    The world seems to work at 70% and "good enough". These days it seems you have to do it yourself to get it done right. Artisans, pride, and care are long gone..... except in a few isolated places. So if you want balanced tires the first time you need to buy a machine or you have to settle for the 20th attempt. A good friend had the same problem getting his suspension set.

    no carbs...no problem...you can drive in electric car mode... just use the starter with it in gear to propel yourself.... not like an ion drive but just as much fun....and slow.
  3. For very precise control of the accelerator pedal and clutch, try driving in socks.... you can really modulate the pedals more precisely. Not practical but a fun experiment. Driving with winter boots or hiking boots has the opposite effect.... ask a Canuck (especially anyone in Alberta this week)

    I wish I saw this post earlier as I had the same problem years ago and figured it out. The interim trick to get out of trouble is to only turn the key ~ 90% of the way to full-stop when cranking. The underlying problem is that the contact for the ignition in the ignition switch is not making (probably due to carbon or corrosion) however the contact for the starter in the ignition switch is making....thus you get the starter but not the spark. If you only turn enough so that both contacts are making and avoid the carbon patch, it will both crank and spark. The fix is to change the ignition switch or to really douse it with contact cleaner. Here is the required replacement part:

    ZX distributor upgrade is more for increasing reliability and decreasing wiring complexity. It is not for performance (with respect to non-points distributors from Nissan). A hotter coil will produce a spark that will burn through/ignite a tougher charge in the combustion chamber but do you really have that challenging charge to burn? Lubricating the distributor and replacing old spark plugs may help more by improving higher rpm spark timing performance, improving mechanical advance and improving wet weather spark.
  6. Carbs may be out of balance What do each of the 6 plugs look like starting with #1 (near radiator) to #6 (near firewall)

    The stock coil should be fine.... even the ballast resistor. If you go higher compression then maybe you will need high voltage.
  8. I guess I should have used a numeral or hyphenated further. The "non-series one" above is a bit awkward Hi Jeff, Yes I thought G-Nose too as they seem to be on later VIN Z's. I was looking for 432 and ZG pics but I can't seem to spot these brackets.
  9. The metal pockets (also on the front of the lower rad support) on the passenger side (right of the right (passenger) bracket) look interesting as well.
  10. Hi Rob, Series 1 is a slang term for grouping the first North American HLS30 models made between Oct 69 and Jan 71. The typical way to identify a car in the group is to look for the hatch vents that were later replaced by B pillar vents ~February 71. note: there were many changes between 69 and 71 so there are differences in the Series 1 group. The north american 240z's production continued into 73.
  11. This non-series one has them too
  12. Hi Jim, They are on VIN S30-00002 I check all of my other photos of early vins and they are not on any HLS30 photos I have including HLS30-00013
  13. Does not like the trucks though:

    Does the water in the rad bubble if you start the car cold with the rad cap off? Pressure in the coolant system can only be caused by heat or head gasket leak.
  20. That made my day...thanks! 1DPONG||
  21. Flat is probably good for "quiet", I had one stuffed way up as high as the tail pipe would go and it was loud. Even dropping it a couple of inches made a difference so flat would be even better.
