Anyone know about Jay Leno's Z cars?
- Picked up a granite surface plate tonight.
I just tried this crude "zone" technique and got outlier +0.003" to -0.002" variations skating over the surface with a dial indicator....with most of it +/- 0.001" http://www.ehow.com/how_7620766_calibrate-granite-surface-plate.html- Picked up a granite surface plate tonight.
Less than 1.5 thou. I have read: Source: http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=28101 "I also have a granite plate from Tesco. I checked it with a GOOD straight edge (a new "best" ruler) and could not get a 1.5 thou feeler gauge under it at any point on the surface. I reckon that it is good to a thou over its surface - more than good enough for workshop use. The smaller ones - down to "coaster" size may be useful for confined spaces! I'm ~ 200mi. Car is with the body guy touching up dings in paint. We just aligned the front panels this morning... car is 150km away.- Valve Cover Torque?

John, if I win a lottery I will commission you to build 10 track cars for our club and fly you here to provide a driving school. Plus I may buy a Lotus Elise....- Anyone cobbled 280z floor pans into a 240z?
Good enough... then I'll try it (and also ring Charlie O. for a double check).- Anyone cobbled 280z floor pans into a 240z?
My 240z needs pans and a friend has 280z pans. I am wondering if anyone has done this?- Ignition condenser
Some caps just fail open or closed when installed backwards. Some explode. If the cap is not marked (text or bands) and there are no different coloured wires coming from it then it is 99% likely to be a non-polarized cap and can be mounted either way.- Ignition condenser
Condensers are capacitors. In the automobile's ignition circuit, they are used to "pass" high frequency AC spurious noise transients (generated from the coil) to ground without affecting the DC voltage. This prevents cars from being radio stations broadcasting the hard rock sound of a band called COIL. (ie you would hear your coil on your radio and so would blasting equipment at construction sites The spurious noise can be drained to ground through the coil at the +pos side or the -neg side of the coil. Most capacitors are polarized and have a + and - side.- 240Z first lap of race at Laguna Seca
Love it! Thanks.- Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
Idle Mixture Screw Pitch on 40DCOE2 is 0.8mm I'll measure it on the 40DCOE151's when I get close to them(100km away presently) The other important part to measure is the taper of the screw. I'll measure that optically.- Hello from the Plastic Man

Tires & Wheels Suspension New Seat Belts (before track) Motor upgrades as a treat to yourself (after you are quick on the track)- 71 240Z muffler question.
I just installed the MSA Turbo system with the Dynomax centred/offset and found it very convenient to install with that architecture. It has the inlet in the centre and the tip offset. It allows the muffler to be installed tucked up high behind the wheel so that it is not visible from the side. Like this: More importantly it has a many degrees of freedom of motion so you can easily rotate the joints to get the tip right where you want it. Here are a few more reference photos of the geometry: The muffler fits twisted like this: You can move things to get the outlet centred at the perfect spot: Another angle: I used stainless steel band clamps to make the system adjustable in the future: I used an old hanger insulator as a stand-off to keep the exhaust off the differential and rear control arm crossmember: The wheel well: I just have to lower the muffler to fit dual tips to clear that silly bumper part that is dead centre of the tip. I also have to fasten the hanger near the front of the differential.- Is this right?
YEs... that is correct. It is a clever manufacturing economy.- Howdy From Texas
Love the new wheels!- What size Master Brake Cylinder and Master Vac for:
