Yes. Alot of Z's are running 15 & 16 inch wheels, due to the lack of 14 inch tires available. I believe all the 1st & 2nd generation Z car wheels used the same bolt pattern & zero offset. You can also find a variety of aftermarket used on Ebay etc, or Centerlines, Panasports..... Try doing a search of this site to find a pile of previous posts about wheels, tires, rims etc. HTH, Jeremiah

Those interior parts are easy- you can find plenty used from the rusty sitting Z's, or buy new. Do a quick ebay search on "datsun" & you'll find new carpet for about $175, or MSA or VB or even JC Whitney... New door panels can be pricey- try to find some from a parts car, or again, Ebay. Seats would be a matter of preference- you can buy a used one (or set), get racing seats, swap from a junkyard- plenty of options. Do you have catalogs from Motorsport Auto and Victoria British, or have you looked at links from this site to parts suppliers? HTH, Jeremiah

Yep, Charlie's the man! Plus a US dollar is worth what, 20 bucks canadian??!! <JK> The exchange rate does help though. I agree to check the frame rails thoroughly, don't just start hacking- the angles/channels that run from the floors up to the frame rails can be easily fabricated by a decent welder. (as i remember, if you order frame rails it is only the straight steel beam thats in the engine compartment, not the angle back to the floors) A couple hints- a plasma cutter makes it alot cleaner & easier to remove the old- but be aware that depending on the model year, the fuel lines may run down one of the channels in the floor!!! Damn near lost my pal's 260 when we discovered THAT the hard way! Its a good idea to have a cutter in one hand, fire extinguishing plan in the other:stupid: Good luck, JA

my 73 had a very dim driver's side lamp. I spent about 4 hours removing the assembly from behind, going through 25 yrs of crud, and came up with nothing! I then messed with the fuses, and found that one partially contacted:stupid:  Replaced that fuse, and it was better. So i spent 4 hours & 5 minutes on a 5 minute problem!! Live & learn, at least we spent some quality time together!! Try switching the fuses & see if the problem moves with the fuse, otherwise look for a partially dirty/corroded ground wire. Good luck, Jeremiah

yep, that's the BR. Remember. if the car will only run with the key in the start position, the ballast resistor is the culprit. Glad it worked out quickly for you, i spent days and $ on a new switch too...:stupid:

Another idea- the auto cars may be wired such that it won't start with the car in a drive gear. Perhaps thats another thing to check out? I'd still check out the previous comments first tho.. Good luck!

I'd say it could be easily worth $1500, providing it is not a frankenstein-disaster-project. Can you post pics to give folks a better idea? Did you inquire about the swap and history? Check for rust in framerails, floors, under battery? Try searching posts on the site about your concerns, alot of this has been addressed before. Good luck, Jeremiah

I like this idea of "seeing" one another once in awhile! I've been lucky enough to meet 2Manyz's, Ken Lewis, and Baddog in person, among others- this new-fangled internet thingie is just so cool... The paint is 2001 Dodge Viper Yellow, for those interested- i love it, but so do the police:cry:

Ed, Ed, Ed, I have been holding back with that answer, thinking I may come across as a wise-arse. (Actually i was waiting to tell Dave in person at our next club meeting) Funny thing is , that is exactly how i fixed the Oxygen sensor light in my old subaru. If you use sissors, it actually looks fairly decent.:stupid:

Hi Sharonna, welcome to the club! Have you checked out the local clubs yet? Check out www.zccr.net (Z Car Club of Rochester) I think you can link to your local club from there (ZANY -Z assoc of NY) or ZACNY (central NY) I know there are a few later Z owners in our local (NY) clubs, maybe they'll help out a damsel in distress... Hey everyone, In case anyone is curious as to who your ever chatting with, i just posted a pic of my wfie, myself, and my 260 in the gallery. If i figure it out, i'll attach the photo here, otherwise, see my gallery.... Glad to "know" you all! Jeremiah
  13. Hi all- Just looking for opinions/experiences with the various aftermarket electronic ignitions available.. Crane, MSD- Anyone have an opinion as to which version/model is preferable for a stock 240/260? I have a late 260 with the stock electronic ignition, as well as a 73 auto that has a dual point distributor (which i understand complicates the matter) Howsabout keeping the tach functional? I assume i would opt for the $109 unit from Motorsport, but would appreciate any advise- Thanks!! Jeremiah

