  1. How come they do not have both set-ups in the firewall for RHS steering? I would think it would be much easier to build all of the cars the same and then just use "block outs" for the side that does not need a steering column, M/C's, etc. If they built the door panels for both applications, I wonder why they did not build the chassis that way. Interesting!
  2. I have heard from several of you trying to sell me an assist grip for the DRIVERS door. It doesn't have one! I now know that after advertising for one in classifieds. My BAD! I have owned 5 Z's over the years. It has been 25 years since I owned my '70. I bought this '71 in CA and drove it back to Oregon from California. After having it for a few days, started stripping it for restoration. It has been 8 months and I am finally putting it back together. I found only one 'assist grip' and thought I misplaced one. After checking the situation out, I discovered the 240 doesn't have one on the drivers door. Ouch! You caught me on this one. I will never make another mistake at least for another week or so!

Get a tranny bolt and a 3/4" wide by 1 1/2" long piece of 3/16-1/4" thick steel. Drill a hole at one end of the tab for the bolt. Take a hack saw and cut a 'point' in the other end of the tab. Place/bolt the tab on the upper right tranny bolt hole in the block. Turn the tab so that it enters into a tooth in the flywheel. You may have to alter the "point" a bit to get it to 'fit'. Take a breaker bar and crank away. The crankshaft/flywheel will be jammed and not turn. After you take the H/B off and want to torgue it back on, move the tab over to the leftt side tranny hole and torque away. This is kinda crude but will work for someone w/o an air wrench! I learned this trick in 1965 when I started building race engines. Still have the "tab" that I made 40 years ago and it still works great!
  4. I guess this is the best fit they have. I am selling this spoiler and getting a BRE-like spook. I have a guy here that is wanting a spoiler. Good chance to sell it!
  5. I am leaning toward going more retro in my restoration. I think I will put the stock metal pieces back onto the Z and use a BRE-style spook. I think it will look like most of the Z's back in the 70's. It is too bad this new spoiler did not fit. I have no idea what they sent me.

I have the front of the car completed. I put in new blue vinyl above the W/S and on the door posts. It came out very good. I then put the door seals in the had a new W/S installed. I put the sun visors and mirror in place and the car looks like a new one! I have finally received the white diamond plate vinyl from Motorsport and have washed it readying it for the blue SEM. Once I get the shock towers and the shelf painted I can re-install the rear interior. The car is finally getting done!

