  3. 318 + 340 heads, etc. Mopar magazine just built up a 318 to 500hp for $500... Vicky, it's not a done deal(the conversion), but for an almost free motor, its coming to live at my house. Besides, my 73 is a NY victim, already new metal all over- it's no concours car to get chopped. Doesn't everyone "need" a third toy?

  5. Hi all, Well, as it approaches Winter here in NY- i am planning my upgrades to do during the Z-hibernation. Brakes is the plan. Toyota calipers on the front, SS lines, and new rotors since mine are warped/thin. (Wayne Karnes diatribe on rear disks talked me out of that-for now..) I don't want to use spacers, so am opting to use stock rotors (this is my 260) rather than switch to the 300 rotors. So.... I have found "Powerslot Cross-drilled Rotors" for $51.99US each at www.brakewarehouse.com (as opposed to $199/set at MSA) Does anyone here use them, had them, liked them, hated them, etc??? I know i could get stock replacements cheaper, but i want the most "bang for the buck", albeit a somewhat cheap buck.. FWIW, anyone else looking to do this- that is the cheapest i found those rotors, they also sell the "slotted" for $64. www.discountautoparts.com has loaded toyota 4x4 calipers for about $75 each-core included. and MSA is cheapest for SS brakelines at $68 a set. Anyone have an opinion, yea or nay, about cross-drilled or slotted rotors? This is a driver, no track or autocross (yet...) Thanks, Jeremiah

    Just unbolt it. Pay attention to which way the metal "frame" around is situated, for reassembly. And make sure you keep the steering wheel in the same postion, or you may put it back together with the horn button upside down...

    Dunno the exact volume, but they are self-adjusting. Just top them off, then lift the needle assembly as high as it goes- any excess will spill out and be burned up.

    All as stated above, and in checking the carbs- check the float level setting specifically. That could itself be causing fuel starvation on one of the carbs.

    Oh, about judging: usually a 300 point system. 100pt for exterior 100 for interior 100 for engine compartment You start out at 100 points (10 points in 10 categories), then deductions are taken..

    Hi Ed. I *may* have a copy of the ZCCA rules i can mail you. As far as i remember- daily driver can be anything- hood cannot be open for judging though, and may require 75K on the odometer. Stock is just that, may be limited to less than 3 "modifications" depending on the show. It is judged for being exactly as delivered new. Then modified, and sometimes Ultra-modified, which are pretty self explanatory.. I'll see if i can find my sheet from the NYZA at Syracuse, or maybe its on the zcca website? Anyone?

    I'm with Marty all the way on this one. My understanding is that unless the engine is fairly modified (cam, triples, etc)- the headers provide a negligible gain, and sometimes a loss of performance. And yes, unless coated- they're hot, rust, and don't seal well sometimes. I have a 260 with 2.25", a resonator under the seat, and the "turbo tip" muffler- just love the growl! It can get loud, and can resonate around 2K, but hey, that's why we drive a standard transmission, right?

    I'll say right upfront, i know bumpkus about FI, but i would also check out the possibility that its AFM related. Could be a temp sensor, again not sure the FI system... Has it had a complete tune-up, so we are working with known good condition basics?

    And you may try looking for member "1tuffz" here. He (Dave Palermo) has one in his 73, but it may be for sale- i believe his car is getting an LS-1 this winter. if you don't find him here, go to www.zccr.net and contact the president- thats him.

    I removed it on both my 73 and 74. Just get a brass plug to fill the hole in the T-stat housing. I don't remember the other end, i may have cut the hose to about 3 inches long, then plugged it with a large diameter bolt held tight with a hose clamp. Been awhile since i messed with it... Anyway, no problem removing it.

  24. Ed, very correct. But as a handloader, i must point out that you mean "cartridge" when you say "bullet". I know, i'm being a bit particular, but its a slow day at work!!
