  1. I feel ya!!! Look back and see my 73 project. Yes, I still have it and yes it's sitting as a shell in primer. A dream that will come true some day. But at the same time I wana drive one aswell. I had plans to bring the 73 back into the shop and start in on that again. Then without even looking I came across this 72. After some thought I knew this car could be on the street and safe in no time. I had the motor from the 73 sitting on the stand along with the centerforce clutch and boxs of spare go fast parts. So it's just getting it togather and lined out. After that it's pulling lights, trim, bumpers, int, and glass and she will be rolling into the paint booth. From there it's my driver. My major goal for now is being done for the Branson MO Z-fest this year. So that gives me a couple of months for paint. I understand building a show car and respect that 100%. But this car is for fun and putting miles on nothing more. Maybe some day I will take it down and do it from the ground up. But I have that sitting in my garage at this point. So...... The update for tonight...... I got the new motor @ the shop hanging on the lift in front of the car tonight. Mounted the flywheel/clutch and getting some other small things taken care of while it's outside the body. I am looking at dropping it in tomorrow afternoon after my new gasket set shows up. So no hot laps tonight. But I know she will be running this time tomorrow as long as the gaskets show up on time.

Run Forrest Run!!!!!! I agree with Carl. Sorry........
  3. OK, I think I have it guys. I am going with Green as stock color. Thank you on all the tips in looking for the color. I got the motor out and started cleaning away dirt when I found a rather large spot on the fire wall that looks as if it had a chem. spill on it and the paint was blistering. So after getting some of the red paint free I have found a coat of baby crap green AKA lime green as the base. As seen in the 1st photo. Plus I was lifting carpet and found the green on the transmission hump and yes also under the ashtray. Sorry about the PB links. I am posting this next few with them aswell. But, later tonight I will load them into the site and use them from here out. So far I can say that I have found 2 spots that are just getting at the paint for rust. No holes and nothing deep. One spot is on the Batt. tray with the other just under it. They are 2 blisters about the 3-4" across one above the other. The rest of the dark and brown color in the photos are dirt and grime.
  4. Congrats Greg!!!!!!!! Where are the photos??????
  5. I was waiting for the motor to be out before getting those photos. I will be taking them later today. I just didnt have my good cam. with me at the shop when the motor came out. I am not sure on the stock color on this car. I would have said Orange from under hood. But I noticed the hood was a take off. Then once you take a closer look you see red in the jams and on the floors and inner fenders. BUT, I have seen a spot on the firewall where some paint had come off and there was that baby crap green under the red. I am not sure anymore..... If this red is a repaint they did it with the car as a shell YEARS ago. I would say open market here the car would be around 3-4K . Everyone that has come by the shop and looked it over has asked if I gave the guy a kiss after F***ing him that hard so.......
  6. Here is the motor thats going in this one now. <img src="http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500/medium/1469jul27_19.jpg" />

  8. Well I now have the old motor sitting on the ground along side the car . Tomorrow night I will be cleaning up the engine bay and getting ready for installing the new motor on Tue. I am not gona count on it!!! But, I maybe doing a few hot laps around our parking lot tue. night!!!!!! :rambo:
  9. When his kid painted it he had pulled the trim work from the side and from the looks of it threw body filler on the holes and painted over it raw. Thats the deal on the sides. No that is not rust!!! it's bad paint and some nasty dirt
  10. Thank you all. I am getting ready now and will have her at the shop by lunch time today. Clear photos will be up soon.

Well, a fuel cell would cost me under 100 - none. We have a hot rod shop and do have a few just sitting around. For the cell it's more a matter of room and the loss of the spare tire. I thank you all on the clean and seal. I do know it can be done and odds are I could get it done myself. I just didnt know if anyone had made an ABS plastic repro tank or even a new metal one. I just have had so so luck with tank coatings. We have done a few motorcycle tanks and they do OK at best. IMO and what I have seen they stay good for a few years. On this one I would rather just replace it and forget about it if I could. Or has anyone found a tank from another newer car that just happens ta fit in the 240Z ? Again thanks for the help guys. I am just a fan of new parts on some things. IMO it keeps the headaches down.

