an old aircraft practice.

Z's in winter
Hi Vicky, I agree about the painting....some people's taste are a bit different (being very polite). I happen to talk to the owner of this Z when I attended the 30th anneversary show in Las Vegas 2000. Now if you ignore the painting by closing the hood and ignore the interior (nothing special) then you can appreciate the body/paint on the exterior of this Z. It was absolutely beautiful......most all the seams had been filled, the drip rail over the doors had been shaved off, and the finish was as nice as I've seen. Just beautful...... P.S. After meeting the owner, I would have never quessed a guy like this would have that sort of painting under the hood of a Z!!!

Head Identification
TBK1, Does the head also have the shrouds (metal sleeves) inside the exhaust ports? I believe the head you currently have will flow better than that N47.

if you designed the new z...
For a visual redesign of the 350Z....I believe one would need a clean sheet of paper. Sorry, I'm not a big fan of the TOAD Z!!! My quess is, if one were behind the wheel of a 350Z and exploring it's limits, you'd be just fine....why? Because you wouldn't be able to see how ugly the exterior is... !!!

Head Identification
As mentioned in the previous posts, the head ID is located near the #1 plug on a raised flat bossed area. Does this head have square or round exhaust ports?

Thinking of installing an 81-83 5 speed
Marty, I did this conversion and purchased new parts....everything inside the bell housing. They were all ordered to fix the 81 to 83 5 speed tranny. Regarding the slave cylinder....I don't think it matters as long as the parts interface correctly (outside end of clutch fork and the push rod in the slave cylinder). I think the key is the TO brg collar, as Carl mentioned. Hope this clears it up!

New door panels
Looks like a really clean machine you have there! Not my personal favorite color interior, but excellent just the same.

Thinking of installing an 81-83 5 speed
Thanks Carl......mmmmmmmmm yah, the right TO brg collar....not the fork!!! I was having a senior moment....sorry guys!

removing mental trim or not
I don't care where you're from......that's a funny joke right there!!!!!

Would Like to hear your thoughts...
Scotty, Don't let your emotions drive this purchase!!!!!!!!!! If the 280Z has a rust problem around the wheel wells, you can bet it has alot more in other places. Take a look around the battery box area, all the rocker panels for the paint blistering from the hidden rust underneath, open the hatch and look around this area, look under the car, look under the carpet and insulation on the floor boards. These old Z's are prone to rust, especially cars from back east or from rainy areas. $3600.00 is far too much to pay for a rust bucket...Just my thoughts on your potential purchase.

removing mental trim or not
Mental.......Gee I don't believe Z cars ever came stock with mentals! :stupid:

Thinking of installing an 81-83 5 speed
Marty, If I remember correctly, you will want to use the 78 5spd tranny clutch fork assembly in your conversion...not the 71 4spd fork assy. I believe the 4 spd fork assy (in the 5spd) does not provide enough travel for proper clutch disengagement. Come on Victor L...help me out here!!!
