So The show's called "Magrack" ?? Is this now post show or pre show or what ? In other words have I missed it yet ?? I'm not in Glendale I'm in Camarillo just north of "The Grade" and have adelphia as my provider but I can search for the show if it hasn't happened yet.

Engine balancing..advise
I dunno if it makes a difference in the time spent or quality but Is that for a race balance job ?? If there's different balance jobs you can get I guess perhaps some research will be needed, I just know at some point I'm gonna want mine I've heard "race balanced" so it will hold up to a TT conversion and not fall apart

Occasionnal rough idling and misfire
If it's sporatic like that check the point gap. Happened on my 72 once as well. I replaced the wires, plugs, cap , rotor, tried different coils. I even adjusted the timing and it got better a little after that then it got worse again. I didn't even think about the points. A friend told me to check the points and when I did there was no measureable gap

Cam question -- pictures
That's kinda funny. My engine supposedly had only 1200 miles on it since a rebuild when I bought it. It sat for a little bit at the dealership but not for very long couple months. It has that same rust looking ring around the cam but only on one of them...just like on yours. Makes me wonder if it's supposed to be like that ?? I've never had a problem with mine though FWIW. Here's thumbnail pics of mine. <a href="http://www.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc35&image=_Cam_Cropped.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.imagevenue.com/loc35/th__Cam_Cropped.jpg" border="0" title="Photo Hosting and Image Hosting at www.Imagevenue.com"/></a> <a href="http://img1.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc31&image=_Cam_Cropped2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img1.imagevenue.com/loc31/th__Cam_Cropped2.jpg" border="0" title="Photo Hosting and Image Hosting at www.Imagevenue.com"/></a>

Your thoughts wanted, preservation/restoration?
Good thread..I'll bite.. :lick: Like stated by others I say do what you want with it and turn it into something you love and it's all good. I may hate it, I may love it but that doesn't matter as long as it's cared for and loved by someone then it's not being ignored and turned into something aweful by mother nature. I'd like to think there's different levels of restoration...not just all or nothing. In other words I belive in restoration with a twist. I'm restoring some things to factory or as close to factory condition as I can like the rear defroster that I want to get working, the interior body panels and doors, while other things I'm modifying to improve performance and looks of the car. Things like the stereo isn't stock and it wont ever return to stock, it looks and sounds good but isn't turned into a boom box, the shocks will be replaced with 5-way tokicos, 16 or 17 inch wheels with low profile tires also to help handling, upgraded sway bars, engine mods, etc. My car will be.. or well..is in the modified/hybrid section though some things will be restored on it. I don't think of the work I'm doing as purely modifying it I consider myself to be restoring it with improvements :bandit:

Cylinder head question.
Ok sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but it answered alot of my questions yet at the same time confused me more. Reading 240ZMan's post above makes me think I should just stick with the N42 Block and N42 head combo L28 that I currently have in my '72 240 and just throw the fuel injection on it to get rid of the pesky carbs that make cold starts so fun, get smoother power and call it a day (for now:devious:) Then I read this excerpt from the word document posted by Webdawg1 (thanks for the link BTW!! ) which states....: "E31 - '70-'71 240Z • Square ports • Smallest combustion chambers of all Z-car cylinder heads • Small intake and exhaust valves This cylinder heads performs best with the addition of big intake and exhaust valves. A popular performance use of this head is matching it up with a 280Z bottom end. While this gives you better intake runners and an immediate compression boost (somewhere around 10:1), this will require the use of high octane fuel. For most of us this would not make for an ideal daily driver. But if reckless abandon and blown differentials are what you're after, go for it." ...and now I'm confused it commented on the E31 as being a popular swap and increasing it to 10:1 CR and mentioned blown diffs even  yet by reading the post above it's not as good as the N42 head is with the addition of a mild cam ?? I realised the E31 head would have to be notched and modified with larger valves pain in the arse and pricey I'm sure but if that was done prior to installation and you threw a cam onto it afterwards wouldn't it then produce more power than the N42 head ??? My other concern is will the stock 280zx efi system work with an E31 head having that high of compression even if the valves are modified to the same size, etc. or would you then need an aftermarket tuneable ecu ?? **Note if it makes a difference to it working or not there will be a 60MM TB and a Turbo AFM to go with it.** Also I still need to aquire one (I'm pretty sure even though I have LSD the size looks like an R180), but I also thought the R200 diff would hold up to that kinda power and not blow up ?? :nervous: Obviously it's not the combo I'm going to want to run with any sort of turbo setup, which is on the list, but that's so far down the road for me anyway that I'm thinking I can take advantage of higher compression until then. Remove it when I'm ready and spend a crapload on a TT setup that will have to be custom fabricated almost entirely I'm sure and I'm not that good with a welder yet and don't have the money to have it done so it'll be awhile... P.S. I already have an E31 head on a 71 240 parts car in the garage so I don't have to buy it from anywhere. I'm just not sure now if it's worth the trouble to modify it for the L28 ??