OK, as some of you know I just today picked up another 240Z. Now i have been outa the loop here for the last few years now. But, dose anyone make a new aftermarket fuel tank? I know the headaches that go with these stock tanks and the crap that gets in the fuel from them. So rather then fight it I would rather replace it now. I have thought fuel cell. But I would much rather keep this one stock. Well, near stock anyway......
  13. I am going for the paint and motor swap. After that It's gona be my driver. My plans are getting the motor swap done asap and put a few miles on her. My goal is being on the road with it in about a week. Then sand her down and roll her into the paint booth for a fresh coat of stock orange and enjoy the ride once again. The blue paint isnt under hood or in the jams. So I should be able to fog in the jams easy with the stock color. This one really needs nothing but my motor, paint, and my mag wheels. I cant wait!!!!!! I will be looking for that book. TY
  14. Ok guys, I just got done buying another 72 240Z!!!!! This baby is CLEAN and one of the best rust free cars I have ever looked at. It came from TX. into MO. 3 years ago and has NO RUST!!! I have pulled the carpet all over, spare tire, frame rails you could eat off of!!! I open the door and found a perfect int. head liner, carpet, doors in tip top shape and BLACK. The dash dosnt even have a stress line and is 100% with NO cracks or damage. I am talking 100% there inside and out. even the damage free shift boot. The PO had sold the car to his kid who then thought it would be fun ta rattle can paint the car light blue 2 years ago. But it's all there and free of dents rust and damage of any kind even the bumpers are 100%. Only down fall on the car is a locked up motor. I guess its a good thing I have my new motor sitting on the stand. I will be posting more and better photos soon. I took these with my phone and it's a POS so.... I will be getting the car tomorrow and will post alot more pics once I have her safe @ the shop. I am telling you guys I have been looking at these cars for years now and have never come across a car this solid and complete in YEARS!!!! So, all n all I think it was worth the $1000. I gave for it THANK YOU CRAIGS LIST!!!!!!!!
  15. TY on the Buell. It was my baby for awhile. But I have had it with Harly and their lack of parts for these bikes. After I was picked off for my 100+ one wheel action I let her sit for the winter. Pull it out in the spring and the rear wheel bearings are bad. So, off ta Harley I go.... They look up the part numbers and say $438.00 up front please and they will be here in 3 months. So, needless ta say I gave them the single finger goodbye and bought my V-star the next week. Now the buell is being parted other then the motor n trans for my new hardtail chopper. For the paint on the pont. :embarrass: Please dont do as I did on the pont. for your Z!!!!! I was looking for a paint that would stand the test of time, high heat, sun fade, and that I could age easy. So after alittle testing I bought a bunch of bulk high heat BBQ grill paint and shot it with that. Then after a few hours of wetsanding for age spots it was time for the scallops. Dark red first then wet sanding almost all that off. I shot them again with a med red and more sanding. Then again with a near pink red and more sanding untill they looked like they had been on since the 50's sitting in the sun. I also did the same with all the lettering and numbers. Sanding it all till you could almost see the paint under them. Not easy work. But worth it!!! I spent a summer hitting car shows with her. She alway took home a prize within the top 5. Most where 2nd place two 1st place wins and at the Joplin MO. airfest show it took 4th over all. That was a show with over 1250 cars from twin turbo vipers ta early 1900 fords. So, yah I have some pride in that for starting with BBQ paint!!!!!
  16. LMAO, I know how that works. Keep up the hard work. Also I do have a few parts here n there. So being we are so close keep me in mind if your looking for anything.

As you can see I do enjoy the toys and dont mind alittle work. So, soon I will have her at the shop and moving forward. I think you can understand why I wasnt on here alot. I know this is a ZED site and my mind was in other things for a few. So, back into ZED HEAD mode I go!!!! We should have our Extreme Machines site up and running soon. Sorry....... Gota love hackers!!!!

  19. Hello my fellow ZED heads! I have been gone from here for awhile with the Z sitting in storage. I had found myself working on far to many projects. So, knowing how picky I am going ta be about my 240Z I just put it in storage and got a few other projects outa the way first. Here was one that took some time away from the Z. But I will say it was worth it! 1940 Pontiac This is how I found it tucked away in a barn. <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=011_11.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/011_11.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> First checking for rust with none found <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=014_14.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/014_14.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Alot of dirty work later <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=40pont004-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/40pont004-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> After I shot the black & installed a visor <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=40pont019.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/40pont019.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Now alittle red after dulling out the black <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=40pont012-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/40pont012-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Then move into the motor 1958 327 chevy with a few screws that I messed with & put on the bottle. <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=080_80.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/080_80.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Then the graphics went on. <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=063_63.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/063_63.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=069_69-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/069_69-1.jpg" border="0" alt="40"></a> <a href="http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/?action=view&current=092_92.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g53/carguyinok/092_92.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> More in next post
  20. We can make one for you and ship it. Let me know and I will get you a price. Here is a link for two of our shops systems. The corvette holds 3 world sound titles. http://4state-extrememachines.com/viewtopic.php?t=9 Our site is still young and we dont even have 5% of the projects and builds on the site yet. For the box it would be all handmade and will fit like a glove with the correct airspace for your speakers. Let me know if you want one made.
  21. I know this is your new baby. But, I would get her on a lift and look over things under the car. #1 being the frame rails from the firewall forward. If you are good there then move on. As EScanlon said new metal. It's the only real FIX for rust. If you want to do it yourself I say go for it. But, do it correct the first time. You will want to get yourself a few small airtools cut-off wheel & grinder for starters. Then a few vise-grip welding clamps. Even a little $150. sears 110 volt wirefeed welder can do the job your looking at. Just spend alittle cash on a good welding helmet with an auto dark lens & you will find welding can be easy. For what your wanting you only need tack welds & thats cake. Buy yourself some how to books or dvd's on autobody & rust repair and dive in & have fun. Remember this should be fun so HAVE FUN!!! Jeff
  22. Wow, It's an auto !!! Thats just gotta be an odd feeling in a 240. But nice buy.
  23. Carl will be missed, I may have been in and out of the site. But have spent what could be months or maybe even a year total with my butt logged into this site. Of that time I would almost always took the time to look over his postings. We didnt see eye to eye on everything but I feel thats one of the main reasons I will miss him so. Gods speed Carl & I know you have one of the first Zs that left this world and got up there.
