  1. Gotcha. I run glass as well. My windshield is cracked, but the glass is clearer than my spare uncracked windshield, so I'll use the cracked one until it gets more pitted. They allow cracks as long as there isn't a structural weakness.
  2. Hey Jim, I looked at 123ignition and I didn't see anything for Nissan. Do you have any more details?
  3. You could always swap to Lexan and save some weight.
  4. I don't have any pics with the plastic edging removed, but you might be able to see how the brackets are installed in these pics. They are simply sheet metal bent to the right angle and they are held on with screws (rivets would be better). You can see that the ones in the grille opening are attached to the top of the valence with the bracket looking down. The bolts go through the L brackets and have a nut to keep them tight. The plastic is then held on with washers and wing nuts. It isn't a work of art, but the whole thing was made in less than an hour. We bought a 20' roll of the edging and we made at least one spare so it could be replaced if it gets torn or wears down.
  5. We kept the stock valence and added garden edging. It's held on with wing nuts, so it comes right off for loading/unloading. There are a series of L brackets with studs looking forward to attach the "airdam" to the valence. It works well and doesn't flex at speed. It comes off in less than a minute, looks pretty good and the cost was almost nothing.
  6. My DD Tacoma 4x4 was totaled in January when a woman forgot how to turn and plowed into me nearly head-on. It did $6500 in suspension damage, so the insurance company totaled it. Rather than look for another truck right away, I am driving a '97 Honda Accord that my dad gave me when he moved to Phoenix. Normally, driving a FWD car in the winter wouldn't be a big deal, but this winter is killing me. This morning, I went to leave for work and I got stuck in my driveway. The snow was just deep enough that it beached itself and then the front tires dug down to an ice layer and that was enough to bury it. It took 45 minutes of digging and rocking before I could get it unstuck. Once moving, it almost got stuck again. Arrrrgggghhhhh.
  7. We got 2 more inches of snow last night. Seriously, I'm out of places to pile it. :tapemouth
  8. This winter sucks. I have run out of room to pile snow and every few days we get dumped on again. The worst part is that it's still early February and we could have several more months of this crap.
  9. I bought new hoses from ZT and they were really soft. I ended up swapping them for clear hoses that came with my Mity-Vac vacuum pump kit. That way, I could see if I didn't have any fuel going to the carbs from the bowls.
  10. Why are all the recent ones kitchen places in the UK?
  11. I paid $195 two years ago to have the bronze seats replaced with steel and a 3 angle valve job. That included the seats.
  12. Again, flow data shows that the N47 is just as good as the N42 with square ports.
  13. There is nothing wrong with the N47. It got a bad rap before there was flow testing showing that it flows just as well as any head. It has the large valves and steel seats, but it just doesn't have the heart shaped chambers that the P79 and P90 heads have.
  14. This is a great thread. Keep the old pics coming!
  15. Correct, but we are talking two different things. I would never take 0.030" off an E31, let alone more. That's a tiny chamber and a really high CR number depending on head gasket and final head thickness. I was simply speaking to the need for tower shims at 0.030". If it were me, I would have scrapped or sold the damaged E31 and started with a P79 head to get a better chamber shape. For a stock street engine, I'd just pick up an E88 and be done with it.
  16. Agreed Steve. Getting the timing spot on wasn't very hard with the offset bushings.
  17. You don't have to use tower shims. My endurance racer P79 head was shaved 0.050" and I don't run shims. I get to the correct timing with the offset cam gear bushings as described in the "How To Modify..." book. Runs like a champ.
  18. Are you guys using junkyard RX7 pumps or buying new/reman ones? Around here, RX7's are just as scarce as Z cars and they simply aren't to be found in junkyards.
  19. It is missing too much material between the valves and around the seat. It could be welded, but again, heads aren't rare enough yet to justify the cost. What model head is that?
  20. Eddy67, Anything can be repaired, but unless the head is a full race head and that's the only damage, it's scrap and you should look for a new one.
  21. A rusty Zap is worth no more than any other rusty Z. The only Zap that might be worth more is one with all the decals and factory Zap parts. Even then, I doubt it would be worth much more than a regular '77.
  22. I see that there is a spammer in the 2015 ZCON thread as well.
  23. They look great. I like the 225/50R15 size. Back when I bought my Panasports, there weren't many good 15" tires available, so I went with 16's. I think the 15's look better and they won't rub as bad as the 225/50R16 tires.
  24. My bronze seats failed in my race car and I had them replaced with steel. It was only about $200 to replace the 6 intake seats and do a valve job. They did not have to cut them out.
  25. Old Alfas are really cool and quite beautiful, but you will be swearing at the Italian engineers on a daily basis after owning a well engineered Japanese car. There are several Alfas that race in Chump and the only ones that do well are the ones owned by the grizzled old guys who have lived and breathed Italian cars for 40 years. Like Guy hinted at, do it, but not until you can ADD one to the garage next to the Z rather than replacing your pride and joy.
