    Believe it or not, I have done this. You need a big screwdriver and a hammer to break the bead loose from the rim. Then you need two big screwdrivers and a lot of soap to pry the tire off the rim. It shoud take about 30 - 40 minutes per rim. I say you'd be better off paying the tire guy to get them off. It shouldn't be more than $5.00 each.

    It seems Nissan was not consistent in all markets. My 71 Skyline has two keys. A double sided key for the ignition and a single sided key for the doors, trunk, gas door and glove box. The Nissan part guys here in Japan claim that no such key exists because it's not listed in the parts books, yet on Yahoo Japan, they still sell locks with keys for this car that have a single sided key.
  3. It is still that way. Here in Japan, you can get fabulous tires that are not sold in America, and therefore, do not have DOT markings. It does not mean that they're not DOT compliant (I'll bet that a few of them exceed DOT stndards) but just that the tire manufacturer didn't bother certifying that they were DOT compliant . . . and why should they if they're not going to be sold in America . . . . .

  5. The Japan Times Online is the electronic version of the Japan Times, one of Japan's major daily newspapers. I think the fault lies in the writer, Mr. Justin Gardner. The tag line says "Special to the Japan Times." So . . . . he's obviously not a paid staffer, but I think, a freelancer. BUt the paper should have checked before publishing.

Yes probably true. The possibility of this part being installed on a USA car as a factory part bought through a Nissan/Datsun dealer is there. Was it? At this point, we don't know. And until we see pictures we will never know. Healthy discussion is good; flames are not. I don't want to see this board go the way of others - - - down in flames. There's a lot of good people and knowledge out there, and I'd hate to see it go away because of flames. my 2 cents.

    I use altavista's babelfish translator. Problem is that it tries to literally translate and it doesn't help much in some situations. "Cooler" usually means A/C. Oil/trans cooler would say "oil/mission cooler" Remember, they use a lot of British English and "Japlish" in their car talk. Bonnet = Hood; cooler = A/C; toranku = trunk; Go figure . . . .

    I do speak the language, but not fluently. Reading is yet again another problem. But you know what? When you talk to car guys, somehow, the barriers come down and you somehow understand each other. My wife (native Japanese) thought we were speaking some kind of foreign language - yes, it was Japanese, but car talk is car talk and if you don't understand, it's all Greek. You want to know my situation? I'm Japanese-American living in Japan. Look like everyone else, but can't speak the language fluently. Can't read other than the basics. It can be hilarious and frustrating, depending on the situation. I'm just here for the ride. No apologies necessary since I'm an oddity. Just happy to share information and meet great people on this forum.

    Rocky Auto is a car dealer specializing in older (collectable) Japanese cars. All their stuff looks to be top-notch, good running condition, turn-key cars. I've not been there, but I've seen their ads and website. They have a good mix of original, restored, and modified cars. I don't know if they buy the cars as is or buy and fix up - I would guess a mix of both. My Japanese is not all that great, but Systran makes a decent translator. A good indicator of a modded skyline would be 2.8, 3.1, RB20, etc in the description. L20 usually indicates a stock block, but who knows what mods were made (headers, triple webbers, cam, etc). In my opinion, unless it's a "Full Resto" there will have been mods made to the car. I have swapped my 4-speed for a 5-speed, put in a bigger clutch, larger power brake booster, Watanabe wheels, Fujitsubo stainless exhaust, headers, aftermarket stereo, etc. I guess it's all about what you want or are willing to put up with. I personally want the fixer-upper because you get to do what you want and do it your way. A turn-key Hakosuka with a RB20 motor in it would be really nice, but if it didn't start, would you even know where to begin troubleshooting? Just my opinion.

    Yes, thanks to the movie, everyone wants one; but it's just a fad and will eventually go away. Mention a S54 Skyline GT-B or a KPGC10 Skyline GT-R and you'd just get a blank stare. They couldn't tell you the difference between a Hakosuka and a Kenmeri to save their life. Heck, most of them couldn't even tell you what an RB26DETT (the engine in their beloved R34 GT-R) is. If you have 50 - 60 grand lying around, I could find you a genuine 71-72 KPGC10 Skyline GT-R. BUT consider this - engine and transmission parts for that car are mighty hard to come by, so that GT-R would most likely become a garage/trailer queen. Better to get a GT, GTX or GT-R lookalike. IMHO

    I copied the DVD to harddrive and burned it to CD. I now have 1 DVD with all the files intact and 5 CDs with only the PDF files. There are two other files on the DVD that I can't access and I think it's because it's either for Japanese OS or Nissan proprietary system. I'll ship you the 5 CD set if you want, but like I said earlier, it would be useless to have a parts manual for a 1969 Nissan Caballl truck.

    If you want to get a feel for the prices of these cars in Japan, you can check the following web sites (all in Japanese, though). Goo and Car Sensor are full retail, dealer sold cars - usually the top car on the lot.     Okay, I'm offering this up to the 240K group first. I have gotten a DVD with parts manual files on it. It is a copy of the DVD that Nissan Parts uses - basically scanned maunals in PDF files with Japanese menus. I will make this available to you for some ridiculous low price to cover my time, postage and CD. I CANNOT MAKE A COPY OF THE WHOLE DVD, as I have no DVD RW drive. I will only make copies of the manuals that are of interest/use to you (Certainly you don't need to have a manual for a 1969 Nissan Caball truck). So, here are the ones for the 240K. Remember, these are for Japanese spec cars, but most of the parts would fit your 240Ks.     Where on earth would people be shipping these cars to? Certainly not America or Japan. I know that the Japanese ship to Russia or Southeast Asia and make huge profits but these are 10 year old cars, not 30 year old cars like yours. I'll bet he sold it off to someone who happened by with a wad of cash. Like they say, money talks . . . . .

    Yeah, you got those. In fact, both of them are sitting in my tatami (straw mat) room, under the table so no one steps on them. The one you wanted, you didn't get. Didn't even bother to bid because it was already over your max price. I'll take some pics and post them up - or should I e-mail them to someone?

    Sounds like it's flooded. Is the return line to the gas tank clogged, blocked off or disconnected? I say this because when you shut off the motor, if the excess gas in the fuel rail (which is under pressure) has nowhere to go, it could backflow to the fuel pump. Hmmmm . . . maybe that's why sidedraft Webers tend to puke gas . . . .
