Test Fit
I have debated wheather or not to go with 225/50/16's or 205/55/16 or 205/60/15's for some time now. I have 205/60/14 on slotted mags with -12 offset. I do not have any rubbing and the suspension is lower than stock but it is very stiff too, they look as though they should rub. I would like to have a tire diameter closer to the original size, hince the tire and wheel size choices I listed before. I have heard people say they had rubbing probs with the 225/50/16's in the past. I think I will go with 205/60/15 for the lower price (I am poor), the comfort (Not old yet but getting there), and they should not follow the groves in the road as bad as 225's with the alignment I have. Thanks for the info Marty and 240ztt.

Do the black wheels have a 0 offset? Do you hve and rubbing problems with the inside of the rear fenders? I would like to go with 0 offset 16's and 225/50's but I do not want to have rubbing issues.

Gearing calculation: someone check my math PLZ
I have the 83 5 sp and a 4:37 rear R200. I use the car for autox and street driving (mostly on the weekends). If it is your daily driver I would stay with the 4:11. The 4:37 is very low. I go through 1st very fast with 23.75 diameter tires. I think the solution for me is taller tires (25", 205/60/15 or 205/55/16) then I can have better gearing for the steet and still have the low gearing on the track with the autox tires. Right now my speedo is around 90 when I am going 65 becauise I have a 3.70 speedo cog and the smaller diameter tires. I think 75 is around 3700 RPM.

They are black mesh and they look good IMO. I have allways like mesh wheels on a Z.

brake swap
Very diplomatic!

why is my car so heavy?
I wonder what the average passenger weight is these days? 150 seems a little out dated and lite in this bloated day and age. It was probably about right back in the late 60's though.

Most anything can be said to a person and not wizz them off, all it takes is a little diplomacy. Unfortunatly on some of the forums out there diplomacy is a lost art. Some people seem to feel being nice is being vulnerable, I feel it is quite the oppisite. The attackers on the forums leave themselves open to attack from all the other people reading the thread. The consistantly polite people may be attacked on occaision but very seldom compared to the attackers. 26TH-Z is right about the archives, I have found all kinds of stuff about Z's and many other non Z things which I found very interesting. It is also a way to find links to great info and cool pictures.

"Interesting" Japanese Auto styling
I have started to really like the over the top Japanese styling. I would never sport a car like that myself but do like to look at them. They seem very cartoon like, and a parody of the whole wing and ground effects kits that are out there.

f#ck this sh#ts me............
When I first started posting on forums like this I got blasted with the search comment. I though it was rude too. Sometimes I explained that I had searched first and gave the results that I had found but still got the "try the search button." I think the people who regularly give the "try the search button" have some type of deep seated controll issues. If I do not feel like dealing with a question that has been asked a million times I just skip over it and read other threads. I just ignoir those search comments now.

Way of the Future?
You hit the nail on the head. I think there will be a day that some form of alternative energy will dominate but no matter what it is it will cost $ and degrade the environment to a certain degree.

Way of the Future?
We use Bio-Diesel in our large trucks at work. I cannot tell a difference in performance but I can tell a difference with my nose. The Bio-Diesel is great. It does not smeel like petrolium diesel at all, it smells more like fried food and it does not produce as much soot either. The price is close to petrolium diesel now that it has gone up to $2.65 a gallon. I just read an article about the petrolium companies lobbing to make Bio illegal. I am not sure why I just skimed the reading but they are worried about bio's possible impact to their buisness; so they are scrambeling to stop its production. Hydrogen can be produced cheaply and effeciently through new solar technology. The man who invented the nickle-hydried battrie (forgot his name) is sinking all his time and money into producing solar cells unlike any other. They will produce power under low light (thick cloud cover, north side of a roof in the northern hemisphere or visa versa for the southern half) and will work even with holes punched in them. Conventional cells are trashed when they are penitrated. These cells are flexible and are being produced in his factory currently. They can be used like roofing materiel, which is how he designed them to be used. The plant is making them in sheets that are about one foot wide and one mile long (sounds crazy but it is true). He is also working on ways to process hydrogen from the solor cells with low enviromental impact and low cost. He claims to have figure out the way but keeps the process garded until he can get it pattened. He also has made a metal alloy that asorbs hydrogen like a sponge and will not release it when ruptured or explode from impacts. Auto companies are looking into using it as materiel for parts on a car like the bumpers whick would double as fuel storage. The technology is here to use hydrogen but the government and auto companies are reluctant to convert because the entire infrastructure for this contry (US and relating to the auto) is based on petrolium.

