help ?
Ok not sure where you think only the 4 speeds are in 240z, as the haynes manual I have shows it also has the option for 5 speed trans. either way my filler bolt was stuck and was not able to remove, and with successfull searching it seems the reverse light could be removed and used that as a filler. I put in synthetic gl5 fluid in the trans and it runs beautifully! I also ran cd2 in the motor to help break up the sludge in the engine then ran 10w30 synthetic oil. car RUNS MUCH BETTER!! the only issue i have so far was when i bled the brakes no matter how much i tried i still had bubbles coming out of the line. I used a vacum/brake bleeder thing. with 20psi vacume on the bleeder ends of the caliper air CONTINUED to come out.... not sure if something could be wrong with the lines or something wrong with the master cylinder. any ideas ? also reading the haynes manual there is a plug to remove for draining the coolant fluids.. on the light hand side of the engine. any idea where ? my next issue is the shifter is sloppy but on the zhome.com page there is a how to, to help remove the sloppiness out of it.

help ?
Ok, I just bought a 1972 240z. l24 i assume with mt 5speed. I plan to do a full oil, trans, coolant change but lack the knowledge of what these engines take.... so far i bought 8 quarts of 10w30 synthetic ? and unsure what to get for the trans fluid. already got water wetter and some radiator fluid and some dot 3 brake fluid to change that out. there was no manual with the z to check what fluids i need. if someone could post the requirements i'd appreciate it.

how much power!
as i said before it won't be carb'd it'll be using fuel injected throttle bodies i plan on buying a intake manifold from tws and some webber doce throttle bodies. along with a dta engine management system dta got "1970 Datsun 240Z 3.1L engine with Garrett ball bearing turbo 720cc inj 550 BHP / 6200 RPM @ 1.4 bar" so i'm aiming for around 350-450 I plan on ceramic coat the tops of the valves and pistons. and to use an hpc coat of the valve springs and conrods. i'll have the ld28 crank knifed edged and balanced along with the rods and pistons. I also plan on doing a port/polish on the head with a 5 angle valve job on the exhaust and a 3 angle on the intake. I"m seeking a 8.6 cr with dished pistons. 2mm head gasket the turbo will be spooled of a try y header of some sort. (custom) along with a manifold to mount to the individual tb's i'll also be converting the distributer to a non distributer system. probably using a mis dis2 err whatever it's called unless the DTA system can do it. any other suggestions you can give me i'd appreciate it.

how much power!
This should be simple! how much power could i squeeze out of 1982 L28 f54 block with a 1983 P90 head ? with a Ld28 crank balanced and lighten'd along with forged pistons and rods fully balanced and coated! I plan on turbo'ing the motor and switching it to a fuel injected system and to a distributerless system. I know it's possible to do this with some time however I would like an estimate of what i could pull out of that engine. Thankz Nick

wish to rebuild 240z!
wow! ok well i'm not completly rich but this is going to be a project. so time is of no essents right now. but if you think a diesel crank would be not worth the effort then I'd take your word for it. the p-90a head ? ok well looks like i'll go look for that head then how much boost do you think this engine could take ? before it starts to detonate or blow up ?

wish to rebuild 240z!
well i'd prefer to get just the block and rebuild a new engine with dished pistons overbored to a 3.1L new rods and a diesel crank i think ? if it's older that 73 ? well the L28 engine didn't come out till after 73 ? which means it won't be exempt right? or have they made a l28 before 73 ?

wish to rebuild 240z!
ok my main question is this i wanna rebuild one with a L28 motor and a E88 head as i do plan on boosting this monster. however i'm kinda confused as to the emission laws since i'm mix matching engine parts how would you class this ? would it still be exempt from emissions ? or would it follow the emission standards for the head or the block ? i thought of twm fuel injected kit to convert the engine over. also how hard would it to over bored the engine to a 3.1L? i'm really confused about this stuff as i've never done a full engine rebuild but i wanna learn. i plan on doing this as a project car. and i just love this body style
