That car's definitely not here in Japan. No one I know of has that kind of real estate for a garage like that, let alone a driveway. The license plate is a Yamaguchi 55 Y plate, making it pre-1988. Since it is a Skyline Japan (1977-1981) it would be safe to say that the plate was issued sometime after 8/77. The Y denotes a US Military owner, and since they rarely bought new cars, it was probably tagged at the earliest in 1980 after previously being owned by a Japanese. How did the car get to the US? Free shipping courtesy of the US Military. Cars over 25 years old don't need to comply with US safety or emissions standards, making these easy to bring back. Yup, that's how my Hakosuka is getting back to America . . . .
  2. Sorry, that's only the chin spoiler that he's selling; not the car . . . .
  3. Here's a couple of links to some early Skylines up for auction in Japan. http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h30084483 http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k23443049 http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m17241703 http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h28528512 http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f34793307 http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b59572015

If you're really interested in these cars, I may be able to hook you up with someone to get one shipped to you. He just shipped one to the US. Unfortunately, his English language skills are about ZERO. PM me and I can give you his web site. It's a great place to just look . . . . .
  5. Jim, Can you get me a better, close-up picture of the center cap? From what Steve says, the stylised S could be Skyline or Silvia. May be able to get NOS here. VIN would also be helpful. No promises, Japanese are really weird when it comes to car parts. miles

I'm not so new here. Posted a few, but I really don't remember introducing myself. I also put up an avatar and signature, so I figure I'd test it out here. My car - the avatar - 1971 Nissan Skyline "Hakosuka" Why here? Lots of tech that is useful for old L-series engines.

The guy Brian refers to in the previous post has his web site here: http://www.71skylinegt-r.com. If you read the threads in Brian's post, it's all true. The car is a clone and is not 99.9% original. When I first came to Japan 4 years ago, REAL GTRs were going for about $75,000.00. Recently, though the prices have dropped to $40,000.00-$50,000.00. Sluggish Japanese economy, perhaps?

Monky's Office is a car dealer in Osaka. Web site: http://www.monkys.jp/e/BrianSkyline.htm. Actually, this will take you to the story of Brian's car. You can get to his home page easily. Rocky Auto seems to have quite a lot of old cars in good shape. I have not been there, but I have see their advertisements. I started dealing with Uchida Motor Works in Tokyo for my car. Uchida-san just sent a Skyline to America for a Japanese person who has been living there for several years. Looks like one more GC10 in America soon. Yahoo! Japan (web site (http://www.yahoo.co.jp/) has quite a lot of nice cars for auction. Car Sensor (web site http://www.carsensor.net/cgi-bin/CS/CSTOP.cgi?STID=CS0GNAVI&TRCD=TR001) also has a lot of cars. If you can decipher the Japanese, it's great. If you have Windows, you can install the IME function that will let you type Japanese characters for even better results.

Brian's Skyline bought from Monky's Office in Osaka Japan. One of only about 6 in the USA. Nice job tearing down and rebuilding. I wish we could do more of that here in Japan but the laws and rules are too difficult to deal with, although they have loosened up quite a bit. A friend of mine managed to make his 70 Skyline with an RB20 conversion legal, but it was difficult. My car - 71 Skyline 2000 GT 4 door. Coming to America soon. Let's get more old Skylines into America.
