Test Fit
Usually those mesh type mags have a silver beauty ring, not all black. I'd say, go around to different wheel shops and try some discount wheel stores, about 3 years ago I picked up a set (14's) for $250CAD (clearance sale) at a place called dollar Tire in Edmonton. Those mags are popular on AE86's and other older RWD Jap cars! They shouldn't be very expensive unless its a top brand name or something. I think 16's were used on older Transam's, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps, Alex It's not whether you win or lose, but its how you play the game!

240z vs 280z
In my opinion the 70-72 Z just looks cooler and more classic, the 280's looks too modern. Alex

gotta sell my 69 fairlady
I don't mean to offend, but I think that a 5spd wasn't offered in the original 240z because the North American Market at the time swayed more towards Automatic. And the manual transmission cars of the late 60's were either 3 or 4 spd. The other reason for offering a 5 spd was fuel economy. Back then in North America fuel economy wasn't a big issue. Alex

toyota engine compatability
I've got a 92' mustang 302 in my Rx-7 with a 5spd and it is rocket, code named DEATH. My cousin and I did the conversion in early 2000. With the right exhaust a 302 sound awsome. She's running pretty much stock, all she has is a huge K@N, good exhaust and a hurst short shifter. Traction is an issue, with slicks she runs very high 12's. Beleive it or not. The engine is fuel injected and I'm running two ecu's. All in all it was a fairly inexpensive conversion, granted we did about 90% of the work ourselves. All this talk of nissan and toyota engines I kinda forgot about ford, not as reliable but still a hoot. Something else to consider. An early Z weighs even less than an Rx-7. A V8 will kick it up a couple a notches. Just my 2 cents Alex

toyota engine compatability
I'm sorry JZM, I didn't mean to insult your experience. I didn't mean that all toyota engines are the same, I was just referring to the engines that were mentioned before i.e 1jz, 2jz, and the list goes on. In my experience modern toyota engines are generally more reliable than there nissan counterparts. P.S. The only substitute for displacement is technology.(even though I have a V8 RX7)

toyota engine compatability
I'm a huge Z and L-series fan, but I have to say that a toyota engine will outlast a nissan engine any day of the week and still make Big HP reliably. The only Nissan engines that compare are the Rb's, and they way more expensive depending on which engine. No offence to anyone. Alex

Police Version
I saw that awhile ago, I never really gave it a second thought. It would be cool to drive around. I'm guessing that the decals were tossed.

Your thoughts wanted, preservation/restoration?
Every individual is different! Its all a matter of what you want to do with your car and how you want it to look, and lets not forget how your car makes you feel. Its as simple and as complicated as that. Just my 2 cents. Alex

I'd like some input...
Carl Beck has some good advice. Back in 2001 I bought a 75' 280z from this guy for about $150CAD because the car had been stored on his property for 5 years and then abandoned by its owner. This car was infact an unfinished project and was not run in all that time. At a glance the car looked almost rust free but after my dad (master mechanic) inspected the car properly and showed me all the rust we decided to look for a better car. Hell there was rust all over the damn place. Edmonton roads (salted in Winter) are not forgiving to Z's. Its your decision, and you should make it wisely. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck, Alex

Starting project, Which engine to use?
You could built up the 280ZXT and then add NOS. Alex
-
Original or turbo??
On paper a 280ZXT donor car is a good idea for the engine, ecu, parts etc. You could probably get the car cheap enough as well. Also remember that the car has to be at least 22 years old and is not in the best of condition, you can't be certain that the engine is still tip top. You could just do the swap and the engine might run fine for a while and then decide to take a huge dump on you. You should go the safer route. Locate a donor car, pull the engine and have it rebuilt. It would be an added expense but if you're gonna put alot of money in your car you might as well do it right and get good value for you money. No offence to Kmack. PEACE, Alex

how do i go fast??!!?!?!?
Hi Guys I am also new to the club and have owned Z's and various other sports cars. I would also agree with John Coffey. If you're going to do mdoifications then do it right. I have an 88 Rx7 with a 93 Mustang V8 in it and swap was alot of work. After the car was runnning there were alot of other little things that needed attention, even with little things the dollars add up. A V8 swap done properly will be expensive even if you can do alot of the work yourself. An RB swap done properly is also gonna cost BIG dollars and be tones of work. After all if all you wanna do is kick a little honda arse you don't have to go WAY WAY out there. And remember that you should always go fast, safe and reliable, as this is your first car and daily driver. Once you get more driving (racing) experience then by all means go for the BIG HP. Thats just my 2 cents worth, no offence to anyone. Always drive safely and buck up, Alex G
