For 30k, it's not worth it. The body mods are not period correct. The interior is not in line with the body mods. The engine looks like a good one, but who knows what's been done to it. I hate to admit it, but this car looks more like a bosozoku car . . . . . .

KGC10 coupes are nice, but most of them have been butchered here in Japan. If you don't mind the challenge of fixing someone else's destructive habits, it's worth a shot. The last one I looked at had mis-matched front seats (passenger: stock; driver: racing), L28, triple webbers, unknown and very loud exhaust system, lowered suspension, and a lot of rust. The 4 doors lived a much better life, having more likely been family cars. Mine came with exhaust and wheels as the only modifications, rust free body, and a recent re-spray. You could probably get a feel for the shipping charges by talking the the guys thaat import the R33s into OZ. But you're right, FINDING the car is the difficult part. It took me over a year to get mine.

You need to get a parts book or CD to help you determine parts. Color should be fairly simple to determine since Nissan didn't offer say, 5 different whites back then as they do now. There's not many ZX owners that post here so information will be sketchy at best. I'm not trying to discourage you from coming and posting here, but maybe you should be looking for a ZX forum.

This is in Nostaqlgic Hero? Or Geibun Mooks?

Well, you need to get a "proper" top made up for this great project. Maybe you can find a donor car with similar dimensions. It doesn't actually look crappy, it's just worn and old. Good luck!
  6. L20A was made for the home market to skirt taxes. Anything over 2.0 L goes into a different tax bracket, and the cost is significant. So, yes, it is a home market only engine - bigger engines for the export market cars was made to make them more attractive to buyers overseas.

The gas man told me that the octane rating was the MINIMUM. i.e. 87 octane may be 88,89,90 you don't know, but it was at least 87. As Gary and Mike said, as long as it doesn't ping, you're ok.

Alan, funny you should mention that. When I was young, we had a couple of 510s and it confused me as to why the car was called a Datsun, but almost everything printed referred to Nissan Motor Corporation. The glass was marked Nissan, the owner's manual said Datsun on the cover, but in the back, was printed Nissan Motor Corporation, etc, etc, etc . . . . . The "disdain" (at least in Hawaii) was that when they changed the name from Datsun to Nissan, they had a few products that were not up to par. This had nothing to do with the name change, but people automatically assumed that it had some connection. Case in point: my friend had an 83 Nissan pick-up. Because it was a model change, some parts were '82 Datsun, and some parts were '83 Nissan. He always told me that he had to be careful about buying parts because some were Nissan and some were Datsun and it was because of the name change. True story. But I agree, Nissan should have never sold their cars under the Datsun name.
  9. Yeah, my mistake. I meant L16 with two cylinders added on. It was a late post and L20/L20A somehow got into my head at the time. I stand corrected.

My car's a Hakosuka, so I was going with 240Z. Lachlan's C110 is closer to yours, so maybe he could help.

Rebuild. It will be like new. Who knows what a used one will be like.
  12. If you don't keep sounding like a stuck record, the mistakes will become accepted as truth. We already know how hard it is to "right" the L24 story as originating from the L20A "with two cylinders added on"

I wasn't looking for expansion, just a name change. I realize that we're being given a "courtesy" here and don't want to lose the privilege. "Classic Skylines" works for me.

Look into KYB. I've got a set on my car. The front struts are 4 settting adjustable and the rears are 8 setting adjustable. I have them on 1 and 1, the softest setting - street car, you know.

The Z finned aluminim drums are supposed to dissapate heat better and were a popular upgrade. There are also finned iron drums that are not as efficient as the aluminum ones, but better than the stock ones. I am going finned aluminum drums once I get the car back to Hawaii. If the C210 and C110 are similar, the drums should fit.

I don't know, so I'll ask the question. Does the 240Zs only have one strut? I would think that some other strut from another car would work if it were the correct length and diameter. Just a thought.
  17. My avatar has my car in it. My gallery also has a few pics of my car (and others).

  19. No Z, but I took out a Civic with my 89 Camry wagon years ago on the freeway. He rolled up to me and started accelerating and decelerating, back and forth, challenging me. I just floored it and left him behind. 2000cc vs. 1500cc what was he thinking?
  20. Alan, Nice to see you back and contributing your knowledge. Never heard of Tekkamen here. Maybe no interest in the DR30s in this part of Japan. Lachlan, No I've never heard of the R32 being called Obakemono. Maybe I'm not in the crowd or it's not something nice. Bakemono translates as "monster" so it may be an equivalent to the Aussie "Godzilla." Obakemono means Ghost, so maybe the people trying to explaln this are trying to "formalize" it by adding the polite "o" before the word (Japanese is so complex).

Don't you have a C110? What is the problem? Are you swapping out C110 struts for C210 ones? I haven't seen C210 strut tops advertised, but I'm sure they are available . . . . But will they fit the C110?
  22. Yes, C210 is ""Skyline Japan." I don't know for sure, but Hakosuka seems to refer to the boxy shape of the car. Hako = box. I don't think the DR30 had a nickname. In fact, I don't think any after the C210 had one until the Aussies named the R32 "Godzilla."

I've done many a clutch job in the garage, but never a Z. Jack stands at 4 corners with the tires removed is a big help. Two or three friends to help will eliminate the need for a trans jack. A regular hydraulic floor jack (and the friends) is very useful to ensure not dropping the trans on the floor. Dawn dishwashing liquid takes out the trans oil that will get in your hair (remember to condition after because Dawn will strip out ALL the oils - trans and natural oils, leaving your hair very dry).

As brought up in another thread that was moved over to the Z side, maybe we should change this area's name. This is two-fold: one, to recognize the growing diversity of the cars here (C10, C110, C210) and two, to reduce mis-posts by others thinking that this is 240Z vice 240K. Suggestions ?
  25. Mine. Soon to be in Hawaii. 71 silver GC10.
