  1. 270cc Bosch injectors . Just picked them by size, but used on 1.8T Audis . Bought them new Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  2. I guess I should have stated that the aggression part of the timing would be more of how fast I was at total . These are a stock plug number for the zx motor. Don't remember number off hand. And yes, the sooty stuff was mostly from the early, high fuel req calculation . Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  3. Agreed Leon, but the single TB is better for me to cut my teeth on OER's would look great though. Decided to do a quick valve lash check after a few miles to see if anything settled and pulled the plugs for a quick look also. Pretty damn happy with what I see , though it's lean more than I like. Took a shot at the 'auto tune' option (VE analyzer ) that MEGASQUIRT offers with their Tuner Studio and it's pretty cool tech stuff. Basically it makes adjustments while you drive the car around and saves them or updates immediately - your choice. Now I'm a bit rich , but maybe a good time to bump up timing. Lots to learn
  4. So as you might have figured out I am kind of STOKED about this. This happened pretty smoothly all things considered. I committed myself after selling the Mikunis, which forced me to make this happen or not be able to drive my car this season. I also had major home improvement projects going on , including building a Z shop behind my house. The ignition side of this install I have been using for a year or so and it's been very stable and tunable. This fuel part included a lot more changes because of fuel pressure requirements needed converting from my carbed car. So far no leaks and very quiet fuel pump has worked great. The beauty of this is the options for tuning you can never achieve with carbs. I drive my car everyday and every chance I get - so being able to get in and turn the key to a well running sports car to run to the store or a cruise is awesome. I have lost nothing in regards to the driving experience compared to when it was carbed with the Mikunis. I never had the induction noise experience since I ran a CAI, not sure if I would have heard it with my exhaust anyway, so nothing lost there. Admittling the view under the hood is not as classic or pretty as the triples, but OER makes FI triples!!! I do miss the punch of the accel pumps of the triples, but I'll get this dialed the same eventually. When I get to the point where I'm feeling confident on tuning I will take her to the dyno. Since I bumped CR, I hope to see a little gain . Right now with very little tuning and conservative timing it already feels as strong as before . I want to thank Richard- chicken man- for helping me out getting a baseline tune going on this. As usual , the Datsunguys are a class act . These big projects can get discouraging and frustrating , but hearing it light off for the first time after all the work makes it worth while. Richard got on line with me and I was tuning at 11pm that night in the garage. I was in the dog house after that with the Mrs. since I stunk up the house with exhaust fumes , but I cooked dinner the next night and all was good. The next morning after Richard put a tune on my car I drove it on its maiden voyage to C&C . It drove pretty damn well too! No looking back to carbs again- for my car anyway Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  5. IT RUNS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT DRIVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! report back
  6. That tank probably won't fit -it's to wide. With your skills you could easily fix any tank. I went with a CJ5 tank but I wanted a centered tank to run dual exhausts-AND I wanted to be able to fill from the original door.
  7. Buy another z to put it in! Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  8. What's the weight of the lightened 240mm? Might be a good compromise . Mine weighs in at 17. Hybridz guy is using 350z flywheel -250mm - chrome Molly 16 lbs Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  9. I can't wait to finish my shop to start playing with sheet metal. I appreciate your effort to document so thoroughly these processes. I used to post up my projects all the time , so I know it takes effort to do this . I have a MILLER 210 that's needing to be used and my TIG skills needing to be increased. I love working sheet metal and doing fab work, but have lots to learn. Thanks for your contribution to the Z community Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  10. Make sure linkage isn't binding Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  11. Sounds like a vacuum leak . Did a plug of some kind pop off? Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  12. Jeff will pop in here but he does the 2.7 the other method. 2.8 block with 2.4 crank Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  13. What head is going on there Jeff Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  14. It will have to be - not turning back now. Getting close Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  15. I've been running this engine for a while, and I've done several compression checks - so I would be surprised to find something now. I am curious what numbers I will come up with at 10:5:1 !! Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  16. That engine has many hard miles on it so if it was broke I would know it. It lapped in like the rest . It's funny that I got a lot of crap for making my notches so big on my last block - but I guess I went to small here, and off target. I didn't see this until after my head was reassembled after lapping valves. I'm going to run it ! Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  17. Sorry Captain, didnt mean to not say thank you anyway. Valves looked great and cleaned up nice- the piston bore was something else though :-0 looks like #1 didn't get clearances correctly on the notching so it cleared itself. Tough motors these are! needless to say I opened that up a little. Pay no concern to the divot in the middle of the piston . Just hit the piston stop too many times timing my cam
  18. Damn that's rough Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  19. Did I say somewhere easy to find? Somewhere you can reach! I think your a bit paranoid that someone is watching - if they could really even tell what I'm doing. Give me a break. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  20. Valve cover intake is wall art at this point, but might be re - utilized later. Haven't done much of any valve lapping , so this is kind of new for me. Using a Permatex stuff Jegs sells and used my cordless drill . Just wanted to get a uniform seat surface and to check for discrepancies . Still need to do more work on the injector notched. I thought I had them big enough- but could see I didn't once intake was bolted up . Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  21. Well it's been a slow process , on step at a time . Trying to get a new shop built and doing this at the same time is almost too much. Got the wiring sorted and fuel lines plumbed and tested. The plan was to use a fuel injected head , but I wanted to do some work on my MN47 before I bolted it on. I decided to just make the E 88 a fuel injected head instead . It was going to take less work in the end and I know it's a good working head, so less unknowns getting the FI working is better for me. I drilled the head for the N42 intake and notched the ports for the injectors . I also shaved off another .020 off the head to get me to 37cc. The hardest part was drilling the head , there isn't much room for error and it's a bit of a challenge to mount the head for drilling to get it square. Going to do a quick valve lapping and head cleaning and call it good. The weather is getting nice and I don't have a Z
  22. Why don't you just try some 34 or 36 chokes first? So you started at 30 chokes? I'd keep bumping up and see if you can maintain drivability that you can live with. I know webers are easier to get parts for than the Mikunis. I was going to machine out my 32's to 34 Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  23. You've checked the supply line from Float bowl to nozzle that it's not collapsing ? Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  24. I'll also say that it's a linkage issue? Are you watching the ends of the butterfly at the carb body and seeing motion while working the linkage. Like said above - if no suction(air) , no boom Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
