77 v8 z car on ebay: scam?
Have seen this type of scam a couple of times recently. One was a Corvette, and the other was a Challenger R/T. Both stated that they were having trouble with their ebay/contact button, so instead to contact them via a different email account. Both also stated a "Buy it Now" in the auction description, but not did not have the buy it now button up top. The "Buy it Now" price was very low. The Mopar was in Austria. It seems not only have these people ripped pics from previous auctions, they have also temprorarily hijacked user ID's from unsuspecting Ebay users. Hence the "contact thru ebay is not working" statement, followed by a seperate email. The Dodge I mentioned caught my eye because the vehicle's location seemed to be 15 minutes away. After an shooting an email to the address the seller listed, I received a reply saying the car was in Austria, and could be shipped to anywhere in the USA if "buy it now" was used. The entire cost of the Dodge Challenger R/T convertible including shipping would have been $6500. Yeah right. The email response basically looked like a form letter with my name inserted. Anyway, I guess the best thing to do in a case like this is to contact the seller via the actual account contact instead of the address listed. This will at least make the actual account owner aware he is being used. Later

240 to be gone for good
Just wanted to comment on meeting Zdreamer and her husband today. Earlier in the week I spoke with Zdreamer and set up a time to run by her place and possibly purchase some parts. Of course the weather was dry the entire week, until today that is. When I arrived at her home, it was raining and cold. I let her know that I was interested in a part, but would run out to a local burger joint and give the rain a chance to slack up before attempting removal. Well, the rain had different plans, and when I returned it was coming down harder. Little did I know that while I was stuffing my face at the fast food place, Zdreamer and her husband had constructed a shelter with a tarp over the car to keep the rain off of me while I worked. The both of them went out of their way to accomodate me while I was there. This is the kind of people that make this site amazing. While I was there, I had a chance to see Zdreamer's project Z and can tell she really has this car in her blood. Today's experience is really what this site is all about, Z enthusiates helping others with the same passion. It was a pleasure to meet you Zdreamer (and spouse). I will keep my eyes peeled for the parts we spoke of. Remember the 260, it you need anything. And hey.....don't scrap it yet.....I may be back for more. Thanks again.

Filler on roof........normal?
Hmmm....thanks for the responses. At least it does not seem to be a rarity. Maybe since the roof is such a large spanse, slight imperfections are harder to see on the bare hazed metal than they would be after painted. So far there is no indication of someone sitting on it as mentioned above. I am using stripper to remove the paint and it is actually working very well. I have noticed scratches on the metal that seem to have been caused by a heavier grit sandpaper. Obviously the previous paint guy did not work his way down to a finer grit. Still, the scratches I would think are light enough that the primer would hide them. We shall see. Maybe I'll use a short straight edge after I get all the crud off, and get a better idea where the imperfections are. Anyway, you all have eased my mind a bit now that I know this is a more common finding. Thanks again.

Filler on roof........normal?
OK.....I'm pretty green when it comes to body work......but I am a welding fool, and not scared to dig in. Anyway, I have just started stripping the paint from the car and have noticed plenty of filler/bondo on the roof. When I remove it and get down to the bare metal, there is no rust, or noticeable uneven spots. Keeping in mind this is from the untrained eye viewing sandpaper scratched metal. This car has been repainted at least once in its lifetime, and it was not a prestine job. Is this common to find filler in this area on what seems to be healthy metal? I am not talking quarter size spots, it seems to have been spread evenly over large areas. Probably a dumb question, and this may be the way its done......just clue me in. Thanks people.

Weight of stripped car?

Weight of stripped car?
Just curious if anyone has an educated guess on the weight of a stripped 240z. Engine, transmission, doors, all the way down to the hull. Am working on a rotisserie alternative and this info will help. I know I saw a thread here in the past where someone stated that they were able to take lift one off the back of a trailer using only 4 people. Thanks.

To Trade Or Not To Trade?
DO NOT get rid of the Firebird. My 2nd car was a 68 Camaro, and I let it go years ago. I would love to own another, but they are priced way above me now. Will attempt to dissolve my regret as much as possible with my Z, but I will always wonder what became of it. I was young, made a booboo. Given the chance......I would still have it. Will not make the same mistake twice......the Z will stay. I can live off bread and water.

How fast will it really go?
Try to gather the dough and build the car as soon as possible. If you make this a multi-year project, you may in fact start to value your own life before the project is completed. It has been my experience that as the years pass, the less immortal you start to feel, and the responsibility gene kicks in..... at least for most of us. Fear not.....this metamorphosis does not alter the appreciation of a wicked Z, it only steers it to a safer track. One last thought. When you make that first 170mph test run, have your lookout friend dump about 400 pounds of marshmallows into the car after you are buckled in. This should help in 3 ways. First, the added weight will help prevent liftoff. Second, the marshmallows will negate the lack of an airbag, and possible save your life. Lastly, if in fact you do crash and burn, at least the rescue personel will have a ready made tasty treat as they gaze upon the twisted wreckage. Good luck.....

New: Help me get this car running again!
Ever hear of Marvel Mystery Oil? Comes in a can with a screw top if I remember correctly. Get some type of spray bottle if possible and mist an ounce into each cylinder thru the plug hole. Let sit for a couple of days. You may want to remove the valve cover also and pour a bit of your favorite motor oil across the cam and inner workings, since they are probably pretty dry from storage. Leaving the plugs out while using the breaker bar is a good idea, as mentioned earlier. Try to keep any excess crud around the spark plug holes from falling into the cylinder. Good luck. BTW.....if you break something......I never left this message.
