  1. Just installed a new old combination switch, and because I had my headlights jury rigged through an external switch until I got the opportunity to install this switch, I fear I have forgotten the proper connections. So, here are the colors and gender of the lines I'm trying to figure out. This is on my 1970 HLS, so only those with series I cars have the same type switch.Coming off the light/wiper side of the switch are five individual wires, four of which are bullet type disconnects, which has led to the confusion. The other one is a spade type quick disconnect, black in color and that hooks up obviously to the only spade connector in the dash wire loom. A blue and white male bullet hooks up with the blue and white female in the receiving connectors. That leaves me with a red female, white and red male, and a black female wire to hook up. I haven't got that many receivers . something is very weird here. Any insight, ideas would be appreciated.

I thought I had answered this a long time ago, but I'll try to list mine chronologically. 1971 Z Mustang electric blue 1979-1981. Destroyed in Ano Glyfada, Greece by a Greek running the biggest Stop sign in the country. 1970 240Z Corvette Bright Yellow L-28 w/ flattop pistons and 280Z 5 speed, 1982-1986. Sold when I had to go out to California to work. 1970 240Z 904 White. In the process of upgrading piece by piece. 2000-present.

I've acquired a set of 5 of these wheels in fairly decent condition. The question is what size tires were fitted to the 280ZX turbo 15" wheels. I imagine back in '82-'83, they would have been 70 series, but that may give me starting point for a 15 inch set of tires.
  9. York is less than an hour from me, but I'm not sure when I could get away long enough to take a look at the car. Maybe on the weekend.

The Autostradae of Italy are nothing like the Autobahnen of Germany. The attitude of the Italian driver is nothing like that of the German driver. Nuff said.:classic:

  12. GM's beancounters killed the Olds. They took any capability to have anything like the Rocket 88 of the fifties and the 4-4-2 of the seventies away from the division probably 15 years ago. It appears it was a conscious decision on the part of GM management. With Pontiac building the more youthful and potent cars and Buick building the land yachts, who needed the Oldsmobile? Not GM's beancounters. JMHO

The microfiche says all Stop lamps were the same until July 73.
  14. I'd love to find a set of them. This is the third 70 or 71 Z that I've owned and all of them had the totally mechanical type we had the first couple of years here in the states.
  15. Were the BRITAX belts three point; lap/shoulder arrangemnets, or simply the lap belt?

I found it and it looks as though I will be able to find both types of connectors there. I've got wiring diagrams for my 70 240Z and the 280, although the 280 diagram I have is rather hard to read. I think I'll be able to sort it out in the next few days and then get around to ordering the hard parts. http://store.yahoo.com/eagleday/elparandtool.html

A while back, someone posted a link to a source with a source for many of the connectors found on our cars. CRS has rendered me unable to recall where that link may be. If someone with better memory does, could you repost it?

The screw points look as though they will fit, and I know about the wiper difference, the thing I'm concerned about is the large connector. I have the the electrical knowledge and will try to source connectors to build a short jumper cable. I think it is doable, just don't want to reinvent the wheel, if someone has already accomplished the same thing.

I've obtained a beautiful example of, unfortunately, a late combination (Lights/wipers) switch. Question. Has anyone ever worked out the wiring/connector differences between the early/late switches. I'm looking at perhaps fabricating a jumper that will enable me to use this switch on my early Z. I really just want to get my headlights working properly again.

If you're using your back icon to get back to the home page, your response won't be there, because that is the page your computer has stored in it's cache. If I go back that way, I hit the refresh button and all is well with the world.
  23. Grounds, Grounds, Grounds. The Z's electrical system is notorious for a lack of adequate grounds. Check your ground connections and add some heavyweight extra ground points. Beyond that check for some choke point (resistance) in the lines running from your alternator to the internal meter. You're experiencing a major drop. I'd be looking for loose or cold soldered or corroded connectors.

Call Chloe at Midwest Z. That fuel pump is already up ehere I wouldn't mess with it. VB only wants $44.95 for it.

My 1970 Factory Manual alludes to that type of carburetor of L20 & L24 engines. It appears to be a two barrel downdraft carb, but I haven't a clue as to where they were actually distributed.