I am wondering if this new glass will fit into the old mirror back once the old glass is broken out. I have done other mirrors but never the 240Z mirror. My thought was to take an impression of the glass opening and get a piece of glass ground slightly smaller. This way the new glass will slip into the s/s 'back' without interfering with the edges. It will be slightly smaller but once it is glued into place no one will ever notice. Let me know how the new glass fits into an old mirror. I am interested!
  8. OK! This is what I need to know. I will buy an 83 Maxima 5-speed collar (T/O) and put the newer aluminum slave cylinder in the car. I will also get the s/s braided line and bleeder. I will have a matched set and it should work just fine. I will let you guys know....
  9. You're correct there. I am thinking I may put the car back together with the original metal and put an eyebrow front spoiler on the car. I kinda like the retro look anyway.
  10. Thanks, that helps me with the transmission but what about the 240 vs. 280 T/O bearing collar?
  11. Lets look at this situation... If the Centerforce II clutch is thicker then the collar needs to be thinner to take the "angle" out of the clutch arm. Is the Centerforce Clutch II thicker or thinner. If you use a thicker 280Z collar, it must be a thinner clutch assembly, right? I have had two people tell me different things on this 280Z vs. 240Z T/O bearing collar. One said the 280Z was thinner and one (you) said it was thicker. I am curious about your installation. I am thinking that the arms are identical (in terms of fulcrum length) for both 240 and 280 Z's. Did you use the self-adjusting aluminum clutch slave cylinder? I do not understand the difference in the arms vs. slave cylinder? I will need to bolt the stock 240 clutch to a flywheel and the Centerforce clutch to a flywheel the measure the thickness of the diaphram from the flywheel. Once I know this measurement, I will know whether I need more or less collar. As long as we have confusion on the 280Z T/O bearing collar (thinner or thicker than the early 240Z) we need to know the clutch measurements. I'll let you guys know.
  12. I ordered 50-1402 for the 70-74 240Z. It must be for the later 260Z.
  13. I purchased a front air dam for a 70-74 Z from Motorsport. I had it painted and I am now ready to install it. After drilling the holes for the T/S and widening the front between the headlight buckets, I have it clamped into place. Here is the problem: The indentation for the bumper is about an 1" too short. My '71 Z bumper indent is longer than the fiberglass spoiler indent. The turn signals do not fit either. Have I got a late 260 spoiler? What is it?
  14. Great news! I now have it solved... I need to put in the shorter collar that I have. It came out of a 260-280Z. I will dummy it up on the floor to make certain the clutch arm is perpedicular to the tranny. I am certain it will be OK now that I have resolved which collar is which. A little bit of extra work on the shop floor is OK when you consider the work involved in taking the engine out to make this adjustment.
  15. I have a 2/71 240Z stock 4-speed. Is this an "A" or a "B" 4-speed? I am installing a 83 Maxima 5-speed. Is this and 'A' or a 'B' 5-speed? These things confuse the heck out of me!
  16. Looks a lot like my interior. My door panels are in better shape...Good chrome strips! I have repainted the plastic panels to match the vinyl. It looks very good! Thanks for the blue-on-blue ebay referral!
  17. Everyone agree with Mr. King? :surprised
  18. I pulled both bearings off the collars and cleaned them up a month ago. One is shorter than the other. Which one is which? I cannot tell which collar I should use (dummy!). I have the stock 240Z 4-speed T/O bearing collar and a 280Z T/O bearing collar. If I were to guess, I would say the 280 is the shorter collar. Can someone confirm this, please? :surprised
  19. I just ordered a set of white diamond-plate vinyl for my Z. I will paint it with SEM just like I did for the white vinyl I used for the windshield and door posts. It came out great and is a nice match to the stock interior. The paint people did a very nice job of matching the color. Blue-on-blue 240Z's are very rare. I will be happy when it is all done. And, I did it all myself! (I do not believe Too Intense has the blue diamond-plate vinyl)
  20. I ordered an interior kit from Motorsport about 2 months ago. They have not been able to deliver these pieces. Where else can I go to get the rear shock towers, etc. blue vinyl? :surprised
  21. Great idea Derek! I do not know how people do this operation but I would like to hear this exhaust system. How about one of you computer genius-types putting this on the forum?

I have the rubber brake lines that came with the calipers. I guess I can check the hardline to see what thread it is. It's been a long time since I played with brake lines. I will see what they have and get something ordered. No one around here builds/stocks brake lines. I need to go to a catalog in order to get what I need.

I have installed 95 Corvette rotors and calipers. I am wondering about the brake lines. Do I have to special order these lines? Corvette is also metric. I wonder if I can get some lines for a 'Vette that will fit. Anyone have any ideas on this?
  24. I am just trying to confirm this information. I looked in the Motorsport catalog and it states that "the 70-74 Centerforce II clutch utilizes the 280 t/o bearing collar". Thank you for the info. This is the first time I have seen this in writing. I will press a new bearing onto the 280 collar and put it in. I work by myself so I really do not want to have to do this again. I have many projects and I only want to do them ONCE!
  25. I have a Centerforce II pressure plate and disc. I have a 240 clutch arm, t/o bearing and slave cylinder. All of these items will be in a 83 Maxima 5-speed tranny with a stock steel flywheel. I have both collars available: 240 and 280Z. Which t/o collar works with the Centerforce II clutch? I need someone who has installed one of these clutches and KNOWS the correct info, please! Which throwout bearing do I use?
