Just curious, I Have a 1974 260z, would this year model have a baffled fuel tank?

So the difference between, 205/40-17 & 205/50-17 Is in the profile (height) which changes 20.5mm and there is no increase at all in the width of the tyre Why not, 17"s look fully sick mate :squareeye

Compare, 205/40 - 17 size tyres to 205/50 - 17 size tyres, What is the difference in the actual tyre size??? Is the "50" just taller? or is it wider aswell? I've checked out tyre calculator sites but didnt understand what most of the measurements meant, so i though i'd ask you guys
  5. Got a few questions rattling around in my head and was wondering if anyone can help me out? This is what i've figured out, i think........... Can reduce/eliminate bumpsteer in a zed by repositioning the lower control mounting point on the crossmember, this effectively raises the roll-centre of the car, this is with the stock ride height of the Zed, Now you lower the car, say 2", you will also lower the roll centre of the car, DOES this mean that the above mentioned modification to remove/eliminate the bumpsteer will become ineffective?

Zedrally, Thanks man, but i live in Canberra  Hls30, How did you mount it? like what did you mount the actuator on? Love to see a pic mate,

Zedrally, Pull of your door trims and take a pic of your setup :classic:

Just couldnt see how you could mount it below the lock because when you wind down the window the glass would get in the way, The only possible place to mount it (that i could see) was parralle to the lock or above the lock, If you mount it parralle to the lock it would be impossible to get the actuator to push to lock in the correct directions to get it to open/close the lock, But mounting it above the lock, seems a bit tricky aswell, The lock starts of just above the horizontal, and then moves up above the horizontal to open, Then down past the horizontal to close, This means the lock effectively travels almost a complete semi-circle, So you would have to mount the Actuator quite a bit higher than the door lock to get the travel that you would require to get the lock to operate correctly, And with the glass all the way up, so you can have access to a mounting point (the door handle) this is not very much fun at all,

Has anyone managed to install central locking into a 1970-78 Zed? I had a good go over the weekend and just couldnt get the angel right, I positioned the Central Locking Actuator above the lock and mounted it off the door handle nuts, But the actuator was to far down and the angel is all wrong for the lock to open and close properly, if i locate it any highy it gets pushed out by the cotours of the door, Any suggestions...........anybody got pics of how they mounted their central locking??? pics of the brackets they used???

Thanks mate, would love to see pics of your setup, especially like to see the rear brake setup, This is what i've been thinking............please anyone tell me if what i say can/cant work, Just a theory............... Stock 1973-78 Aussie 260z rotors specs are.......... (271mm by 12.7mm) with an overall rotor thickness of 43.5mm, If you use big brake upgrade as sold by HoppersStoppers for the 260z they use the AU111 front brakes, its specs are (298mm by 28mm) with an overall thickness of 65mm, Now the thickness of this disc its a hell of alot more than that of the Zed - 21.5mm thicker, So what im thinking is they would use the 240z hub, which is 17mm (whereas the later 260z is supposed to be up to 25mm, 8mm thicker) than machine it up, but they cant take as much of as would be required to keep the original Zed wheel-offset, that is why it changes 8mm outwards............any opinions??????? BUT...........there is a set of falcon rotors, which has specs of (325mm by 32mm) with an overall thickness of 45.3mm, this rotor would need almost no mod's to fit onto the Zed, depending on what hub you use, All these ford rotors have a centre diameter of 71.5mm, the original Zed rotor has a centre diameter of 81mm, so just need to machine the rotors out and it would slot right into place, Of course you would need to also, 16" wheels (for the 298mm by 28mm rotors) & 17" wheels (for the 325mm by 32mm rotors), and re-locate the caliper mounting holes for the calipers, or use some sort of bracket, Ok..........how does this sound???????

Thanks for the reply my_mad_z, That sounds like a really good upgrade, probably wouldnt follow the same route as you with the front brakes, But the rear brakes seem sweet, and more than enought for what im planning, How did you go about making the bracket? Is it basically the same bracket as the early 80's Nissan Maxima rear caliper bracket??? What did you do about the hand-brake cable? Did you do any Master Cylinder upgrades?

Spoke to a local engineer in Canberra and he said, If i go with Rb25DE - might not need anything except the stock brakes working well (maybe the 4by4 Toyota truck caliper upgrade), If i go with Rb25DET (which i will) - would need to increase my braking power more than i'd be likely to get with the 4-spot Toyota Caliper alone, Just no 100% sure about which way to go, I've come across alot of different brake upgrades kits over the last few days and im not 100% certain on which way to go........... Anyone out there in AUS, have tried and tested brake upgrades for decent HP Zeds?

