  1. I now have a RHS 510 mirror, a RHS 1300-1600 mirror from Austalia but not 240Z RHS mirror. I am now looking at trying to heat and bend a mirror base so it 'stands' correctly on the car. If anyone wants to build a RHS mirror, I believe that can make a fortune around the world selling them. Why doesn't anyone build a resto mirror. It would take NO time to recover your costs. at $200/@, how long would it take?

Took my left side rear panel out and got to the antennae wires. I had carefully hooked up the power wire to ground. How could I have been soooo stupid. Hooked everything up correctly and the antennae works like a champ. I have the old system that you need to power up and power down the antennae.
  3. I have been watching this restoration at ZTherapy. I've "Been there...Done that!", so I know how much work in involved. Mikes car is spectacular. Can't wait for it to be completed.
  4. Here is what my splash pan looked like after massaging it, painting it and installing it. I think it helps to keep the engine compartment clean. Air flow better and the fan does not pick up the dust from the road.

Phred is also opening an engine shop for Porsches. He will do rebuilds and prepare racing engines. He will do well here. We wish him well!

I have a '71 240Z and a '72 510 tudor. My wife has a 2003 Acura TLS (260hp). This Acura is very quick. Looking at the post that a stock 240Z is quicker than an RSX baffles me. Here are the specs: RSX: 155 hp, 6 speed with a 6500 shift point I believe the 6 speed gearbox will be a huge advantage for the Acura over the 4-speed in the Z (Oh, you have modified the Z? 5-speed? Engine Mods?) Then you should be competing with the Type 'S' RSX Type 'S': 201 hp, 6 speed with a 8100 shift point. I believe this vehicle is very fast regardless of your mods. It is a hotrod! 35 years of technical advancement really do make a difference.
  7. I removed the gear and replaced the seal. It still leaks. What else could it be?
  8. My '71 Z leaks fluid out of the speedo cable when parked on the hoist. It sets up in the front. A pool of synthetic oil is always on the floor. When I park her on the level, no leak. Here is what I have done. I have replaced the "0" ring on the speedo gear housing. I have replaced the cable seal on the inside of the gear housing. I have changed the gasket on the speedo cable housing (that screws onto the tranny). It still leaks! Anyone have any ideas about where this fluid is coming from? It leaks down the outside of the cable and drips at the low point in the tunnel. There are NO other leaks in the tranny. I have replaced every seal and gasket in the speedo unit. What to do????

I think you should mount them where they are in the pic. You could do heel-to-heel shifting! Heh, heh! What is the ratio of this pedal assy. Looks like it may be 5:1 or more?

Looks like it is ready for the powder coater!

I sold that 240/280Z in 1980. The owner totalled it at Sears Point.

There is nothing prettier then a racing Z with a set of dual pipes pulling 7200 in 5th gear on a long straightaway. WhooHa!

My wife recently gave me a set of old bathroom throw rugs for the shop. They were faded and she wanted them out of the house so... Why not give them to hubby? I had her wash them and after examining them I decided to try them as fender covers on my Z. Man oh man do they ever work. They have a rubberized surface so they will not shift, they are thick and absorb dropped tools and they wash up after they get oiley. I roll them up to keep the bottom surface clean and store them under the workbench. After working on cars for 50 years, I finally found a fender cover that works. They just happen to be blue and my Z is blue. It just doesn't get any better then this! No Nissan/Datsun logo but they really do work.

I'd swear the gentleman said 'exterior' of his intake. I think having a nice finish on your intake is worth at least 5 hp!

I had a set of these on my CP 280Z. It came with 18" long stainless megaphones. The racecar had 2.25" pipes dumping into these 4" wide megaphones. No wonder I cannot hear!

I also have a polishing motor like the Eastwood. I got mine at Harbour Freight on sale for $79. I have done some serious polishing with it. I have 3 sets of wheels. I have one that takes out scratches and hammer marks, one that rough polishes it out and one that does chrome-like polishing. I have done door sills, hubcaps and grills. It works great on stainless steel parts. Don't know how I ever got along without one of these wheels. If you are into restoration, this is a must!
  18. I also had to modify the tunnel for my 5-speed. The tranny is the same length as the 4-speed. The only difference is the shifting mechanism. OK... We have that solved!
  19. When you say "shorter" do you mean the shifter is shorter (closer to the engine?) and you need to modify the tunnel? What about the driveshaft? Did you need to shorten it? I am curious about this "shorter" 5-speed.
  20. They come both ways. The comp box was a direct-drive 5th gear. It was developed for higher horsepower engines. My '83 5-speed is a .745 O/D. The ZX's came with a .830 O/D or somewhere close. I went with the longer O/D with my 3.9 L/S R200. I do not know if you can find one of these older trannies with the D/D 5th gear. I have never seen one advertised. I guess they were used up by the old racers!
  21. Here is what the 5-speed looks like on the INSIDE. This is the rear unit for the 5-speed. It will tell you whether you have a 4- or 5-speed. The 4-speed came out of a 2/71 '71 Z. The 5-speed came out of a '83 Maxima. I used the original driveshaft (w/new u-joints) when I installed the later 5-speed.
  22. Here is a pic of both trannies. The 5-speed has a larger/longer case.
  23. Mike: I fear if she does what you recommend, she will still have pressure build up. The master cylinder is not 'relieving' itself. I think she needs to install a new/rebuilt booster, check her pedal linkage clearance and she will be good to go.

That's it exactly. I went to "Clydes Locksmith". They are into the 3rd generation of locksmiths. Opened in 1936. He actually went into his 'vault' and came out with new door/lock covers. He said he had had these for 30 years. He was proud to do the job and was interested in my restoration. Maturity is a wonderful thing!

This kid set himself up in a drift just before the pick-up stopped. The entire front end of the Civic was G-O-N-E. It was just like in the movies except he has to pay the fine and the expenses.
