  1. Put '76 - '78 belts in your car. The shoulder retractor bolts to the strut tower rather than the roof. The angle might just be enough different to ease your pains. I don't think there are any differences in the body between the '75 and later S30's.
  2. They aren't perfect, but they do help a lot. I can tolerate the belts with the sheepskin pads, but without them, I had to wear a shirt with a collar so the belt wouldn't rub my neck.
  3. I have the sheepskin sleeves that Frank mentioned. They work great and stop the belts from sawing at the neck.
  4. I'm out of town this weekend, but I will check McMaster Carr again when I return home and order the supplies. I looked at a hardware store today, but they only had standard all-thread. I think I'll go with hardened 3/4" Acme all-thread. I'll need to ask a friend to drill the rod ends on his lathe so I can tap them. For the prototype, I'll use S30 front strut thrust bearings. If the tool works as planned, I'll find a similar bearing that I can buy since I only have a few old strut bearings laying around. It sounds like I have at least a few interested "customers". I am not going to charge any more than what it costs to make them. If the first batch customers like the tools, I might make another batch, but to start with, I will just make a few.
  5. OK, OK, I've been dragging my feet and haven't ordered the materials since my Z is still stored for the winter. I'll get on it and buy enough to make several. Once I get the tool built and dialed-in, I'll sell them for as cheap as possible. My goal is to improve on the ones currently available.
  6. I mailed a check for a ticket this morning. I sincerely wish Victor and his family all the best.
  7. Wow, sorry to hear that!
  8. I'll post my 260 race car before and after pics. Keep in mind that it's still a POS with a rolled-on paintjob, but it went from a barn to a race track in 8 weeks.
  9. Probably somewhere between $300 and $600 with the trans.
  10. It took me a lot of fiddling grinding, adjusting and shimming, but my '78 hood latch is now just right. I actually can shut the hood in one motion. I used to have to hold the handle up a bit to get the first catch. The best Z sound is the intake sounds from triple carbs. I miss my triples. :disappoin
  11. True. That hatch strut sound is unique.
  12. Is that deal on again? I thought it ended several years ago. That's a heck of a price if so.
  13. I now have a '75 tank in my late 260. The '74 and '75/'76 tanks are the same other than the baffle can around the fuel pickup and the later tank has larger nipples for the supply and return lines. The tank drain is moved a bit as well. Compared to a 240 tank, the small vent line is located in a different place. The 260 and early 280 tanks have the small vent nipple on the back side under the large fill vent. On the 240 tanks, the small vent in at the left end of the tank. I think I read somewhere that the '74 - '76 tanks are larger than the '70 - '73 tanks as well, but I'm not sure where they gain the volume.
  14. Can we get pics of the inside too? The outside looks great. I found that I could get good pics by putting the camera lens in the filler neck and shining a light through the sender hole.
  15. Or 227 Orange. Scratch that. Your chart doesn't show orange after '73.
  16. Yeah, mine is missing the rubber ends, but I paid $350 for the car and they add weight. I would have removed the bumpers altogether, but they do a great job of protecting the body during a race. As for the color, look here. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47606&d=1313534575
  17. ms260z, You have a late 260 like mine and somebody simply painted the bumpers white.
  18. Hmmm, I didn't think about the indentations in the quarters. The OP said that the front wasn't stock, so we just relied on the build date. You are right though, the late 260 didn't have them. Hey Dr. Wombat, can you post your VIN? We can tell more with that. Here is my 11/74 260Z without the indentations in the rear quarters.
  19. Just leave it. IMHO threads should be deleted if there are personal attacks or wrong info that can mess up future searches. Neither occurred in this thread.
  20. There should be lots of available houses to rent since a lot of people have fled the state and couldn't sell their homes. Look in Plymouth, Northville, Novi, Farmington Hills, and Canton if needed. Try to stay west of 275 if possible. I'll let you know if I hear of anything.
  21. Right down the road from me then. Cool! Let me suggest that you try to find something in Plymouth rather than Canton. I lived there for three years and couldn't wait to leave. Plymouth is much pricier, but it's worth it.
  22. Since you are heading to the Detroit area, try contacting Reliable Carriers. They specialize in shipping cars for the OE car companies and one of their three hubs is in this area. It's possible that you can get a discount on a less than full truck that originates in the south and heads this way. http://reliable-carriers.com/default.cfm
