Old Nissan Cedric
That story reminds me of another Jap car with a questionable name. Mitsubishe, having produced the Colt during the '60s (and with Ford selling the horse-named Mustang), they brought out the Starion. Which, if you were Japanese is how you would say Stallion! Surely there's some Jinglish confusion going on there!?!

Fan clutch bearing
Would it be easiest to get a fan clutch made to suit another model car? I know MSA stocks replacement ones but they're expencive, especially when you factor in shipping to Australia! Has anyone had any results with any other brand of fan clutch?

I've just scanned in the product from a 2003 Jaycar electronics catalogue. I'm not sure if they are still made, but here it is anyway. Their contact details are: int'l phone +612 9741 8555 Website

Fan clutch bearing
Could the bearing be pressed out with a hydraulic press or something? I can't see how the bearing and the disc have been assembled to take it apart though. Have you gone for a fan clutch swap from another z 'Zedrally"? Or have you adapted one from some other car? Has anyone else found an effective non-z replacement?

Jaycar used to stock some of them here, but i don't think they still do anymore. They are good for showing a general level - like if you're way lean or rich. BUt, they tend to sor of show up a couple of LEDs at a time apparently. I don't think that they are good enough for selecting a new needle or anything, but would be interesting to look at nevertheless. I think Jaycar also stocked a realtime LCD thing with a bargraph and 3 figure (eg 14.2) display that would be slightly more useful. Let us all know if you have success (or dissappointment) with a particular method/product, i would also be interested in a simple set up like this if it worked well.

Fan clutch bearing
I've taken the fan apart and drained all of the fluid (honey oil stuff) out. So by my reckoning there should be no viscous coupling effect from the input (engine) to the output (fan). But, if i try to spin the input shaft with the clutch all apart, i still have to grip the outside firmly to get it and the disc inside to turn separately from the outside. Is this stiffness, without the viscous fluid present normal? Or is the bearing shot?

Fan clutch bearing
G'day all. I looked at the posts on the net and they've been very helpful so far with dealing with my fan clutch. I'm swapping back to it 'cos my electric fan sucks - or more to the point it doesn't. But, after taking it apart, i still find it hard to turn the bearing (while it is apart) (the big half). It turns, but it isn't exactly free to spin. Is this usual? Is there some way i can get a new bearing so it can free wheel better? Thanks

Great work!!! I've been looking into doing the same swap somewhere down the line. Where did you source the head for this swap? Did you have trouble with the V-TEC? I've heard that's more trouble than it's worth... Anyway, thumbs up for a great swap into a clean car. Well done!

Are they HD8 (2") SUs? They, along with the rest of your engine and car look awesome! Good Job! Looks like you got the linkage sorted in you other photo.

Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Yep, that's been on the cards for a while now, not that that makes it ok! R32 skylines were just about to become readily available too! It's just frustrating isn't it... 30 years soon! What a load of utter crap.

Sitting in the garage for 24 years
It probably seems (or will seem) like a lot to. But, don't get daunted by the whole thing. Just hang in there - no matter what and it may well turn out to be one of the most rewarding things you ever do!

Stiff springs, standard strut inserts
If you are really tight for cash an alternative to buying new gas inserts for your struts is to take the ones you already have out and change the oil in them. The oil run in standard shocks is (usally) very similar to ATF and replacing it with say 30W oil would up the damping rate by about 40%. Munroe shocks used to (a while back) offer a stiffer shock for lots of models just by running heavier oil and the same valving. Wouldn't be too hard to do. Just need some new O-rings and maybe one or two other things. If you have the time this would be a lot cheaper than forking out for new konis or something.

Front View
Well, with the Datsun marque being so prestigious here in Aus, some good bloke decided to lift it - and scratch my bonnet while he was at it! While it's not a good job i don't mind the look it gives the front, well at least for the time being.

RB30 crank ?
Are RB25 heads hard to come by/ expensive? I've seen an RB30 dynoed before and after a head swap and make 30% at the wheels - no other mods!!! It's in that 21st Century performance book. Turbo it and that'd be an awesome swap... RB30DET.
