  1. Is that a MSA header, because I have the same set up but not installed. I have a 2.4 but that shouldn't make a difference. I hate to think I will have to grind again on these intakes. This is the first post i have read that there was interference of the header with the intake. Anyone else???
  2. Nice job on the polish, but I'm suprised the guy doesn't clean up the balance tube while he is at it like I did. What casting is that intake?
  3. Arne, I think your right that you can overkill. That's where I am at and after reading endless posts from all different z sites, stock z stuff is pretty tuff. Reground cams have as many pro's and cons as new. The original metallargy is hard to beat and refaced rockers seem to be fine. I would ASSume ,like you, that MSA knows a little about these heads. My machinist, who has very little knowledge of these cars has had my head for a year-granted I told him it was alright to put me on the back burner-he is taking his time because every engine has it pecularalities. I also decided to go whole hog and it's costing me 1500$. That's all new internals ,valves , springs, cam, rockers, guides, lash pads and port and polish.I say someone who wants stock, MSA would be a good deal.
  4. I hope the guy welded some straps in to hold the body together when he cut out the old stuff or the body will spring apart and never line back up. From the pics it doesn't look that bad,we are talking a 30+ year old car that needs body work. My car is 99% rust free and the gaps are not perfect. Most people can't see both sides of the car at the same time so no one will notice. I think you have stared at it too long and forgot that's it's not gonna be perfect anyway. As long as you have room to putty it up nice , that's all that will matter. I did the same thing when i welded up a chevy 1/2 ton, I wound up filling the gap with more metal and bondo, but it wa s worse then yours:stupid: Hey---I was learningROFL
  5. Lance, that's a tough ? since it is so subjective. Everyone loves a red sports car and a classic like a 240 looks good red. But red is expensive to paint. I would stay away from the yellows which fewer people like. Lighter colors hide those body imperfections!! I'm still tossing around the color question for my car. It was originally silver which works on Z's ,but I like blacking out the trim which changes the options on colors. It's red or silver for me with satin black trim. By the way Lance, did you get my PM about the headlite bucket
  6. I thought it was interesting that you bondo(their bondo) right over the por-15 rust treatment before it even cures. If you haven't been on their site it is worth a look.
  7. In Carls response there was comments to runner lengths on the SU manifolds. I am just curiuos about the different type castings of the intakes and is there one that flows better then another. I have searched a lot for this and n-36 comes up often but with no proof that I have seen. Is there a definitive answer to be found? Since Datsun worked so hard on this I would think improvements would have been made.
  8. Has anyone converted an early e-88 head for fuel injection? I'm trying to find out how much work it is and any pros and cons. My head is at the shop now getting the works and if it needed to be drilled or notched I would like to do it now while its apart and at the machinists. I plan on using Su's right now but later on who knows. I'm putting a lot of money in this head and I would like it to be as versitile as possible.
  9. thanks Chris, I was trying to find that post. I've bought stuff from Matman before but couldn't remember his name.
  10. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for an intake manifold for my SU's.I've been polishing out this set but the casting is so poor that it won't clean up. It seems that the earlier castings like the 46 are worse then an e-88 casting.I thought there was a guy named Matt who had several sets he was selling. Any help would be appreciated.
  11. Just curious walter, where are you in Indy. I live over in Avon. Looks like you have almost as much to do as I do. Atleast my 71 was a CA car and is pretty much rust free. I would unwrap those pieces and proudly hang'em high in your garage. the "Don't throw down" is great
  12. Now i threw my jealousy fit I wanted to know how clearance was for brakes. Are you running stock brakes? If so ,is there room for bigger stuff?
  13. I am so stinkin jealous of your wheels. I've been eye balling those on e-bay for months, that guy has sold a bunch of them. He says he has a limited amount so by the time i have money they'll be gone:mad: He sells red centers and black( the ones i want) Damn I wish i had the money. By the way congrats-they look great!!!!
  14. Sorry Frank if I put you on the spot but I was reading my sportZ mag and there is Frank from Avon Indiana. Anyway frank if you visit these forums send your neighbor a PM. It would be nice to know another Z owner in town. steve
  15. I've got one but I don't have the base. I bought a brand new dizzy off of ebay but had no base so I bought A used one to steal the base off of. I'd love to trade you but you need the base from that year: atleast I don't know a way to make the 240 base work???
  16. I'd Like to hear anymore info anyone has on the indy dealership cruise. I really need to be around some first generation cars so I can remember what my car looks like together in the flesh(or metal). I guess we are talking about the dealerships in the city of indy??. Is anyone an active indy-z car club member and how many members are there. I'm going to need some help when I start putting this car back together:stupid:
  17. Sorry for the double post. not awake yet. originalparts@hotmail.com is how you can contact this guy in N.y.
  18. I'm awake-kinda- but I am waiting for dry warm weather to hit the junk yards. Right now I am dealing with a guy in up state N.Y. for parts. Poor guy doesn't have a garage and is pulling parts in the snow, but he has been great to deal with. Is that a 2+2 jagnew3 because this guy has a 77 that he is parting out. He seems straight up trying to make some extra money. I already got the moustache bar and seatbelts from the car, it supposedly has a great interior. I'm going to be on the hunt for a 3.9 rear as soon as the weather breaks.

  20. Only lived here for 4 years, came up here to drive trains out of Avon. I live just off of dan jones road. Don't know if rockville rd can handle another business.Good luck with the 280z, I'm just getting started and will never be finished you know!
  21. Hey guys, I'm also from indy, actually Avon, just south of IRP. Walter i also have a 71 that I've had for 14 years and now I'm doing a complete overhaul. It is also in pieces but won't be running anytime soon. Do either of you guys belong to the indyz club. Their web page hasn't changed for a while, don't know if they are still around, I need to join.
