  1. Carl, the blue car looks like a hard top version of a Shelby AC Cobra, which is one of my favorite all time body styles. My vision of a modern Z: Keep the 350Z and introduce a lower cost 240Z. Low weight like Tomohawk said and all the stiffness of modern technology can give in an aluminum and composite body formed like the lotus Elise (there goes the low cost). It would have a 225 HP high revving 2.4 litre inline 6 with modern management and fuel injection, 6 speed trans with a wonderful feel and a low ratio LSD diff, slotted disc brakes on all four corners with 4 piston calapers. It would look like a retro 240z with flush mounted glass, fender flares (blended not ZG), long aggresive hood with a large front opening and muscular air dam, the rear would have an intigrated spoiler just big enough to be usefull but still kinda small. The wheels would be 0 or even - offset 17"x8.5" with 245/40/17's maby in a Watanbe style or something retro, there would be room to run 16"x10" with 275/45/16 Hoosier tires for the autocross in St Prepared and 16"x9" with 245/45/16 for the stock class with out body/suspension mods. The suspension would have adjustments for camber, caster and toe and adjustable shocks, and have optional spring rates too chose from. The engine block would be magnesium, the head, trans case would be aluminum. The weight balance would be 45/55 with a rear bias and the side to side would be 50/50. The interior would be very much like the original in its layout but the seats wold be Sparco or Momo like and the steering wheel too. No frills gadgetry though, roll up windows, A/C and stero optional, very little sound deadning, ect. The best part is Nissan understands our desire to have the original Z but have modern upgrades so all the good parts on the car would bolt in the old Z's. This car would be autocross ready from the factory with optional light weight forged wheel just for the track and it would cost 22K or less without any options. AND OF COURSE IT WOULD BE OFFERED IN 920 GOLD AT NO EXTRA COST!

Yes the clutch type has clutch packs that keep the diff locked until there is enough tourque to break them free then the diff acts like an open one. That is a simple defintion though, there are different clutch type differentials out there. The non clutch types are gear driven such as a Quaife but the explination for the workings of those is a little more involved.

I have not heard any thing good about the Phantom Grip. Nissan Competition or Nismo makes LSD carriers for the r200 and so does Prescision Gear. They are clutch type LSD's. You will have problems fitting the the carrier to the ring gear due to the fact the ring gear in the 77 R200 has 10mm bolts and the newer LSD have 12 blot holes. Try searching here and over at www.hybridz.org for ways to get around the bolt sizeing difference; it really is not that big of an issue, people do it all the time. The turbo 300zx (pre `88) used a 3.7 clutch LSD R200. Remeber they are old now and my experience with used LSD's has not been all that great. You might not spend any more money buying a new LSD unit in the end. As far as the ability of the R200 with a LSD to take power. I do not have exact numbers but people have reported tham handeling 450HP for quite a long time.
  4. www.rebelloracing.com Rebello racing is in Antioch CA. I am not sure if it is southern or not but they are very reputable, check them out.
  5. I have gotten parts from them through E-mail without a problem but with the trans I talked to the owner. With an item that pricey I felt better talking to a person. He is very hard to reach on the phone. I had no problems with the trans, shipping or anything else and I do recomend them and many other people have written positive threads about the Zbarn on this and other sites (which is the way I decided to go to them for parts).
  6. I want to get a dedicated track car. I'm going to keep the spoiler on the car until I get it repainted, then store the spoiler until I can get a track car and put it on that car. I like the looks of flares and a spoiler as much as without a spoiler. I do think the spoiler I have (and you have) works well though. One autox course we have is very big with a long straight. I can get to about 95 mph (7K+ in 3rd) then there is a sweeping right. The car is more stable than 2 other Z's that run the course with out a spoiler. I can enter the corner at a higher speed, they both use the brakes, I just lift on the throttle for a second. It is either the spoiler or I am a little more brave than they are. We all run the same tires and the suspensions are very similar too. That little spoiler below the rear light is interesting.
  7. I have the slave from the 240 on mine, works great. I have a turbo clutch and flywheel so I have a different throwout bearing.
  8. I agree! I have a bre style spiler only it is a bit oversized (taller) and I think it is ugly. I do not mind the original bre size but eventually I am taking mine off and not replacing it with anything. I have the same size goodyears on my car for autox only in the R250 compound. The MSA street flares look great on Steve's car with the cantilevers. I wold like to go with either those or ZG's (I'm a sucker for flares). Money is the big factor though, so for now the car will stay the same.
  9. http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PRC02A MSA does not sell a short throw for the 79-89 5 speed anymore.
  10. The throws do feel precise and positive on the trans I have. I'm sure having a rebuilt one helps out in that area. I only have 500 miles on it. I did not realize the MSA one could be put on the new 5 speeds.
  11. There is not a kit for sale (that I can find) to shorten the throws for the 81-83 5 speed either. The ratio seperation is better and the 5th gear is stronger for the 81-83 (close ratio) 5 speed which is the reason I went with the close ratio. The throws are not that bad ,IMO, anyway. Of course I had a `90 Saab 900 before the Z, they have long, sloppy, vauge throws, this trans feels great compared to it. A short throw could be made with the shifter from a later 4 speed, some measurements and a drill press. There is room to put holes on the shifter tabs above the holes from the factory. The late 4 speed shifte lever has a longer distance from the bottom to the mounting hole that looks to line up where new holes could be drilled on the shifter tabs and still have enough metal around the holes for strength.
  12. I got mine from the Zbarn. It was pricey ($600) but it has all new internals. It was entirely rebuilt before I purchased it. He will sell you a used one too for a lot less. I just wanted a "new" one.

