who is around western PA
I'm in western NY, about 40 minutes south of Rochester, maybe about the same from the PA border. Hey Ed, it hasn't been so friggin' cold & snowy in NY for the last 20 years- you must be lucky!!

rear early bumper wanted
Hi everyone, One of this years projects is to mount early style bumpers on my late-260. I already have a 72-ish front bumper in decent shape, but still need the rear. I may need mounting brackets or somesuch, but that could always be fabricated. If anyone has a parts car with a decent rear bumper (70-early74) or a spare hanging around, let me know. I will probably end up rechroming or powdercoating them, so as long as it's fairly straight, it should work. Thanks, Jeremiah ps, anyone who has swapped early bumpers on a late Z, feel free to toss out advise or caveats!

aside form loving Z's....is anyone else...
Remember the vanity plate? GR8FLZED I'll say just an afficianado, not a head anymore. Last tour i saw was 1988. Do own some bootlegs still, though. Zya, Jeremiah

Electrical Ign-fuel pump
You say the fuel pump kicks on when the key is "ON", that is how it should be, isn't it? I believe my Z's only have OFF, ACC, ON, START- for key positions. If the pump doesn't run when in the ON position, the engine won't get gas & it wouldn't run, correct? It's so damn cold here in NY, i haven't seen my Z in months, but thats how i remember it. Maybe the 280's are different? Or do you mean the pump is on when the key is in the ACC position? Not sure if the microfiche CD has wiring diagrams (that hasn't been an issue for me-yet-) But is it a very worthwhile investment. Hope that helps- JA

Does you 'Significant Other' drive your Z?
I voted "she has no interest", but she really does love the Z cars, just not the driving! (that's okay) I did teach her to *drive my stick*, but she prefers to ride along- i think she's afraid of those 30 year old gremlins that cause things to quit. Susie likes a very reliable driver:classic: I must say she loves cars (almost as much as me), and that's a very important thing in a relationship. She does love the sound & the ride, so i'll always have a crusing companion:love: FWIW, my 73 is an auto, so when i strip/paint it so it looks respectable, she'll probably drive that in the summer.

tires&rims
The PO to my car put on BF Goodrich, which work fine for me.. If you want sticky race-ish tires, maybe Yokohama or Falken i would think. Have you searched www.tirerack.com or www.discounttire.com for what's available, ratings, etc? Zya, Jeremiah

the Z I own
Hi Burt- I see you asked about SU carbs.... don't be scared off by the voodoo, they really are nearly as simple as a toilet. A "controlled fuel leak" i believe is the description by Scott Bruning, who started www.ztherapy.com He has sold the business, but it is still an excellent resource. You will be wise to buy the su video. HTH, Jeremiah

Congratulations on your beautiful car!! Glad to have you here- where in NY are you? Check out a club local to you if you'd like: www.zccr.net (Rochester) Zacny (syracuse) or zany (albany) As far as the paints, I think you can get that premixed from Les & Dennis at www.classicdatsun.com Good luck & welcome! Dream Garage Poster
Nate, you should have come to the ZCCR meeting in Rochester last week! We had 7 of them (yes, i now own 1). I am currently emailing the thoughtful individual who brought those to the meeting, i asked that he post here, or get back to me and i will let everyone know if he has any left, etc. If all else fails, there's always Ebay, but i'd rather support a local Z-club or parts vendor. I'll let everyone know if i hear anything:classic: Jeremiah

Advise on air tools/compressor??
Well, unfortunately i didn't think of this until too close to Christmas, so i got nothing in the way of compressor or tools:cry: But i do have a very nice set of Carhart Arctic Wear, so i can work & hunt outside without freezing to death. Next plan, early birthday (april), or perhaps a Valentine's giftROFL I've shopped around alot, and found the best deals are Sears & Penneys, between their sales & discount deals, they are as cheap as anywhere! As far as just a tank, i think Northern Tool & Supply sells them. Zya all, Thanks again for the help. I plan on a 30 gallon upright when the time comes:cheeky:

The heck is this?
I *think* that it's the override button for some sort of ignition interlock. Maybe for the seatbelts, or transmission interlock that kept the ignition from working?? Been long gone on my car(s) I think there is mention of it in the Haynes books. JA

Advise on air tools/compressor??
Ya know, everytime i think i can get out cheap...... So, does anyone vote yea or nay for the Blue (campbell hausfield, i think)?? Seems most popular in my vicinity at mass mechandiser, home centers & hardware stores. Is that because its cheap junk, or has a bigger profit margin, or just heavily promoted? In all honesty, mine will see light duty until my kids are older & i work less. Then i can upgrade to really nice stuff! Thanks!

Smog Pump Removal/State Inspections
Does the pump need to be there for inspections, or do you just have to pass emissions? If the latter, you can probably pass by cleaning/tuning the carbs, and an oil change. We don't have such nonsense for classic cars here in NY (yet..)

Dieseling
Haven't i also heard that carbon build up in the cylinders adds to the dieseling, by providing a source of ignition, or something like that??:stupid:

Advise on air tools/compressor??
Hi all! Well, it's been over a month my babies have been hibernating, so i'm getting anxious to tinker. I've decided i want to replace all of the front bushings of my 260 with polyurethane. As i think about it, it seems time to purchase an air compressor as well as air tools to simplify the job (work smarter, not harder...). Question is, i'd like to get going on a low budget, but i need opinions about the compressor in particular. What sort of minimums as far as pressure, volume, etc.etc. Of course i'd love an eight hundred plus dollar permanent unit, but, it won't happen- so can i get away with a $119 2 gallon pancake, or what? I'd hate to waste $ on junk, but if i could make use of hundred dollar WalMart special, i'd have more Z-Bucks to spend! Any opinions will be greatly appreciated! How about air tools? Anything in particular i need? Is Harbor Freight etc as good a place as any to buy them? Thanks for any help, Jeremiah ..damn i miss driving fun cars during the winter!!

Clock testing
When i had mine out this summer, i used one of those big 6V lantern batteries, just alligator clips to connect it & make sure it worked. Don't know if that voltage would keep time right, but it did confirm that it functioned at least! HTH, Jeremiah