Well, it is my understanding that the snowflake wheels were only offered in 1981 on the Turbo's- making them somewhat rare... That said, i guess they are like anything else, worth whatever the market will bear. Maybe try checking zcar.com where more zx/t info abounds? Someone in our local club www.zccr.net was looking for those awhile back i think- i'll broadcast a message to members about your post. HTH, Jeremiah
  15. Like JC said, there is a "donate" button here. As an alternative i got Mike's mailing address & sent him some cash awhile back as well. So i paypal'd enough for the microfiche CD, then sent some greenbacks that the wife wouldn't be aware of/have reason to go crazy over. I'm sure Mike would give you an address, or email me & i can send it to anyone willing to donate (with Mike's approval of course!!) And to Mike- Thanks for getting the mailing list back!!! I was missing all my craZy friends... Jeremiah

Have you looked at catalogs from Motorsport Auto or Victoria British? They both carry replacement panels, you may try Zedfindings www.datsunzparts.com - Charlie is in Ontario & may be cheaper. Don't know about installation, sorry. HTH

Hey Ed, Welcome to NY! Too bad it's raining & crappy this weekend:cry: It's been dry & sunny for months- go figure.. Yep, leaves are still on, hardly beginning to change color. Which reminds me, ZCCR will have a fall leaf cruise this month, before putting the Z's to bed. Come on over- only about an hour, and we end up at Brock Yates Cannonball Run Pub. Hope your trip goes well, JA

As far as the louvers go, I've read that some do not require drilling to mount. That said, my 73 had one when i bought it- that attatches using 4 screws into the top of the hatch  , then clamps at each side at the bottom. I guess the purpose was so that you could unhook the bottom, pivot it up and clean the hatch glass. I removed it- it rattled too much & was a general annoyance to me.. For the bumper rubber- try asking someone with a parts car, maybe post an ad in the "wanted" forum here; may try looking at the classifieds at www.zcar.com too. Have you tried a junkyard yet? HTH, Jeremiah

Well, gotta be honest ....the tires "look" okay, but i couldn't begin to tell you the actual pressure:stupid: I also wondered if i may have lost some swaybar mount or somesuch- heard some of us have torn those loose when driving these cars the way they like it:classic: My 73 had 205/60's (or was it 215/60?) That would squeal if you really really tried, but nothing like this.. Oh well- nothing like an excuse to go putter / test drive over and over. It'll beat stripping kitchen cabinets this weekend. Would one of you talk to my wife about this...? JA

Hi Everyone, Well, as winter approaches in NY, I am getting the most out of my Z (260) before it goes into hibernation. I have noticed this week, that i am losing traction & sliding the rear around corners more than usual- specifically, i go around a 90 degree corner near my house- in 2nd gear at about 30mph (3000rpm). I accelerate through the bend, and the tires really begin to squeal the back starts to come around if i keep the pedal down. I also noticed that on the offramp from the expressway- about a 210 degree loop- the same happens in 3rd at 55-60mph (but that road surface just changed from blacktop to concrete). The tires are Firestone F570's 195/70/14 the PO mounted and have only about 4000 miles on them. Maybe i should move to 205 or 215's?? (more rubber on the road) Or change to a "stickier" street tire? It's not like i just dropped in a V8, i did pull the smog pump & remove the emmisions and manifold coolant lines last week & went to the early balance tube, but i can't believe that would lose enough weight or gain HP to cause these symptoms! Maybe i'm just driving like an idiot:cross-eye ! Well, thanks for any input, and cross your fingers that it doesn't snow in NY this year.... Jeremiah

  24. AxtellZ replied to 240zgirl's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Actually, it depends on the 74... is it "early" or "late"? The late 260 has 280 bumpers & turn signals in the grill- the front valance & corners beneath the headlight nacelles are different. The other parts are the same, with the exception of the fenders- they fit but require minimal modification to mount correctly. Hope that helps, JA :classic:
