  1. So opening up the runners put you on the ragged edge of sealing with the O- rings? Nice job finding that
  2. I agree, your 280zx electronic ignition should be plenty good for everything. I'd say you need to work your SU operation and all other aspects of tune before spending more money on a different electronic ignition
  3. Jeessshhh Wade, Can't believe there's nothing to learn here for you. I'm quite sure if you were there you would straighten out Chris with your master mechanic knowledge. I kind of like threads like this that make you think 'outside the box'. I think we have all experienced some kind of anomaly when it comes to mechanical issues. Yes, there are the basics, but Murphy's law is always hard at work. I remember chasing a spongy brake in a Mustang for weeks. It was frustrating beyond belief-I mean it's just a hydraulic system. In the end I reversed bled a front caliper that pushed the air BACK to the MC. Never experienced this before, and never again. By all regular methods I couldn't get rid of the air. In the end, it might turn out to be a basic element that Chris missed, or he has 2 things going on at once. This happens when you change several things at once. I think maybe you(WADE) are thinking you might not get the CDS award. If it's that frustrating for you-how bad do you think it is for Chris. Tune out if it bothers you that bad.
  4. ...or dirt in the tank being sucked up and clogging your sending unit
  5. What also bugs me is your comparison of engine power to an inline 4 Honda motor. Not sure what your past experience with Z cars are, but these cars are very torque and it sounds like you have none. That coupled to having to run with the choke says to me that your float levels are lean. You should probably try to eliminate head gasket issues by getting a coolant tester or some kind of tester. Have you also experimented with timing changes? Try advancing without your vacuum advance installed to see how it effects power
  6. I would not recommend trying to pull or especially reinstall the cover with the oil pump shaft in place. Put the engine TDC and remove pump and shaft. Don't rotate engine. Don't forget the ALL the bolts that attach the cover. Try and work your gaskets free with a putty knife so they don't tear. Reinstall oil pump AFTER assembly to make sure the shaft mates properly with crank gear. Recheck timing according to manual
  7. Your timing issue is what bugs me. You seem to be all over the place. How did you find TDC? Have you checked your mechanical advance to see if it's in good shape? I would run without vacuum advance for now. If run about 12 degrees advance at idle-750rpm
  8. Mikuni 40phh intake runners - Fuel Delivery - HybridZ
  9. Chris, Have you put a straight edge across the EXHAUST manifold flange?
  10. Chris probably walked away for a while. It sucks when you get this frustrated-especially from a freak issue like this. You get to wonder about your luck. It's not like fighting a rusty bolt, which is understandably frustrating. Hopefully he walked away long enough to get some fresh eyes on the situation .
  11. So you know-good advice above. The diff will pretty much hang off the moustache bar after disconnecting the front of the diff- even without the nuts on there. The r180 is closer to 65lbs - so you can man handle it if your careful. Or balance it on a jack to lower it down.
  12. Sounds like you need to recheck your floats
  13. How do you know if and where the intake is leaking?
  14. I have quite the collection of jets anymore, so if you want to try something different, I can lend you some before you buy
  15. Bad float adjustment? Why did you adjust them?
  16. Rubber o rings still there between the carbs and manifold
  17. Highest vacuum demands are when- Idling, decelerating , cruise
  18. Took them apart ? Or just separated them from the intake?
  19. Check out the 71 in Bloomington Indiana That's the one I worked on
  20. Give me a breakLOL Datsun : Z-Series White in Datsun | eBay Motors
  21. On hard RIGHT turns the left tire rubs? On my car, the passenger rear tire rubs the wheel well worse then the driver's side. We talked the other day, I see you learned to post pics-your car looks great.
