That is considered a 74.5 or late production date. The late/74.5 260Z is very similar to the 75 280Z...larger bumpers, lights in the grille, etc. . The early production date is very similar to the 73 240Z... smaller bumpers, turn lights below the bumper etc. . The 1750 and 1751 bumper kit you have is designed to be used with the earlier model Z's 70-(early)74. The catolog lists: 50-1750 Front 70 - early 74 and 50-1751 Rear 70 - early 74 The problem you have is that the kit was designed for the early models with the smaller bumpers, turn lights in the lower valance and rear sheet metal differences. Bottom line... it's not impossible but you are facing quite a bit of additional work and parts for it to work. :disappoin

Is your 260 an early production car... prior to 8/74 ?

Like... I need more ways to do that! Ditto on the cool though.

I love Z's in factory original form...but I also love 'em modified like this as well. I just love Z's. The "first generation" Z is just such a great platform for modification. I would love to see what Chip Foose could do with it.

    Confirmed....it is a 2 1/2" hole.

Ed..... if it fits an early 9/73 260Z I would be interested in one. Do you know if it works? Thanks, Jack
  8. Maybe... he's Smokingwheels American cousin?
  9. Give us an Eyewitness on the (Rust) Spot Report.
  10. It works for me...Looks great man!
  11. Hey Arne, I guess that's why my Z guy that does 4 or 5 conversions a year was anxious to have you make them for $25.00. Thanks for the effort.
  12. It really must cause some wild hallucinations...
  13. The wall directly behind me... is covered with magazine racks full of R&T, Motor Trend and Car & Driver... I even have a copy of Motor Trend from June 1951 my birth date. I have some of my favorite car ads framed. I am a certified car nut. I can thank my grandfather for sharing with me his love and enthusiasm for cars when I was very young. This thread is a perfect example of the younger and older enthusiast interacting and sharing. It is what will help keep the Z alive for generations to come.
  14. Thanks...Enigma. Resources are a part of it but it is mostly grinding, scraping and elbow grease to get the bottom cleaned and prepped. If and when I do this on another one it will be media blasted.
  15. I am not sure if these will help. This is an early 260 Z http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/2/medium/PDR_1458.JPG http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500/medium/PDR_1484.JPG

Need to check the links.... I am getting nothing but a lot of computer jibberish.

Rick...the car looks great! Excellent restoration. It's projects like yours that increase my desire to build an early Z back to original stock. I loved 'em then and I love 'em now. Rick...I have a question. What do you think about using a low lustre /satin finish clear on the the aluminum parts? Would it preserve the look you have acheived and keep it from staining and be easier to maintain? Or would it create other problems ...like yellowing?
  18. Chill....guys. I was jerkin' your chain. Haven't you been around people... older than you ...and you slip and say something like old or something like you said in the post... and they say "Old" and get all excited. I know I have. There is certainly no offense taken. I have two daughters older than you. Besides, I'm younger than Lionel Ritchie. That is interesting. I wish I would've kept my first new car. "72" Chevy SS Nova's are worth a few bucks today. Plus they are still a kick to drive. I am not sure I would still want that "89" Aerostar van though.
  19. Old? As compared to what?
  20. Thanks..Ken. That's the result of my latent desire for the Arizona Z chromaloy control arms and billet aluminum mustache bar. Funny... how it works... my desires and budget are all to often miles apart.

  22. I recently picked up an L28 valve cover from the powder coaters and I had on several occasions picked it up and inspected it turning it over etc.. It was not until the other day when a friend picked it up to inspect it did we hear a rattling noise. Needless to say the only place something could be rattling was in between the vent baffle and the top of the cover. After a few minutes of shaking and tipping back forth we were able to get two fingers inside to pull out a plug the powder coaters tried to use to keep the threads of the vent tube from getting coated. It was obviously too small and fell inside. Had the plug not dislodged before it was installed...well needless to say it could have done all kinds of bad things bouncing around with the cam and valve train.
  23. Gregg, For what it may be worth to you...I have provided a link to some pics of my resto project I did this year. They deal specifically with your questions...ie. frame rails, rust protection and the rotisserie. There are additional pics in my gallery as well. http://photobucket.com/albums/d81/jackhammer02/ Briefly... the frame/floor rails are from baddog, the engine bay rails were fabbed from my specs by a shop here in Houston and are made to cap over the originals. The entire undercarriage of the car was treated to specs with POR 15 products. The rotisserie is two engine stands and it worked perfectly fine. Note: As with any project such as this when caution and respect are used the chances of accidents are reduced. Also FYI... I also included the link to our local Z Club here in Houston. We have a lot of knowledgeable members and a great local resource for stuff. http://www.zcar.org/ Jack
  24. tttz, Seriously...If Arne had given you the hookup of the diode info. ...you still wouldn't buy his wiring adapter. You were looking for a free lunch. So... why so smug?
  25. Arne...I am good for one now. More to come if all works well. I just got off the phone with a good friend of mine who owns Awesome Z and does 4 or 5 of those types of conversions over the course of the year. FYI...He also stated that the price is very reasonable and that it is worth it to him.
