I believe that those are towing hooks . . . Tow something with a Z? Go figure. Anyway, my Skyline has one in the center and it's a JDM model.

Kats, In 1970, $1.00 = Y360. So, Y1,850,000 = $5,139.00. Add shipping, customs, import tax, etc, and $6,040.00 seems to be very close, if not a little low. Value for the money? Certainly. But remember the mind of Americans at that time - Japanese car = cheap transportation. $6,040.00 could buy a lot more American car, so I think it would not sell well at that time.

A daily driver should be just that - something to drive every day with no worries. That said, mine is a 2002 Lexus GS 300. Reliable, comfortable, solid. Buy something that fits your needs and budget. All carmakers make lemons; some more than others. Foreign or domestic? Who knows what's what anymore. GM and Ford build in Canada. Toyota, Honda and Nissan build in the US. VW builds in Mexico. The global economy had made strange bedfellows and there are more to come. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here and repeat it again: Buy something that fits your needs and budget.
  4. Aussies may be willing to help you out on the shipping . . . but it may be very expensive.

It's a museum of some sort. Too bad they cut off the rest of the sign board, otherwise we could find out where it was located.
  6. A lot of JDM cars have the VIN plate screwed on to the left inner fender. At least that's where mine is . . .
  7. Long story. You can find it in here somewhere.
  8. There are definitely limits on packages being sent through the mail. And they differ from country to country, so what may be ok to send out from the US, it would not be acceptable by the Australians. The USPS web site has a lot of information on this. The big stuff is shipped by air cargo or ship. I know, because I shipped a lot of that stuff.

I have an old 1.5 ton Sears floor jack. They don't make them anymore. The only davice I can give you is to make sure you get a low profile jack. Some are just too high to get under the car.

I was going to tag this on to the original post, but decided to start a new thread instead of muddying up the original thread about the QLD Kenmeri. Alan posted a chart showing the C10 serial number sequences. The sequences intrigued me because there were several suffixes that I had not noticed before. On the KPGC10, there are two series listed, KPGC10T and KPGC10TN. The "T" designation calls for the use of high octane gasoline, while the "TN" designation calls for the use of regular gasoline. Since ALL GT-Rs came with the S20 engine, why do you suppose there would be a series designated to run on regular gasoline? Was there a low power variant made that could be run on regular gasoline? I can understand the GC10 designation of "T" and "TN;" the GT with the single carburator running on regular gasoline and the GTX with twin carburetors needing high octane gasoline. Any answers, insights, guesses???
  11. Sometimes, it's WHO is looking and WHEN the stuff is up for sale. I bought a few things very cheap after losing out on the same item several times to high bidders. I figure that everyone who was looking for the item bought it at the higher price and I got the same thing after no one else was looking for it. Sometimes it pays to be a first time loser . . . .

I have read many times here about the problems of the flat tops with the square mouths. I am just curious about the flat tops with the round mouths. I thought that Roger may have had those. Apparently, the round mouth flat tops were a Japan only carb.

Rogersz and Mike . . . What kind of flat top Hitachis are on your cars? From what I have seen on Yahoo Japan, there are round mouth flat top carbs. I'm no expert, but the main complaint in the US seems to stem from the square mouth carbs and replacing them with earlier 240Z round tops (with round mouths) fixes the problem.

Knowing that the parts are NLA helps fuel this desire for spares. I have a spare set of trunk hinges for the Skyline because the right side one wears out and is NLA. The left side is always good and they are still stocked by Nissan. As said earlier, "just to have a different look" is yet another reason. I have 3 valve covers but only one motor. One is a plain stock cover, one is a crinkle coated black cover with the raised parts (NISSAN OHC, etc) unpainted and polished, and the last one is a fully polished NISSAN 2000 OHC cover. I'll give tha last one "collector value" points, but I do intend to use it on the car occasionally. My point is that spares are needed and hard to find. Collect them when you can, but don't make it a budget buster.
  15. Gary, The screening process asks the question. I don't know what happens if you answer "yes," but you'd probably be disqualified. Check their website.
  16. Try Grundy. State Farm also offers it, but you have to insure all your other vehicles with them to get it.
  17. I remember those. They were sold at auto parts stores in long rolls, usually in black with "chrome" edging. Cut, peel, and stick. If you didn't know how to do it right, it would be wavy. We would tape a straight edge (usually an old fashioned yardstick) to the car and use that as a guide to keep the moulding straight. If done correctly, it did add to the visual lines of the car while protecting against door dings.
  18. There's the rather famous Silva brothers of Hawaii - Sterling, Quick, and Hi-ho. Really. Look them up in the phone book.
  19. As far as I know, they made two types. The earlier one was an aluminum channel that was riveted on the car. The newer one was a plastic channel that was taped to the car. Both types could be had with numerous colored inserts. The older type was more durable, but there was the problem of rust, holes in the body and dissimilar metal electro-something or other (aluminum rivets rubbing on steel body panels). The newer one didn't have the rust problem, but was prone to cracking, being that it was plastic. I haven't seen them in a long time and I'm not sure that you can find them anymore.

There were many keys used by Nissan, and they don't necessarily interchange. Mine are a rectangular double cut for the ignition and an oval single cut for everything else. I had two key blanks that Stephen posted and the locksmith wouldn't cut them (thanks!) because they were not going to work. They were a little bit different. I got a blank (new type) from the dealership that looked like it would work, had it cut, and it didn't. The round "N" keys are very difficult to find and expensive. The last ones that showed up on eBay went for a lot of money. I use generics and keep the originals in a safe place.
  21. Hate to hijack, but I believe that it is DOT rules that the cars come in with DOT approved tires or they are changed to DOT approved tires before getting the ok. I had to have DOT approved tires on the car to ship (military is so strict). But, I would venture to guess that unless you have really strict vehicle inspections, non-DOT tires would not be a problem. I have yet to have my tires looked at by the vehicle inspector. I think the bigger problem may be getting the tires into the US.
  22. That`s a rare part for a 2000 cc L-6. Yes, it will fit on any L20/24/26/28 engine. They go for a lot of money in Japan. Please, get it to someone who needs it or treasure it yourself. I should know, it took me almost a year to get mine.
  23. Alan & Lachlan, Sorry, but I`m tied to a dial-up connection at the time, so I don`t hit the site as often as I like. Right now, I`m in Japan on a ADSL connection, so I can be on a bit more. Going back to Hawaii today . . . vacation is over. Looking forward to cable connection soon. I just happened to come across the NH 119 at the local bookshop and guess what . . . Agree with you, Alan, I wish English magazines would give more press to these fine cars.
  24. Just picked up the latest issue of Nostalgic Hero and there`s an article about an S30ZG. It says that the owner is Alan Thomas of London, England. Nice article. So, Alan Thomas . . . is that you and your car?
  25. I wonder if the car is really in the US or not. Upon looking carefully at two pictures, I can see 3 JDM kei-jidoshas in the background. One is a Jimny (aka Suzuki Samurai) one looks like a Scrum (truck) and the last one is a van. They are all RHD and since they don't meet any US safety standards, are probably not allowed for importation.
