  1. I think some of you Texans are cornering the Silver Z market.

  3. Using grommets for shock & vibration isolation helps with the rad welds/brazing too.
  4. Kats, that is the famous cobbled Paris-Roubaix road that is used to destroy cyclists I was impressed to see Nissan using similar to test. ?????? - Wikipedia
  5. It's difficult to get at the rears to re-pack. Bicycles have passages in the hubs for forcing in new grease that pushes out the old. I bet this could be done with the rear hubs but the volume of grease in the central cavity is very large. This would have to be filled first in order to use the bike hub method.
  6. clean the throttle valve switch then dry it. Also check temp sensor connections.
  7. Oil only dampens piston vibration and controls movement of piston during acceleration and deceleration. Thicker oil enriches acceleration and leans deceleration. Thinner oil leans acceleration and enriches deceleration. Spring and weight (added to piston) affect height of piston at each RPM. More weight or stronger springs keep piston lower than norm at an rpm. This restricts air flow but causes more depression and draws more fuel however the annular puddle of fuel around the needle is also reduced with lower piston height so the extra fuel added by the depression is not linear. Simply lowering the jet or shaping the needle may accomplish adding more fuel w/o the restriction of doing it with a heavier spring or heavier piston. One wants the piston to rise to maximum height to minimize its airflow restriction but I'm not sure if it should be at max torque or max hp. (I would guess at the max torque point). Once the piston maxs out, all rpms above will draw more fuel as the depression increases in magnitude (more suction on the annular fuel puddle). I'd like to map this stuff someday. Cptn. Obvious and I had planned to do this but I moved from his neighbourhood too early. A few months with an engine dyno would allow for making math models for these adjustable parameters.

  11. fouled plugs and still running rich? Check your electrical connections and clean... it can hurt nothing: http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/electricalconnections/index.html
  12. Did you check the efi fusible link from the batter +pos to the fire wall area. Trace the power from the battery. You can get the wiring diagram here http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/wiringdiagrams/F77ZCAR-WIRING1.pdf Here is the factory service manual: http://www.xenons30.com/files/FSM/77_datsun_280z.zip

Could also be used as a bow tie for a robot
  14. For a new timing chain merely changes the rpm range where the valves work best. Position 1 gives more higher end torque and position 3 gives more low end torque. For a worn chain it can help get the valves to work back at their stock position.
  15. Hi Robin, I have a friend who was captured in North Africa and spent time in Italy as a prisoner. As the allies, advanced, he was taken North and eventually back to Germany. I bet he saw your dad's squadron up in the sky.

  18. Black plugs means running rich. Check the water temp sensor and associated wiring. If you drive again, bring a can of carb cleaner and a spark plug wrench as you will keep fouling up the plugs and it may not run again until you clean them. I had this happen to me once when the connector too the water temp sensor came off. Have a look here for info about what I am talking about: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/runningrich/index.html Check the pigtail connections too.
  19. This was an interesting thread...I learned a lot. Thanks! btw Jeff I am not used to seeing a non-yellow car in your avatar yet
  20. Check the spark plugs to see of they are black and sooty and report back.
  21. A non-points distributor is a great upgrade....especially at high rpms' yes get the piston at TDC then check the marks
