Z store 72 240????
I saw that too! It also has an after market steering wheel, after market shifter. The front valance is beat up. The bumper overriders are missing .and I also noted the 280 hood. Do you think it had front end damage at one time? I really can't see anyone paying 25K for one of those and then changing parts on it. I also noted that the seller has no rating under that name. I'll pass on that one! -Dale-

Car keeps running after key is shut off.
My first Z did something like that. I had a bone stock '73 and sometimes when I would shut off the engine it would sputter then free spin backwards! If you had it in 1st gear and let the clutch out while this was happening it would lurch backwards! Very unsettling! I was led to believe that this could be caused by carbon deposits on the tops of the pistons igniting unburnt fuel after shutdown. Anyone else experience this? That particular Z had Over 200k miles on it and had never been apart. My current '73 has only 30k miles on it and it stops running the second the key is off. -Dale-

Electrical Problem
Definitely a Voltage Reg. Problem or associated wiring! I just went through the same thing when my VR went belly up. One word of caution. Do NOt disconnect the battery to prevent overcharging it if you need to drive some where! It will blow your dome lamp, Hand brake light, and heater control panel lights when the Amps spike. Actually I later found out that the Hand Brake light and heater control lights did not blow out. Seems that they have a socket with a ground tab on them. When the Amps spiked the Ground tab heated up and bent ever so slightly away from the ground connection and saved the bulbs! This can be remedied by simply rebending the ground tab back into position and putting the socket back in place. Good luck!

What is your favourite colour Z?
Hmmmm, Well, I'd have to go with burnt Orange. To me it looks great on an early Z.My first Z was the stock lime yellow. You could park it next to one of thse green/ yellow fire trucks and it would dissappear! It took a while but I liked that color too.

Voltage regulator: Rebuildable?
My orginal voltage regulator decided it wanted to boil the battery. Doh! I have a solid state model in the car right now, but my car is original enough that I would like to have the original Voltage Reg. in the car if at all possible. Does anyone rebuild these things? IT looks like it would be a rather simple job for someone with elecrical know how, which I do not have. -Dale-

Antenna switch location?
Where is the antenna switch normally located? In my ,73 it is in the middle position on the fuse cover. I thought there was a seatbelt light there on my last car. Where is yours? -Dale-

fuse box melting!
I have a '73 240Z that I picked up a little over a week ago. While driving at night I noticed a burning smell coming from the car and my tail lights went out. upon further inspection of the fuse I found that the the inside terminal for the PArking/tail lights had melted a hole in the base and cover of the fuse box! Doh! that terminal is now basically free floating. The fuse was cracked and had a white powdery look to it. Also it was broken in half. I replaced the fuse and every thing worked until I had to use the lights again yesterday for a 20 min trip. Same thing started to happen but I got to it before the fuse disintegrated. I'm thinking that somehow that terminal is grounding out right there since it is not blowing the fuse but baking it instead. Could a short somewhere else cause it to heat up at the fuse box, or is that gonna be the source of the trouble? Any ideas would be most appreciated! -Dale-

cuts off on me
Well, That would make sense. I have only had '73 240z's and they all had electric fuel pumps on them even though it is not mentioned in the Haynes manual until the 260Z. thanks for the heads up! : ) -Dale-

Low milage '73 240Z
I just bought this car last week. IT is a '73 240z with 30k original miles on it. All stock except for radio. (anyone have a stock one for sale?) runs great! No cracks or blemishes on dash looks almost new in throughout. It feels great to back in a real car again! -Dale-

Misfire on #3 cylinder
My first '73 240Z had a similar problem that came up soon after a tune up. It turned out to be a faulty spark plug! I would change that one plug out if you haven't already. also have you checked the valve adjustments? -Dale-

Air filter for '73
Steve, Hey! I lived in Woodland for 10 years! We moved over here a couple of years ago and I had been looking for a good Z since then. I got this one just last week. IT runs very strong but I need to find out why it stumbles so much. Along that line I am trying to eliminate things systematically.. The Carbs are the Late model Hitachi's ( Flat top). I had a '73 while I lived in Woodland and I don't remember ever having this problem with the filter or the two large holes in the cover. These holes look like they came in the cover. No evidence of hacking. -Dale-

Air filter for '73
I have an original '73 240z with 30k original miles. It is in excellent shape, no dash, cracks alloriginal hoses under hood etc. I am in the middle of a tune up and had some questions about the air cleaner. My air cleaner has two holes, @ 1" in dia, in the curved end of the cover that look like something attatched to it at one time. What are these for? Also someone installed a K&N air filter but it appears too thick. The cover won't seat against the back plate when installed with this filter. I picked a replacement filter at my local shop and it too was too wide. is it possible that I have an air cleaner from a 260? the prod date on my car is 2/73. any ideas wouild be appreciated.

cuts off on me
Though it's been a while since I had my first 240Z. I believe it has two fuel pumps on it already. One next to the fuel tank on the passenger side is electric and the one on the passenger side in the front on the timing cover is mechanical. Disconnect the fuel line coming out of the electric pump and check the pressure there first. If that seems ok then check the mechanical pump up front. First though, make sure the fuel filter is not clogged. Good luck!