I have pinstriping on mine. I buffed out the paint and lost the striping on the hood but it is still there on the sides. It looks ok, it is not too far from the color of the car so it is not too obvious. I plan on having the car painted in the next few years and will not have the pinstripe put back on. I do not think the old Z's look right with pin striping, they look more appropriate on a Caddy.
  14. You are right, not a needed thing but it would look good under the hood.
  15. I have been eyeing Arizona Zcar's pullies and serpentine belt set up. It looks very nice and clean.

I am pretty sure you know how I got mixed up into this Tomohawk. You can edit your thread (10:09 AM) but you cannot change the quotes that appear on the threads following your edit. It was a galiant effort though!

Are you refering to me? I have not made any comments about knock-off wheels. If you are refering to me then you might want to go back and read my first two threads, the one about the Volk wheels and the one giving a web adress. Neither of them have anything to do with Knock-off wheels, and all my post after that are inquiring as to why you qouted me, as you can see I am still a little confused here, or is it you that is confused?

I am a little lost here. No offense to me why? Are you refering to the Volk Racing Wheels I posted previously that are available in the Z bolt pattern? I think you must have me mistaken for another thread author. I have not commented on any of the other threads here. I just posted a web adress and a wheel brand.
  19. I have been bashed there many times too. The same person started bashing every thread I posted. Then other people would get in on it. This particular person has a little following of people who seem to idolize him. I always thought you were well received over there. Sorry to hear about that but like Beandip said "YOU ARE WELCOME HERE , NO BASHING."

Volk Racing TE37's 15x7, 0 offset, 4x4.5 bolt pattern = 9.2 LBS. Great wheels, they are forged AL. in the correct offset and bolt pattern.

How much are other wheels that look like the Rewinds. For the same price could you get Panasports or some other brand that is carried in your country and does not have all the taxes applied?

http://www.reactionresearch.com/automotive.html These guys make a few different styles of Z wide body kits.
  25. Arizona Zcar heavy duty spring will lower it nicely. They are $200 for the set. They are stiffer than the oem springs but I don't think you will be able to lower the car with out going stiffer. I have them and like the ride for the street.
