Hey! I have a Z!
Gotta say I like...

78 280Z - Just like that . . .
Coil. Points (3k threshold indicates those...). Possibly fuel blockage...but sudden death sounds electrical... Those are my uneducated guesses...

Wobble / Shimmy when braking
Likely not pad driven...it's something else. Were the shim's replaced when the brakes were re-assembled? Could be the source of your problem. Also, some play in the hubs could be a possible source of the issue.

I'm new... Driving problems etc HELP!
Easiest possible solution on fuel starvation. Change your fuel filter (dirt cheap)...if it runs after that, you likely have a gunked up fuel tank that needs to be cleaned out...

what kind of console is this?
It says partial restore... And that's not sound deadening material...I believe it's carpet...just looks like a homemade custom carpet job and a sliced console... And a butt ugly shifter...

Rb26 240z stolen in lakewood ca
Awesome... Details from his post on Hybridz.org on the state of the car... Broke the center console in half for some reason, tore out the whole center dash panel (apparently I did a pretty good job securing the stereo deck), both seats seem to be stuck in full recline and I couldn't even get the driver seat to lock in place so it was interesting driving home (lever is broken off like arnold schwarzenegger had been there). It didn't run very well (kept wanting to die and then continued to hunt for idle nonstop), I think they first ripped out some ecu wires thinking it was the alarm. Really hard to shift, couldn't even get into reverse (I guess they aren't too familiar with a stick). This is probably the strangest part, they stole my shifter knob. Didn't take the autometer gauges, but that homemade pool ball shifter knob I got for 2 bucks on ebay and it probably doesn't even fit any other vehicle, that they just had to have. They also ripped out the tail light wiring while getting at the speakers, there's just a mess of wires everywhere. The hazards relay clicks like it is on steroids for some reason. I'm not sure how they got in but the first thing was obviously to pop the hood and yank the wire going to the horn. I really need to get it locked down this time. Anyway the allstate inspector is coming tomorrow afternoon to asses the damage, my plan covers repairs at a shop of my choosing but I don't know if there's a limit to the amount. If there is, I think a trans rebuild would probably take the cake.

would a 280zx be a good first car?
Hate to say it...unless you grew up wrenching...you're better off with a Honda (think CRX...). Check insurance rates and be honest with yourself...

Nissan Sentra S ER spec V
Clearly a product of Nissan Canada (based on the website link at the end). Neat video...I suspect good R/C work and better editing...

Still No Love at Barrett-Jackson
True...but still both of those traded at a pretty nice premium based on their mod's...the 280Z did not (although the mods, it should be noted, we much less significant...).

Custom gauge panel
Touché...I took out my 280Z for a shakedown run this afternoon...no radio in it...sweet music indeed...

New Member, Introducing myself
Wow, for someone who isn't that familiar about S30's, you're one of the few that is in the ballpark budget wise. Check out the how to buy an S30 section on zhome.org. It a good primer on what to look for in these cars. Being in Fla., you'll have plenty of options. Wait for a rust free starting point. The cost of fixing rust dramatically exceeds the cost of buying a good body to begin with. After that the world is your oyster...stock (ish) S30's are very cheap to maintain, easy to work on, great to drive and definitely head turners...as to upgrades, the sky is the limit budget-wise, but you can define your own destiny there. Of your options, definitely go with the Z. Much simpler vehicle to set-up / work on and, IMHO, stands out significately more. I'm looking forward to updates as you proceed. Welcome aboard.

Still No Love at Barrett-Jackson
Yeah and a heavily modified (for SEMA) Z32 went in the 30's as well (plenty of bucks for that)....

Could be as easy as bad battery connector wires...try bypassing them as a start.

What are the main difference between the 240z, 260z & 280z?
Largely yes. Fenders, hoods, and hatches although not all exactly the same are perfectly interchangeable. Doors are not. Bumpers are different (got much larger and rubbery starting on late year 260Z's) but can be retro-fitted with a little work. 5 Speed showed up as an option on the 280Z but I don't believe was standard during any model year. Read Zhome.com. It's all there.

86 300z tranny to 240z 1973?
No point. The cost/effort is nowhere close to any value of the newer transmission... Where are you in Canada?

Rb26 240z stolen in lakewood ca
Wow, that sucks...good luck on a quick recovery...
-
240Z good for tall people?
I'm 6'2"-6'3" but all torso (normal guy size legs) and 265 lbs...the list of cars i don't fit in is long...I fit fine in the S30's and the Z31 is positively spacious... Happy hunting...you should be fine... Nigel, congrats on your first post...see you at the swap meet...

Wow...that would be worse than my E-bay purchase, if only for the price (now just under $13k). Great photos....