Original Z Color? What Code?
I think it is 920 gold too. That would be the beautiful kind of stunning right? When my car is under a very bright light it appeears lighter like in the 2nd photo.

nice car but way over priced
I would not be suprised to see an original BRE racer with a documented history (photos ect...) go for 100K. Important historic race cars such as an original BRE are sought after by collectors who pay big dollars for them. 100K really is not that much in the world of rare collector cars these days.

What Did Datsun Do To You!?
Your car can be extremely fast with the I6 it has now. It can look great with a set of tripples and sound great with the right head work, header, exaust. And the best thing is you can drive the hell out of your Z for 150K miles and still have a reliable everyday driver.

nice car but way over priced
For 24K I would rather have a $12K extremely nice Z, an awesome autocross Zcar and a trailer.

You guys are going to love this...
Well now I have something to do for the next few hours.

nice car but way over priced
Shouldn't that price get you an absolutly original pristine trailer queen with low miles? That car sure aint it!

Compression question / Pinging
His compression should be closer to 10:1 if the N42 head is stock and the pistons are stock flattops.

if you designed the new z...
Carl, the blue car looks like a hard top version of a Shelby AC Cobra, which is one of my favorite all time body styles. My vision of a modern Z: Keep the 350Z and introduce a lower cost 240Z. Low weight like Tomohawk said and all the stiffness of modern technology can give in an aluminum and composite body formed like the lotus Elise (there goes the low cost). It would have a 225 HP high revving 2.4 litre inline 6 with modern management and fuel injection, 6 speed trans with a wonderful feel and a low ratio LSD diff, slotted disc brakes on all four corners with 4 piston calapers. It would look like a retro 240z with flush mounted glass, fender flares (blended not ZG), long aggresive hood with a large front opening and muscular air dam, the rear would have an intigrated spoiler just big enough to be usefull but still kinda small. The wheels would be 0 or even - offset 17"x8.5" with 245/40/17's maby in a Watanbe style or something retro, there would be room to run 16"x10" with 275/45/16 Hoosier tires for the autocross in St Prepared and 16"x9" with 245/45/16 for the stock class with out body/suspension mods. The suspension would have adjustments for camber, caster and toe and adjustable shocks, and have optional spring rates too chose from. The engine block would be magnesium, the head, trans case would be aluminum. The weight balance would be 45/55 with a rear bias and the side to side would be 50/50. The interior would be very much like the original in its layout but the seats wold be Sparco or Momo like and the steering wheel too. No frills gadgetry though, roll up windows, A/C and stero optional, very little sound deadning, ect. The best part is Nissan understands our desire to have the original Z but have modern upgrades so all the good parts on the car would bolt in the old Z's. This car would be autocross ready from the factory with optional light weight forged wheel just for the track and it would cost 22K or less without any options. AND OF COURSE IT WOULD BE OFFERED IN 920 GOLD AT NO EXTRA COST!

R200 or R180
Yes the clutch type has clutch packs that keep the diff locked until there is enough tourque to break them free then the diff acts like an open one. That is a simple defintion though, there are different clutch type differentials out there. The non clutch types are gear driven such as a Quaife but the explination for the workings of those is a little more involved.

R200 or R180
I have not heard any thing good about the Phantom Grip. Nissan Competition or Nismo makes LSD carriers for the r200 and so does Prescision Gear. They are clutch type LSD's. You will have problems fitting the the carrier to the ring gear due to the fact the ring gear in the 77 R200 has 10mm bolts and the newer LSD have 12 blot holes. Try searching here and over at www.hybridz.org for ways to get around the bolt sizeing difference; it really is not that big of an issue, people do it all the time. The turbo 300zx (pre `88) used a 3.7 clutch LSD R200. Remeber they are old now and my experience with used LSD's has not been all that great. You might not spend any more money buying a new LSD unit in the end. As far as the ability of the R200 with a LSD to take power. I do not have exact numbers but people have reported tham handeling 450HP for quite a long time.
