Datsun Scarab Info
I have been collecting information for about 1 year now and can get most info first hand. My father and uncle were the original engine builders for Brian Scarab in the 1970's. There respective shops were back to back in Campbell, CA. Basic progression started out with Chevy 350 Crate motors, with a Warner T-10 Tranny, custom Drive line and Radiator connected to a T-Bird rear end. Some minor Suspension mods and custom motor mounts were fabricated as well. Later versions of the engine were more performance oriented and included up to a Twin Turbo 280z clocked at well over 170 mph in So. CA. The Scarab car was either custom built (the owner supplied the car to Brian for Mods) or a kit could be purchased for self-modification. Hope this helps. Good luck. -Andy Tencati

Datsun Scarab Info
From what I understand scarab was for the most part A mailorder kit. If I am wrong sorry this is just what I have been told by many people. If that is the case you wont find any kind of production #s.

pulled front fenders
Thank you for the note on the drain tube. I will be doing the same. The welding I was talking about was on the top seam and the lower frame rails. I dont think that the welding on the top seam would do much as far as making it stronger. But I cant help think that it would help them hold up over time. Better then the stock pinch welds. The caulking & tape parts. I went out and took photos of each side so I could look back and see what was done where. But thanks for the heads up on the truck camper tape. Now thats thinking. I was talking with my body guy today and I think we are going to sandblast the whole front just to be sure it's 100% clean then give it A coat of paint (stock black ). Thanks again.

pulled front fenders
I wish I had done this long ago. I had always thought of pulling my front fenders. I just never did this due to the fear of how hard it may be. I was wrong. Each fender took me about 15 minn. each. Wow am I A happy camper.:classic: . I do have A 90% rust free Z. I would say to anyone going deep into there Z PULL THEM. I found alot of sand and road grime in there that would have started some real rut problems. Most of this was stuck up near the frame work in the lower part of the front 1\4s just in front of the door. I did find the little surface rust dots here and there but nothing that I would worry about. I do plan on scuffing off the rust dots (size if pin heads yes surface not from the inside) and running A solid weld up the frame work. Then coat it. Is there anything I should be looking for that may not be seen very easy. I will post some photos soon.

Stainless exhaust systems for 240z
Jet coat \ cerama coat. Now I was looking @ the jet hot coat for headers on A small block chevy I have. Jet hot coat has A life time warranty covering discoloring & rust on headers they coat. I also saw that MSA offers there headers coated by them but for some reason they dont say A word about the warranty. Just thought you may want to look into this. Then have the stainless pipe bent up to run from there back.It would be cheaper then getting A header (that fit) made from stainless. P.S there coated inside & out

Honk if you drive a Z, or Where's the love?
Now as far as that gose yes I do. Or should say did when I had my 70 240. I can say that when I get my 73 on the road I will do the same. fast honk with A wave out the window. This is A brotherhood we are in and I have found the same with the corvettes. But I will say this ( dont hate me ) I dont do the same when its A zx. unless its early (round headlights) and very clean. Most ZX drivers round here are in them because it was and is A cheap driver not because of A love for the Z.

More activity=Less responses
I think keeping the forsale post's off the new post list would slow things down there. That would be A good thing. Like Zvoiture said "If somebody is looking for something or selling something, I know I just go straight to the for sale forum. " Thats true for me aswell.

25 Z cars and shop full of parts
I know about this all to well. I had the same crap pulled on me A few years ago on MN. One thing that pissed them off good was that I was grandfathered in where I was. That is to say that I was there doing this long before they changed the laws and or zoning. So there "NEW" laws didnt go after me. Now I was A cardealer there with A dealership so I am not sure about what you are dealing with. I get the feeling that you are talking about the # of cars sitting aroud your home. If thats the case I am now dealing with that now aswell. At this point I am lucky (in the eyes of the law here not mine ) that I dont have any (parts) cars @ this point. In my small town they are looking to change the laws asfar as to how many cars you may have that are not regesterd for the road. They are looking at passing A new law that states no one may have more then 1 car sitting outside there home without current tags. This is so wrong in so many ways it's not funny. I think there is only one thing that people can do in this case. Go to your city meetings. Stand up and speak up. You cant go in looking to prove there wrong.Thiswont work. These are people that you cant prove wrong (there never wrong in there eyes). So your best bet is to do what I am trying. That is go in talking about how there rite about this. This will get you open ears. Now is your chance to talk about how there laws will hurt some people that would like to stay within the laws. Talk about how there beef is with people that have real junk like 87 k-cars and ford LTD's sinking into the ground. Offer to meet part way some thing along the lines of A permit you could get for people that are working on classic cars. Yes this is alot of work and time. But there is no way you are going to prove them wrong(that junk cars sitting in yards wont drop prop. value.)Thats the what this is about anyway.$$$$$$$ The truth of it is there rite about what they are trying to do. That is keep the city you live in A clean and safe place for you and others to live. They just need to give respectful car people A option. Not outlaw what we do. This is just how I feel and what I am trying to do about it.

Some one left them with A girlfriend who was working @ A gas station. The guy said he didnt have the money for the gas he pumped poped out the tops on his ZX and asked her too hold them till he came back to pay for his gas. Three weeks later she called and asked if I wanted them. Please someone must need A set. (I know theres one ZX out there that needs tops. )

Digital Camera
I am doing the same thing as I go along with mine. Not only will this help prove that you have A bondo/fiberglass patchwork free car. It also will look damn good at shows too have A photo alb. of the stages you did your car in. God forbid anything should happen with your baby but if it dose. You will have your photos for looking back and getting A tear in your eye. Or for the lawsuit for how much your classic Z was worth before they ran that redlight.

how many z's do you have?
As with most classic cars out there is A true following of the Z car. With this love you can find that people will have more then one of there type of car. Some people get one done and want another just for A change. Others find that its cheaper for them too buy A parts/donner car. Another would be one for street one for track or his & hers. How many Z's do you have?

How much do you drive your Z?

polished rim ?'s
I thought the same about the drill & dremel. I WAS WRONG:finger: I found that I was going through polish real fast & its spendy. on top of that the dremel tools (buffing wheel) is poly so when it gets warm it melts:stupid: So then I go and buy A buffing wheel for my drill Dont waste the money less you buy A 5 gallon drum of polish. even on low speed it ends up more work for the clean up from the spray that comes off the wheel. You also still need to hand rub them after the buffing wheel anyway. As with most things shortcuts show. Take your time save your money and do them by hand you will be happy & proud.

polished rim ?'s
I use mothers. It takes time to get them real good. Set aside around 8 hours if you are going to do it by hand. Get A pack of rubber gloves or your fingers will be black for some time. take the wheel off the car or you wont do the job you want. Once you have them done the shine will last for a long time with just A fast wipe down @ the carwash.

new harness & fuse block
There is no such thing as A "Stupid question". At this point they dont offer A kit that is for the Datsun/ Nissan. Your best bet is call and tell them what you are doing and they will put A kit togather for your needs. If you have no clue as to what you are doing 1st find A shop that will do it for you. Then let them order the kit for you and install it. ("when I got my car it had a billion problems with it's electrical system, because the owner before me had tried to rewire it himself. As a result, the headlights were wired in series, and the horn didn't operate, as well as the blower motor, and defroster. I tried to fix it myself, but then realized that I would probably mix it all up worse, so I took it to a shop and had them do it. I am glad I did because when I called in to check on it, the mech. said "oh, wait, are you talking about the electrical nightmare". ") Let A pro do it the first time. much less money.