Just looking at the Challenger wheels and was wondering.............could i go to 15" by 8"'s on the rear of my Zed??? Apparently the big-brake upgrade from HoppersStoppers will fit underneath them - 300mm by 28mm rotors,

I just want to be sure that i get enough brakes for a future engine conversion, so i dont have to go back and do them again, Would the Z-ZX brake conversion (by doing both the front and rears) be able to stop a 190kw Rb25DET powered Z?

Messenger/Dan Baldwin/ 240sx, and other folk who are talking bout brakes in here :nervous: Have read through your coments on the Toyota 4by4 upgrade, Im curious - what if i put on massive front brakes, like those supplied by HoppersStoppers (300mm slotted rotors with Big 2-Piston Calipers) but kept the rear brakes on the Z stock, From what ive read, this seems like a fairly unwise idea - as the Z already has a biasis towards the front brakes, this kind of conversion would massively increase this biasis, thus leading to front-brake lockup........... Is this pretty much right? And if it is, what can i do to counter-act this? Put massive brakes on there rear?

240z, Checked out that site and the "Street" version seemed like an extremely simple & effective upgrade, Its just...........At some point in the future i wanna install an RB25DET, so if i upgrade now i want it to be suitable for the increase in HP that this kind of conversion would require, just go over-kill, There is his "Race" version option, but this requires re-locating the stock Caliper Mounts, But from what i've learned it appears if you wanna go bigger front disc's you havent got much alternative to either re-locating the caliper mounting points or using some kind of bracket??? But...........If i did go the HoppersStoppers route i think i would have the same problem this bloke had, with way to power front brakes and very oridinary rear brakes, So doing his rear brake conversion would make sense, Was just wondering though, and i couldnt tell when reading through his write-up, but when you do either his front or his rear brake conversion, does the wheel off-set change at all or does it remain stock???

Had some interesting conversions in regards to wheels choice, Was told that if i go wider wheels and the wheels aren't increasing in the same incriminats from both sides i would increase my scrub radius, Ie.......if i went to 7" wheels from 6" wheels, but the extra Inch in width was all on the outside of the wheel, instead of 0.5" on the inside and 0.5" on the outside this would lead to an increase in "scrub radius" For Example: Your driving down a bumpy road and hit a pot hole, the wheel will go in the direction of way the wheel was increased (to the outside of the wheel), So unless you can find wheels (or have them made) that will evenly distribute the extra wheel width, you will increase your scrub radius, But apparently this is fairly difficult to do in a Z because of the Spring seat on the strut's getting in the way, To get around this problem, need to change to a 2" diameter spring and change the spring seat, Thus allowing more room for wheel clearances

No worries mate, I used to drive a Valiant Charger with 11" vented rotors and 1-Spot cast calipers and that thing used to stop really well, My Z brakes feel terrible in comparison, just dont feel like ive got enough braking power - want it to be more like the Charger brakes, Spoke to HoppersStoppers and they do do a brake upgrade for the 1970-78 Z, They use, 300mm XR Falcon Rotors, 2-Piston PBR Alloy Ford Calipers, and comes with everything required to mount onto your Z, Does increase offset by 8mm though, $1200 for Smooth Rotors, $1300 for Slotted, $1350 for Cross-Drilled & Slotted, Would need to go to 15" to 16" rimms for clearances, Plus, Unless you have a 1" (15"/16") Master Cylinder in your Z already you will have to upgrade, They sell a Patrol 1" Master Cylinder brand new for $200 that is a straight bolt-up

Thanks for the replies guys, The kits available from ArizionaZcar look insane, But i live in Australia, its not that i can see any dramas fitting this stuff to a R/H drive Z, But from $750 US for the front brake upgrade kit = $950 AUS, then i gotta pay for 15% Custom's excise, 10% GST and then pay for shipping to Australia, Kinda get screwed - i cant remember how its calculated, but i probably wouldnt get out of it for under $1500AUS if im lucky by the time i've got the kit

Found lots of useful information about upgrading the front brakes on my Zed, But........was wondering - if you wanted to upgrade to 4-spot ALLOY calipers, is it possible to keep the original Caliper mountings, or do you have to go with a custom mounting? & Can anyone recommend someone who sells a good front brake kit??? Ive got a few different quotes from SWR, All Z Spares - but im not 100% sold on their kits yet...........
  21. Probably the only way to know for certain is get my hands on a set and do some measuring,

Spoke to a rep from Speedywheels and he was adament that the Sirocco's would not fit my car, He said i have an offet of about 10-15mm - and just about all modern wheels are 25mm and bigger, Said i was pretty much up sh#t creek  Except he did recommend, Performancewheels - they said that the "Tempest" & "Lotus" would fit on the Z, but when i spoke to a local distributor he thought i wouldnt have the clearance to install the centre wheel caps, This is getting annoying
