Chino, If you want to stop by I can set up a lawn chair for you and I'll give you rags for polishing.....then you can spend all night looking and rubbing on my 240ZX! Just joking. I didn't know Santa was a Z guy! Doesn't he drive a sled with an 8RD power plant? Hay, thanks for the compliments on my L28. P.S. Tanny, yes I do drive it but never in bad weather. It's so much fun to drive it should be illegal. I was having so much fun last saturday afternoon, I got a ticket for it. Can you imagine, 67mph in a 55mph zone....I was just cruising along minding my own business when all of a sudden a CHP appeared out of know where with a radar gun. Damn, and I was the only person on the road until he showed up! I quess getting a ticket for 12mph over the limit is by far better than one for 30+mph over, cuffs, and a free ride to the station!!!

This is for all the Ozzy guys! Australian V8 Supercar Series......WOW, what a great race series!!! Does Marcus Ambrose and his team rock with that blue oval car or what??? This has got to be one of my favorite race series to watch. When I was just a teenager (over 30+ yrs. ago) I owned a 65 Mustang V8, so listening to these Supercars brings back some great memories of Ford V8 power. Its interesting to see a cool looking Ford with the Falcon name. Here in the states, Falcons were just these funny little Econo cars that have long disappeared. The Ozzy Falcons look pretty cool, kind of a Mustang type front end stuck on a sedan. What engines come in them stock? Anyway, you Australians have a killer race series going on down there. I think you're all have way too much fun! P.S. Gav, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that this race series is watched religiously by you. Am I right???

  6. Eric, I understand what you are going through. When I installed my late model 5 speed onto my L28 (on an engine stand) I had one hell of a time getting mine to go together also. I checked everything I could think of. I felt confident that all was correct so with everything in place and about 3/4" left (this is the position I could obtain by hand) to go, before obtaining contact between the trans and engine, I used through bolts to slowly and evenly suck it together. All along I was thinking this is not good but it did go together smoothly and I've been driving it for over a year now without a problem. I'm not suggesting this as a recommendation for assembly but, it worked for me. Just don't force anything, it could become costly. By the way I live in Santa Paula, less than an hour away from you. Check your private messages for my phone number.

Tanny, On a stock fuel manifold for SU carbs, the pressure was obtained via a small metering hole (restriction) inside the cube like little block on the return line. When I redid my fuel manifold I did not use the stock setup because I just didn't like the way it looked, so I cut open the little block just to have a look. Sure enough, there was a smaller diameter hole within the little block. If you are interested in how mine turned out, visit my humble photo album, under 240ZX.

I believe the offset you need for a stock setup with these wheels is "0" offset. With 40mm of offset, your wheels would sit inboard approximately 1 9/16"and possible tire to chassis rubbing would occur without using 40mm spacers to center the wheels/tires. Hope this helps you out! P.S. Stock wheels have "0" offset

Good advise PrOx, What I'm really interested in is recommendations on an engine builder based on experiences with said engine builder. Thanks for the advise though!

240ZMan, Your electrical hook-up is the way it should be done. This is the recommended method and is usually recommended by the driving light manufactures. The load you see on your amp meter is normal.

Ha guys, Help me out here, please. I have fallen victim to the need for more horse power...imagine that! I live in California and want your opinions on who I should go to to have an engine built. I want a naturally aspirated engine and have been told that I can get a streetable 250HP engine, using triple webers on pump gas. What do you all recommend?

Ahhh, the joys of being single!!! Don't have to deal with PMS monthly, Do have a bank account, Don't have to ask if I can work on my Z car, Drinking beer and farting anytime is OK, Don't get ragged on for forgetting an aniversary, No messes to clean up but my own, I don't have to listen to...."You just don't spend enough time with me" (OK, sometimes I think I hear it coming from the garage if I haven't driven my Z in over a week!!!), I can take up the entire bed if I wish, The tiolet seat CAN be left up. My credit card resides in my wallet only, OK, I don't have daily access to the whisker bisket but, like my father once told me, "Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?" Should I continue on? Not!!!

If you could be a little more specific with the details on the car, it will be alot easier to make a reasonable questimate. Truthfully, there are just too many variables to answer that general of a question. Give as many details as you can possibly think of and let's try again!

All interesting comments regarding various exhaust setups! When I got my Z it had 2.25" pipe with who knows who's muffler at the rear and it sounded OK but, at that point in time I was a newbie to the Z car scene (1983 time frame). Since then and I mean within the last three years, I've reworked the entire car. Currently I have the Super Turbo setup, 2.5", from MSA and I couldn't be happier with the sound and performance of the system. It is attached to a Jet Hot coated 6-2-1 header from MSA. Here is the interesting thing! I have read a lot of posts about the resonance problem at about 2500 rpm but I have not experienced that problem with my system. Is it possible that the additional layer of insulation I added to the interior has damped out that resonance.....maybe yes? Any comments?

  25. Dan, I forgot one thing. The way the choke works on a SU is as follows. There is a jet assembly, metered orifice, that the needle assembly resides within. You already know how the needle moves but, when you pull the choke on it actually moves the jet down from the needle increasing the fuel flow but not the air....hence a richer mixture for start-up.