Hey all new to this forum w/240z/240sx hybrid question
This might be true here and probably is...tis a different crowd I'm sure..over at Got-Z on the other hand I'm known for it but I've also got over 8,500 posts there too and been there longer. They've come to accept it and expect it...although I did post in green a few times due to a request from a current "BOM" cause it was his favorite color

Hey all new to this forum w/240z/240sx hybrid question
Well...what else would you call it if everyone knows it's your post without looking at the poster name. It's definition 2 below...I'm not trademarking the color persay it's the use of it being as no one else I've seen on any of the forums I'm on consistently uses the same color other than black :lick: Main Entry: 1trade·mark Pronunciation: -"märk Function: noun 1 : a device (as a word) pointing distinctly to the origin or ownership of merchandise to which it is applied and legally reserved to the exclusive use of the owner as maker or seller 2 : a distinguishing characteristic or feature firmly associated with a person or thing {derringers... became almost a trademark of gamblers -- Elmer Keith} {wearing his trademark bow tie and derby hat}

Hey all new to this forum w/240z/240sx hybrid question
LMAO!! No!! It's not to annoy I swear!! If I wanted to annoy I'd probably be posting in a color like this one seen here.. It's because since I joined the my first Z forum over a year ago I picked that color cause it seemed (to me) still easy to read and not an eye sore being not bright yet different...everyone else types in black it just seems to ordinary for me and I like to be different and colorful!! . It's a trade mark of mine, Blake I responded to your ignore post due to blue on the "where to start" thread in the help me section stating this same reason. However if you actually did ignore me you wont see the reasoning behind the madness...

Driving poll
Mine's a daily driver it's my only car still working on gradually improving performance and looks...however if it's nice out I might just take my bike as it gets mad if I don't give it attention too. So I picked daily and alternate

Where to start...
Well...sorry to hear it...do as you must but this is a trademark of mine...I'm one of the only ones that does this...just don't go wander over to Got-Z if you're afraid of the blue text as we have no ignore option and I've been there since November of 2003 and there are 8,581 blue posts currently floating about P.S. I guess you're lucky I think the bright blue text is hard for these 27 year old eyes and generaly looks like crap against the background

Trust Twin Turbo kit on eBay... HS30-H verify?!
I'd rather have this setup Actually this engine's for sale too it was on ebay awhile ago but he didn't get the reserve he wanted so it didn't sell...but I don't want the engine it's setup for straight line drag I'd want the power more in the midrange to high and then have the HPs hold steady afterwards. I do like the turbo setup though :classic: http://www.speedshopthagard.com/projects/240Z_twinturbo/index.html

I'd like some input...
Welding isn't hard, welding well on the other hand now that takes lots of practice!! Any monkey with half a brain that can solder can probably also weld and if you can't do either yet watch someone who can and then you'll know how it's really not that complicated. I'd recomend starting simple with a wirefeed welder works alot better if you get one with inert gas you can get a better bead that way. Then start welding stuff oh wait DON'T WELD GALVANIZED CRAP!! :dead: Well at least try to get all the galvanized crap off first if you're going to weld it. The fumes from the zinc that gets burned off or vaporized rather will make you sick.

Where to start...
Nice lookin though...hehe Hey ?! Are you hunting monkeys with those fog lights ?? They seem to be aimed a tad on the high side...could be just me though :lick: I haven't read the infamous black book yet but I've seen what beandip's refering to and as he states there's one on amazon currently probably on ebay too which I would check first Amazon seems to be higher priced . Anyway I would think going after the rust would be the main priority to stop it before it gets any worse at least that's how I approach it, luckily I was blessed with little rust on my current z. :bandit:

Hey all new to this forum w/240z/240sx hybrid question
I have absolutly no earthly idea...doesn't appear that he would need adapters though with that design. Perhaps MSA sells them ? Though I just looked and didn't see them :stupid:

'74 260 Distributor Problems
I wont email until I know I'm correct this will take research I think but isn't the vacuum advance designed to advance it as needed and therefore as more advancing would be needed as the higher the rpms are then full advance would theroreticaly be at redline no ? Or am I thinking wrong and it only has to do with throttle positioning ??

Removing Gas Tank
I absolutly detest those archaic pieces of crap :tapemouth Whoever came up with those did not think of how the weather and time was going to effect the future operation of the built in spring temper of the clamp that is supposed to make it get larger as you loosen the screw but instead stays stuck how it's set and requires cutting it to get it off 75% of the time and should therefore be taken out and shot in the teeth :rambo: {rant over}
-
Removing Gas Tank
I could be wrong but somethin's tellin me that it's not just for that...things expand when they get hot and on hot days that gas sitting in that metal tank is going to do the same thing which means the vapors need somewhere to go and if your gas cap is functioning properly well it ain't goin out that way So I think it allows circulation so to speak and possible controlled venting ?? If someone knows for sure please correct me if I'm wrong :nervous:

To all members in California; emissions question
..I wont mention stations but I've "heard" there are several places you can go pay 200 smackers and have no problem passing smog, I highly doubt my friends 1999 camero passes smog all on it's own while pushing 630hp to the tires..haha :classic:

Removing Gas Tank
Yep "West Marine" to be specific although I'd imagine any marine shop similar should have the same stuff. The fuel hose itself is typically thicker walled as well seems like everything marine grade is beefed up some. :classic:

To all members in California; emissions question
Guess I can't add much to this thread...but yeah I'll concure with everyone else you just sqeaked buy dude so count your lucky stars. As stated a bill was just recently passed that goes into effect in this comming June I was told that will put a halt to the rolling smog exemption. I will say they have done this crap before and it was reversed after about 8 years (rough guess) so there's nothing that says it wont happen again. I'm betting it will get reversed once again, they're always trying to screw us out of even owning the older cars let alone driving them on the roads.. damn tree hugging nature lovers . The car clubs always seem to get enough support though in the long run to overthrow their schemy little plans :bandit: :devious:
